LANVIN FALL 2016
Lanvin's Fall 2016 collection was steeped
in 80s glam, powerhouse connotations.
The design team behind the collection did
their best to emulate former designer Alber
Elbaz's adept craftsmanship but fell flat with
several ill fitting garments making their way
onto the runway.
Some key features of Lanvin's DNA remained
apparent with sensual satins and rich
brocades very much in attendance, with a
dash of masculinity thrown into the mix.
The show opened with a boxy, oversized,
quilted tuxedo jacket in the shade of ice silver.
A matching, sculptural, midi skirt featured
undulating flounces bouncing with every
stride the model made on the runway. A court
shoe cross bootie, let's say 'courtie' was the
footwear of choice with details including a
pointed toe and a diamond cut-out across the
breadth of the foot.
A structured brocade, intarsia, plunging,
asymmetrical peplum blouse featured
bouffant sleeves and deep décolletage.
Languid, peach velvet trousers accompanied
the blouse. Collarbone grazing, crystal drop,
chandelier earrings were statement making to
say the least.
A metal, restrictive choker in burnished gold
oozed with tribal qualities.
An ostentatious, plush fox fur coat starred
in sea foam green tinged with butterscotch
accents. A sumptuously soft vanilla leather
belt attenuated the waist and cascaded to
under the knee cap. Almond toe, lace up,
leather boots were a covetable addition. A
muted turquoise leather satchel concluded
the ensemble which brimmed with
consummate class.
Flash trash dominated on a high shine,
metallic gold, trench coat. A patent, oyster,
waist cincher featured an Art Deco inspired
gold strip centrepiece. A scalloped, crystal
encrusted choker and thread drop earrings
accessorised the deluxe number.
An eveningwear dress evoking old Hollywood
glam comprised of a mauve rose collage
Friday, April 29, 2016
bodice consisting of satin, lace and brocade
pieces which worked effortlessly when teamed
to a diaphanous, crystal pleat, full lavender
skirt. A luxurious fudge and mint flecked stole
graced one shoulder falling elegantly to the
elbow.
Dark romance played a role on a cropped navy
and muted sage, brocade bolero jacket. A
delicate, ebony, transparent, high neck, lace,
long sleeve blouse screamed of femininity. A
midnight, intarsia brocade fish tail midi skirt
exuded upper crust elegance. A sapphire fur
stole concluded the look.
Kaitlin Aas modelled a charming satin mini
dress. Details included black and silver lace
bishop sleeves conjuring gothic glam, high neck
scalloped bib and a dark slate blue liquid mini
skirt. A pistachio lace panel trailed from above
the knee to the mid calf offering a modest
silhouette for cocktail hour.
Given Lanvin's hefty price tag the current
design team will need to up the ante in
precision tailoring to continue accommodating
for the affluent, fashion savvy woman.

Cash registers set to ring for Mother's Day
Retail stores are preparing for an influx of
shoppers over the next week, as Aussies hunt
for the perfect gift to give to mum this Mother’s
Day, May 8, according to the Australian
Retailers Association (ARA).
The ARA estimates Australians will spend around
$2 billion in celebration of Mother’s Day this year.
Of this, flowers will account for $200 million,
while dining out will account for the lion’s share
at more than $300 million.
Russell Zimmerman, ARA Executive Director,
said Mother’s Day is one of Australia’s biggest
spending occasions, second only to Christmas.
“Mother’s Day has always been a big gift giving
opportunity, with most Aussies touched by the
day in some way, whether it be their own mother,
the mother of their children, or grandmother,”
said Mr Zimmerman.
“As a result, some retail categories are likely to
see a much-needed lift in sales as mums around
Australia are spoiled by their families.”
Categories expected to pick up extra sales in
the lead up to Mother’s Day include florists,
jewellery, newsagents (cards and wrapping),
fashion stores, gift cards, experiences such
as massages and spas, chocolates and
confectionery, as well as restaurants
and cafes.
“Mother’s Day lunches are hugely popular in
Australia, with restaurants and cafes often
booked out well in advance, while celebrating
with the traditional Sunday roast at home will
also lead to an increase in grocery purchases
associated with home entertaining,” said Mr
Zimmerman.
“With an election looming and consumer
confidence traditionally declining in the lead up
to elections, retailers will be using Mother’s Day
as an opportunity to increase sales by offering
tailored gifts, packages, or products that may
have appeal to mums.”

WEEKLY HOROSCOPE
ARIES Money issues could reach breaking
point. Think about why you’re wasting so much
money. Are you trying to buy love or affection? Or
hoping to keep up with someone else’s spending?
Stop it; you know better than this.
LIBRA Caught in a power struggle? Use
diplomacy and kindness to disarm your opponent.
Doing the right thing matters this week and will
eventually benefit you, even if initially it appears to
help someone else more.
TAURUS You’re defining your worth by how
loved you think you are, or by how much money you
have. Your task this week is to instead realize your
true worth, which comes from within yourself.
SCORPIO Loving Venus boosts your
relationship but watch out for jealousy and
possessiveness on your part. If you don’t trust your
partner, why are you together? If you do trust them,
let them fly free.
GEMINI A dreamy, imaginative vibe makes it
hard for you to get much done, and your attention to
detail could use some work. However, you’re storing
up good ideas for the future, even if you can’t act on
them yet.
CANCER Friendships are important and a
good friend rides to your rescue as someone hurts
your feelings. Let those who care for you and nurture
you know exactly how much they mean to you. Don’t
hide your affection.
LEO Charm is helpful at work and you can
certainly turns heads now in your career. Be careful,
however, not to over-promise on what you cannot
realistically deliver. Match your ideas to your current
skill level for best results.
VIRGO Get out of the house or office as much
as you can. Travel inspires you and will help you to get
out of a mental or emotional rut this week. You don’t
have to go far; there are plenty of places locally which
will do the trick.
CAT OF THE WEEK
Name: Misty
Age: 4 Years
Breed: Grey and White DSH
Marvellous Misty can be shy around
strangers but once she has had a chance to
get to know you, she will shower you with
love and affection. She will need some time
to adjust to new surroundings but it won’t
be long before she is seeking out some
chin scratches and making herself at home.
SAGITTARIUS Watch your diet and
exercise routine this week. It’s easy to either forget
it altogether or to go to the other extreme and push
yourself too hard. Moderation in all things will help
you to stick to your health goals.
CAPRICORN Joy comes from the simplest
of things, and especially from your relationships with
children and with pets and animals. You’re sensing
what really matters this week and you’re inspired to
less time worrying and more time giving.
AQUARIUS
Every family has its difficulties;
despite yours, this is a very loving week within the
home and you’ll feel a true sense of togetherness
with your loved ones. Use this energy to bring a
difficult relative back on board.
PISCES If you’re stuck in a job which doesn’t
challenge you, learn something new or train in a new
skill. Research something interesting in your spare
time - keep your brain ticking.
Misty has a gentle nature so she is looking
for a home with low levels of activity where
she can enjoy some peace and quiet. Her
ideal forever home will be indoors only to
keep her pretty pink nose safe from the sun.
Misty is available to adopt from the Cat
Protection Society for $150 plus a lifetime
registration fee ($26 or $21 for pension
card holders).
She has been desexed, microchipped and
vaccinated. Our Adoption Centre at 103
Enmore Road, Newtown is open Monday
to Friday from 11am to 2.30pm, Saturdays
from 10am to 3.30pm, Sundays 10am to
2.30pm as well as Thursday evenings from
4.30 to 6.30pm and Friday afternoons from
3.30 to 5pm. Please call us on 9557 4818 if
you’d like more information about Misty or

for good homes, or visit our website www.

New aircraft and amenities at
Cathay Pacific
Prior to delivery of Cathay Pacific’s first
A350-900, the new plane recently took
to the skies over Toulouse, France to
complete its maiden flight. The six hour
test flight was conducted by an Airbus
flight test team and was declared a
success. This completion of the test flight
marks a significant step towards taking
delivery of the aircraft in late May 2016.
The new A350 aircraft offer the latest
technologies and features, which
should provide passengers with a more
comfortable journey. A more natural
pressure level will allow more humidity,
better temperature and most importantly,
better oxygen and less jet lag and swelling,
should prove to be very popular with
travellers.
The aircraft will have the remainder of its
interiors installed, including new Business
Class seats.
When it joins the fleet, Cathy Pacific’s
maiden A350 aircraft will initially fly to six
regional destinations before launching to
long-haul destinations, including London
Gatwick, in September 2016.
Amenity kits featuring a new design,
inspired by passenger feedback, have been
introduced for Cathay Pacific’s Business
Class passengers on long haul flights. The
new kit is an update of the 2015 kit created
by Seventy Eight Percent, a Hong Kong
based design company that creates high
quality bags for globetrotting professionals.
The new wash bag is now box shaped and
features a zipper, which should fit passenger
needs and expectations for reusability.
The contents have also been updated, with
mouthwash added back to the kit,
after passenger feedback said that it was an
essential item. Along with mouthwash, the
Business Class amenity kits feature Jurlique
Natural Lip Care Balm, Jurlique Balancing Day
Care Cream, Jurlique Citrus Hand Cream,
anti-skid socks, eyeshade, toothbrush,
and toothpaste.
Cathay Dragon, formed when Cathay Pacific
Group aligned their two brands, Cathay Pacific
and Dragonair, debuted their new livery on 5
April 2016 when the first aircraft displaying this
new livery took flight.

MAYOR'S desk
Mayor of
Randwick
Noel D'Souza
On Thursday 14 April almost 400 staff
from Randwick and Waverley Council met
for the first time to kick-start the planning
for a new eastern suburbs council.
The staff gave up most of their time to be
part of 70 Project Action Teams looking
at every council function. From road
maintenance, rubbish and recycling, and
planning and development to libraries,
childcare, parking and finance.
While this is no easy and professional
approach taken by Randwick and Waverley
staff provides me with great assurance and
I can honestly say that we are well on
our way.
Our work doesn't stop here, we're also
running a public naming competition for
the new council. Residents have until 5pm
Sunday 22 May to suggest a name at www.

ANZAC DAY CEREMONY
On Monday we commemorated Anzac Day
with a ceremony at Steyne Park in Double
Bay. I was represented by Deputy Mayor
Susan Wynne, who was joined by Member
for Vaucluse Gabrielle Upton. The event
was well attended which shows the Anzac
spirit is still alive today. We were honoured
to host this event and join our Woollahra
community in paying tribute to those men
and women who have made the ultimate
sacrifice for their country, its values and
freedoms. Lest we forget.
DOUBLE BAY LIBRARY ON
THE MOVE
From Monday 2 May, the current Double
Bay Library in Blackburn Gardens will be
closed. This is to enable our staff to move
the library into our exciting new home at
Kiaora Place in the heart of Double Bay.
While we wait for the finishing touches
to be put on the new library, we’ll be
operating a pop-up library service in the
foyer of the new building. The pop-up will
be available from Tuesday 3 May, 10am1pm, 7 days a week.
We are very excited for the new Double Bay
Library to open in just a few weeks’ time –
stay tuned for more details coming soon. For
more information visit: www.woollahra.nsw.

NEW CYCLING AND
WALKING PATH
Last week the Member for Vaucluse,
Gabrielle Upton announced funding for a
new cycling and walking path in Double Bay.
The project will include the construction of
kerb ramps and intersection improvements
at the New South Head Road/Victoria
Road intersection – co-funded by the NSW
Government and Woollahra Council.
The New South Head/Victoria Road
intersection is a busy location for cyclists
and pedestrians and the upgrade will
improve safety and be welcome news for
our residents and visitors.
THE ‘LITTLE THINGS’ ART
COMPETITION
As part of the 2016 Woollahra Artist in
Residence Program, local artist Marnie
Ross is coordinating the ‘Little Things’ art
prize. The competition encourages local
artists to submit creative expressions of the
‘Little Things’ that make them happy or feel
grateful. Entry is open to all ages and artists
can express this creatively in a small format
(8 x 10 inches), in painting, illustration,
printmaking, photography, ceramics and
collage. To register and view the terms &
conditions visit www.marnierossartist.com.
NSW GOVERNMENT GRANTS
TO HELP PRESERVE
MILITARY HISTORY
I encourage the community to apply
for individual grants up to $60,000 to
preserve important pieces of local military
history and put them back on display.
$1 million funding package is available to
upgrade or install war memorial plaques
and refurbish community halls used by
veterans groups. The NSW Government is
committed to conserving and improving
important military history that will ensure
the Anzac legacy live. We anticipate that
local RSL sub-branches, community groups
and councils will apply for projects to
ensure Australia’s servicemen and women
continue to be remembered.
Examples of how the grants could be used
include plaques at places of historical
significance in the state’s wartime efforts,
or restoration and display of honour roles
with the names of men and women who
fought and died in war.
I know there’s so much important military
history in our suburbs and towns that has
fallen into disrepair or been targeted by
vandals and is in danger of being lost.
The NSW Government is committed to
preserving and displaying our military
history, so that the bravery and sacrifice
shown by so many in the past can been
seen and reflected upon by generations
to come.’’
The allocation of $1 million is from
uncollected gaming prize money and will
be administered by Liquor & Gaming NSW
in consultation with the NSW Branch of the
RSL of Australia and the Office of Veterans
Affairs.
It is anticipated applications will open in
May and an independent panel will assess
the projects and make recommendations
to Government.

Following the recent refurbishment of the

New eastern suburbs council
Almost 400 staff from Waverley and Randwick
Council met for the first time to start the planning work for a new eastern suburbs council.
The staff all volunteered to be part of 70
Project Action Teams looking at every council
function including road maintenance, libraries, childcare, rubbish and recycling, parking,
finance, planning and development. The teams
have been tasked with analysing the current
practices of the councils and recommending a
way forward for the new organisation.
The new council would cover the existing Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra Council areas
combining 1,500 staff and taking in 274,000
residents across Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
The new organisation will be the third largest
council in Sydney with an annual income of approximately $369m.
The merger is just one of 35 Council Merger
Proposals released by the NSW Government
late last year and is expected to come into effect in mid 2016.
Randwick Mayor Noel D’Souza said the two
councils were leading by example.
“Creating a new organisation as complex as a
local council is no easy task, but with the enthusiasm and professional approach taken by our
staff we are well on our way,” Mayor
D’Souza said.
“I sense a genuine excitement in our staff about
the possibilities of providing even better ser-
vices and facilities for our residents
and ratepayers.
“I’d like to thank all staff involved in the process
– an organisation is only as good as its people
and I’m proud of our great staff who serve our
community every day,” Mayor D’Souza said.
Waverley Mayor Sally Betts said the councils
were conscious of the need to provide
continuation of services for residents.
“It is critical if the government decides the
amalgamation of our three councils will go
ahead that we are able to guarantee to all our
residents that they will continue to receive the
services they already enjoy from day one of
the new council without any disruption. It is
fantastic that our staff are working to ensure
our services can be merged and improved in a
smooth and transparent way.
“Our aim is to l deliver a smooth transition and
continue our high-performing and customerfocused culture of putting residents first.
“Hopefully in the near future Woollahra staff
will be joining the Waverley and Randwick
teams.
In the meantime, we will ensure that quality
services continue to be delivered to Woollahra
residents as well.” Mayor Betts said.
The Project Action Teams will continue to meet
regularly over the coming weeks to plan for
the merge.

Botany Council amalgamation review
Botany Council received a letter last week from
Mr Rod Nockles. Mr Nockles wrote to advise
that he would undertake a full review of the
City of Botany Bay’s proposal for an amalgamation with part of Randwick Council and part of
the City of Sydney.
Botany Council has been advised that the
Minister for Local Government referred their
proposal to the Acting Chief Executive Officer of
the Office of Local Government for examination
and report. The Acting Chief Executive Officer,
in turn, delegated the role of examining and
reporting on the proposal to Mr Nockles.
It is now up to Botany Council and as a community to make the case for why this proposal
represents a better outcome for our community,
and for good governance.
Over the last three years of this process, the
Mayor, and fellow Councillors and have been
overwhelmed by the demonstration of support
from the local community. The Community Poll
held in February demonstrates that this is an
issue which Botany residents and community
members feel strongly about.
There will also be a public hearing for this
proposal. Mr Nockles has advised he will be in
contact to confirm the date, time and location
for this proposal.
The closing date for submissions for the new
review will be 5pm on Sunday 12 June 2016.
I look forward in the Acting Chief Executive Officer taking the same approach to have examined
the proposal from Kogarah City Council.
The proposal from Kogarah that it merges
with Rockdale City Council and Hurstville
City Council to form a St George Regional
Council and without the airport is also
worthy of consideration. It would mean
that this whole area can be attended to by way of
genuine structural reform.

Unrivalled lifestyle a vertical village
It’s not just the location that makes this
new residential development stand out
from the rest; stunning architecture,
impeccable finishes and expansive
facilities leave V by Crown Group
streets ahead.
The landmark 29-storey tower known as
Parramatta’s ‘Vertical Village’ includes
a private pool, gym, sauna, conference
facilities, music room, theatrette, library
and rooftop sky bar; plus a boutique hotel
and ground level retail precinct.
The finely-tuned detail and innovative
design has grabbed the attention of
buyers from outside the area as a new
level of buyer looks to Parramatta.
This new demand is driven by a
skyrocketing increase in the number
of executive-level professionals in the
local workforce looking to move to the
area as dozens of major Australian and
International organizations announce new
offices and additional resources
in Parramatta.
THE HIGH LIFE
Sitting atop the 29-storey tower, a Sky
Bar will offer spectacular views of the
Blue Mountains, Sydney CBD and Sydney
Harbour Bridge.
Set to open in summer 2016/17, the
Sky Bar features an expansive 275sqm
internal bar area, direct lift access, double
height ceilings and a 90 sqm outdoor
terrace with sweeping 270 degree views.
A stunning glass wall forming a unique
backdrop behind the bar service area
will take advantage of the bar’s sky high
position.
Crown Group Director of Sales and
Marketing Roy Marcellus said the new Sky
Bar at V by Crown Group would have the
best views in Parramatta.
“The sky bar will be a great place to
unwind and enjoy the view; offering
luxury style in a relaxed atmosphere,” Mr
Marcellus said.
“The 270-degree views from the terrace
have to be seen to be believed,” he
added.
PENTHOUSE LIVING
Positioned on the two highest levels
of the residential tower, V by Crown
Group’s penthouses will occupy some of
the tower’s most exclusive positions in
Western Sydney.
Each penthouse is set over two floors
and includes three bedrooms, a study,
two bathrooms, a guest powder room,
open-plan kitchen, indoor-outdoor living
area, two car spaces and a large balcony;
offering views of Parramatta’s Heritage
parklands, Sydney’s CBD and Sydney
Harbour Bridge.
Set to be completed early next year, the

lighting, heated towel rails, ducted airconditioning and an exclusive penthouse
colour scheme.
A LEAGUE OF ITS OWN
V by Crown Group is currently the only
new residential development in the area
which meets this demand for the best
quality and facilities.
Crown Group Director of Sales and
Marketing Roy Marcellus said the
demand for high-end apartment close
to the Parramatta’s City Centre was
unprecedented.
“Parramatta’s workforce and population
have increased to include more executivelevel professionals looking for a place to
call home,” Mr Marcellus said.
“There is a huge demand for apartments
like this in Parramatta; offering luxury style
close to the city centre.
“This is our only project in Parramatta,
and it is certainly among our most asked
about developments and people are
surprised at the standard of apartments
now available in Sydney’s second CBD,” Mr
Marcellus said.
“Dozens of high-profile companies
are shifting their workforces here to
Parramatta and bringing executive-level
jobs traditionally located in the CBD to
Parramatta.
“These executives work hard and want
their home to match their lifestyle;
they don’t want to settle for average
apartments,” he said.
