ZOUKOUT 2011
HAPPENINGS
PREVIOUSLY...
ZOUKOUT 2011
The answer to all your dance prayers, ZoukOut’s been running Siloso
Beach for 11 long years and there’s no way it’s slowing down for anyone.
Last year’s edition promised us another ultimate dance experience, and
delivered with a line-up jam-packed with electronic greats and 14 hours’
worth of good vibrations. However you chose to get your groove on –
alongside the friendly house of Avicii, the dirty Dutch that is Chuckie,
the synth-pop magic of Ladytron or the unbeatable trance of Armin van
Buuren – there was no way you could be standing still from sundown to
sunrise.
And of course, SingTel was there to share in the festivities! Long a
dedicated supporter of music and dance, SingTel’s presence at ZoukOut
and VIP tents have become the stuff of legend, whether it’s 2008’s Yacht
concept or 2009’s LookOut lighthouse. For ZoukOut 2011, SingTel lived
up to that rep by transplanting a huge teepee onto the beach, giving
revellers two whole levels from which to take in the festival. Free flow was
definitely on hand, as were goodies like lanyards, friendship bands and
lighted rings so that none of us had to go naked. You bet that teepee
housed quite the party atmosphere, but only because SingTel knows
exactly how to bring it.

MNET ASIAN MUSIC
AWARDS 2011
Everyone loves them a bit of K-pop and that
love is none more plainly found than at the
MNet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). South
Korea’s biggest music award show took
place in the Singapore Indoor Stadium last
November (only the second time MAMA
has happened outside of his homeland in
its 12-year run), and duly drew in Korea’s
top pop stars, actors and personalities,
on top of a crowd that numbered in the
thousands. The evening saw hot faves like
Super Junior, 2NE1, SNSD (Girl’s Generation)
and Kim Hyun Joong walk off with the
trophies, while the likes Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg
and HyunA put on some unparalleled
performances. You can’t argue with a night
like that!

GIRLS’ GENERATION TOUR SINGAPORE

There’s no denying that Girl’s Generation (aka SNSD) is overwhelmingly loved in Singapore, when the
nine-girl group played not just one show at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, but two sold-out affairs. And
in living up to its name as one of Korea’s finest pop acts, Girl’s Generation’s first solo Singapore shows
were a visual and sonic treat. For three hours on each night, the girls entertained with choreographed
dance moves and renditions of their greatest hits such as “Gee”, “Run Devil Run” and “Hoot”, and left
behind a sweaty and screaming mass of fans. More, please!

COMING UP...
FOO FIGHTERS LIVE IN SINGAPORE
2 MARCH, THE PADANG
When it comes to rock, it don’t get bigger than Foo Fighters. For the better
part of 16 years, Dave Grohl & co have ruled the alternative airwaves with
some of the surest fire hits like “Everlong”, “Times Like These”, “Learn To Fly” and
“All My Life”, landing Grammy Awards and certified gold albums galore. And
all that good stuff is about to come our way when the Foo Fighters play their
first Singapore show on the Padang. This promises to be the biggest singleact gig happening on our shores this year (the venue could pack a horde
numbering 50,000), while the band itself pretty much guaranteeing only the
most heroic and epic of rock sounds. Let’s go big!
Tickets costs $138 each and are available from all authorised SISTIC agents.
LANEWAY FESTIVAL 2012
12 FEBRUARY, FORT CANNING PARK
Already with one successful (and very wet!) local outing
under its belt, Laneway Festival will be returning to Fort
Canning Park to service all your indie needs. This year’s
line-up will present the finest indie acts your money can
buy, assembling established names such as Laura Marling,
The Horrors, M83 and Feist, as well as young talents like
Girls, Cults, Twin Shadow, Anna Calvi and Austra. It’s one of
the most discerning and forward-thinking bills we’ve seen
in a while and the kind of experience that all you die-hards
have been praying diligently for. See you there!
Tickets cost $135 (advanced) and $150 (at the door), and
can be bought at all authorised SISTIC agents.
DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE
LIVE IN SINGAPORE
7 MARCH, FORT CANNING PARK
They’re back! One of indie rock’s most beloved groups, Death Cab
For Cutie has been in business for up to 15 years, pushing the kind of
lush and melancholic melodies that have filled seven whole albums
and soundtracked more than their share of heartbreak. The Seattle
quartet’s most recent Code And Keys hit another high note with the
twee community (and the Grammy judging panel), and unveiled a
band still keen on sonic exploration and experimentation. You’ll get to
sample all of that in its live glory when Ben Gibbard and gang stop by
our Fort Canning green with new tunes (“You Are a Tourist”), old hits
(“We Laugh Indoors”, “Crooked Teeth”) and everything else that falls
sweetly on your ears.
Tickets cost $98 (standard) and $110 (at the door), and are available
at all SISTIC outlets.
