Lebanon Valley Dragway National Open

omp, Super Stock, Stock, Super
Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street
racers competed on a beautiful
spring Sunday at Lebanon Valley Dragway
at the Diamond RV National Open, May 24, the third race in the four-race series in
the Northeast Division. With more than
300 participants, the big crowd was
treated to quite a variety of race vehicles.
The second edition of the Diamond
RV Center Lebanon Valley National
Open not only attracted more participants, but also more spectators, who
were treated to fantastic racing. The festivities kicked off with time trials and
qualifying Saturday under sunny skies
and in cool temperatures. Numerous
records were set, and the teardown barn
was busy until late into the evening. John
Armstrong reclaimed the SS/BA record
with a stellar 8.98 after receiving additional horsepower in the not-too-distant
past. In Stock, the record holders were
Tom Baird, Dean Cook III, Johnny
Williams, Cecil Frazier, Adam Weisburg,
Howie Smith, and Keith Sansone.
Atco runner-up Matt Schurman defeated Steve Feller in the Lebanon Valley Super Street final round.
The show action included the wheelstanders of Danny O’Day and Richard
Hutchins. Also on hand were several
Pro Modified drivers: Ron Iannotti and
his Corvette, Terry Hall in his ’36 coupe,
Jim Kane and his ’69 Camaro, Patrick
Doherty and Steve Salvadore in their
’57 Chevys, Kasey Janzen in his ’93
Lumina, Sal Pasarelli in his ’68 Nova,
Fred Jacobs in his ’94 LeBaron, Carl
Bullock and Sam Madej in their ’41
Willys, and Paul Athey in his ’69 Dart.
The show also featured the Top Fuel
Harley of Jim Doyle, the Super Mario jet
Funny Car, Ken Hall driving the Hanna
Motorsports jet Funny Car, and stunt
bikes from 3 twenty 2 performing during
downtime.
At 10:30 a.m., the National Open
racing action began with Super Street
and continued throughout the day. In
Comp, Allyn Armstrong took the top
honor by defeating Charlie Yannetti in an
