Office Buidings
This office building is a prime example of how using hollow core slabs can accelerate the building process.
Bearing on structural steel beams, two levels of slabs were installed simultaneously. It also demonstrates
the long spans achievable with hollow core slabs, perfect for an open plan office area.
Plazas & Malls
Underground Parking
This mall utilized the solid and attractive construction possible using precast beams, columns and hollow core as a
complete structural system for its underground parking.
Hotels
Hotels take advantage of the two-hour fire rating achieved by Coreslab’s complete product line as well as the
Sound Transmission Class rating of 50 to minimize the noise between floors.
Residential
Single Family Homes
As in this single family home, hollow core slabs lend themselves well to residential construction eliminating squeaky wood floors and the
need for load-bearing intermediate walls. Concrete was chosen for the house for its durability, fire resistance and its energy efficiency.
The precast floors were put to good use by adding a poured concrete topping with radiant in-floor heating throughout the entire house,
including the garage and basement. An advantage of using hollow core slabs for the floor system is being able to leave the slabs exposed
and simply painted for a finished look.
Student Residences
Safe &Sound
The use of recycled materials, reuse of steel forms and elimination of
construction waste all contribute to the environmental friendliness of
Coreslab’s precast products. This is evidenced through our contribution to
the West Village Student Residence in Hamilton which achieved the LEED
Platinum rating, the first residential high-rise in Canada to do so.
Condominiums
Long Term Care Facilities
Coreslab was an integral part in
attaining the LEED Silver rating for
this university building holding a
campus store, class rooms and lab
space. The hollow core floor slabs
were used as a thermal mass to store
heat and cold, reducing the overall
size requirement of the heating and
air conditioning systems. The hollow
cores were used for the air supply in
the ventilating system.

Stadiums
All of the three hundred and five pieces of precast were manufactured prior to installation which took only six weeks to
complete (at the McMaster University Ronald V. Joyce Stadium in Hamilton). Coreslab provided the bleacher slabs, structural
vomitory walls and guard walls for the 5,000 seat stadium project. The underside of the bleacher slabs provides an attractive
exposed surface and the top surface had a broom finish and is sloped to allow water to drain off the front end.
Food processing plants present

They required a zero-maintenance,
highly durable structural system
that would not corrode due to the
high levels of humidity it would
have to withstand. Precast provides
