September 17 and 18, 2016 InPDUM is hosting our Historical 25th Convention, Self
Determination: “The Task at Hand” It is designed to bring strategic organization to the African
community where we can address the crisis of the African Nation that will assume for itself the
responsibility of bringing African people into political life while attacking the myriad of deep and
profound political, social and economic issues with which African people have to confront daily.
In addition to the “African working class issues” that most people are familiar with – childcare,
unemployment and underemployment, social immobility and poverty – InPDUM’s 25th convention
will also embrace a host of issues that the African communities are burdened with as part of an
oppressed people.
One issue that we have been faced with is the fact that many Africans families have been ripped
apart. Childrens fathers cannot be present because of state-imposed regulations that deny benefits
to women and children if fathers, who are most likely unemployed, are in the house.
This includes the massive incarceration of African men and women. An incarceration that robs
African families of husbands, daughters, mothers, lovers and sons. The convention will have to also
deal with the growing numbers of Africans being pushed into the school to prison pipeline. There is
the issue that is only now beginning to achieve public attention, mainly the police killings of our
sons, husbands, mothers, and children.
