This is the story of Tiny Turtle, Cool Cat, Handsome Hamster and Brave Bird.

“I know,” he said, “I’ll go to New York.”
So he started to walk, and he walked, and he walked, and he walked. On the way, he met Cool Cat.
“Hello, Cool Cat,” he said.
“Hello,” said Cool Cat.
“What’s the matter?” asked Tiny Turtle.
“I’m bored,” said Cool Cat, “very, very bored.
“I have an idea,” said Tiny Turtle, “why don’t you come to New York with me?”
“Awesome,” said Cool Cat.
So together they walked, and they walked, and they walked, and they walked. On the way, they met Handsome
Hamster.
“Hello, Handsome Hamster,” they said.
“Hello,” said Handsome Hamster.
“What’s the matter?” asked Cool Cat.
“I’m bored,” said Handsome Hamster, “very, very bored.”
“I have an idea,” said Cool Cat, “why don’t you come to New York with us?”
“Awesome,” said Handsome Hamster.
So together they all walked, and they walked, and they walked, and they walked. On the way, they met Brave Bird.
“Hello, Brave Bird,” they said.
“Hello,” said Brave Bird.
“What’s the matter?” asked Handsome Hamster.
“I’m bored,” said Brave Bird, “very, very bored.”
“I have an idea,” said Handsome Hamster, “why don’t you come to New York with us?”
“Awesome,” said Brave Bird.
So together they all walked.
Tiny Turtle was first, followed by Cool Cat and Handsome Hamster. Brave Bird was last.
All together, they walked, and they walked, and they walked, and they walked.
And they walked, and they walked, and they walked.
And they walked, and they walked, and they walked.
“Oh, I’m tired,” said Tiny Turtle.
“Oh, I’m tired,” said Cool Cat.

Frosty, the Snowman
Sally, Joe, Billy, and Tommy are building a snowman.
First, they roll two big snowballs for the body and a little one for the snowman’s head.
The children give him a button nose, a pipe, red mittens, galoshes, and a blue scarf. They call the snowman Frosty.
Then the children find a shiny top hat and place it on Frosty’s head. ZING! BLING! ZING!
“It’s magic,” the children shout, “the snowman is alive!”
Frosty and his friends go ice-skating and sledding and they build an igloo together.
The children never get cold when they play with Frosty. It’s magic!
One sunny day, Frosty wants to go shopping.
He likes the city, where the wind blows.
Oops! The wind blows Frosty’s hat away. He wants to catch it and runs after it.
The children follow Frosty but the traffic cop stops them – and Frosty is gone.
They are sad.
“Don’t worry, guys,” the police officer laughs and says, “Frosty has gone away, where all snowmen go on a sunny day.”
“Maybe he’ll come back next winter,” Tommy says. “I’m sure he will,” Sally answers.

The Mitten
Nick loves playing in the snow. He is very busy and often loses one of his mittens. Last winter he lost one striped
mitten, one blue mitten and one purple mitten. He never found them. This winter he has an idea.
“Grandma! Grandma, can you knit snow-white mittens for me? Please!” he asks her.
“What nonsense, if you drop a white mitten in the snow, you’ll never find it,” she says.
“But Grandma, I didn’t find the striped mitten, the ...”
“Ok, ok, ok. You always know the right answer!” Grandma smiles as Nick gives her a big hug.
After a few days Nick is proud of his new white mittens from his grandma. He puts them on and goes out to play
in the snow. He is very busy building a snowman and an igloo. You can guess what is going to happen? Right!
Soon, one white mitten is gone! Nick has no chance to find it in the deep snow.
After a while, a mole finds the mitten and crawls in.
“Squish. Squash. Squeeze. I won’t freeze,” he says.
After a while, a rabbit finds the mitten and crawls in.
“Squish. Squash. Squeeze. I won’t freeze,” he says.
After a while, a hedgehog finds the mitten and crawls in.
“Squish. Squash. Squeeze. I won’t freeze,” he says.
After a while, an owl finds the mitten and crawls in.
“Squish. Squash. Squeeze. I won’t freeze,” she says.
After a while, a badger finds the mitten and crawls in.
“Squish. Squash. Squeeze. I won’t freeze,” he says.
After a while, a fox finds the mitten and crawls in.
“Squish. Squash. Squeeze. I won’t freeze,” he says.
After a while, a bear finds the mitten and crawls in.
“Squish. Squash. Squeeze. I won’t freeze,” he says.
After a while, a mouse finds the mitten and crawls in.
“My name is Rose, can I sit on your nose?” she asks the bear.
“Squish. Squash. Squeeze. We won’t freeze,” all the animals say.
After a while there is a loud AAAA-AAAA-CHOOOO!
All the animals and the mitten sail high up in the air.
BOOM! The animals land in a big pile of snow.
SWOOSH! The mitten lands on Nick’s head.
He puts on his snow-white mittens and claps his hands.

34. Let’s listen to the story “The Selfish Giant”.
The Selfish Giant
A Giant lived in a big house with a beautiful garden. It was a wonderful place.
Every afternoon, children came and played in the Giant’s garden. Their favorite game was “Simon Says”.
====
One day, the Giant went away to visit his friend. After seven years he came back and saw the children playing in
his garden. He shouted, “What are you doing here? Get out! This is my garden!”
What a shame! The Giant did not like children any more. He was a very selfish man.
====
The children ran away and the Giant built a high wall around his garden. He put up a huge ugly sign. “No children!”, the Giant wrote selfishly.
The children had no more place to play. They were all very, very sad.
When the Selfish Giant looked at his garden, he said to himself, “No children! It’s quiet. It’s winter now, but soon
spring will come and it will be warm and sunny. The flowers will grow and my garden will be beautiful again.”
Then the Spring came all over the country but not to the Giant’s garden. He was too selfish. The only creatures
that liked to be there were the Winter, the Snow, and the Frost. The North Wind came. He blew and blew all day
long. And the Hail came and threw his icy balls into the garden.
The Giant thought, “Where’s the Spring? Why is the Spring coming so late this year?”
====
One morning, the Giant was lying in his cold bed. Suddenly, he heard some music. It was the most beautiful
music in the world. The Selfish Giant looked out of the window and could not believe his eyes. The children were
back again. They had climbed in through a hole in the wall. The Giant was not angry. “Hooray! Yippee! The spring
is back and the children too,” the Selfish Giant clapped his hands happily.
In one corner of the garden, however, it was still winter. There, he saw a little boy crying. He wanted to climb a
tree but he was too small. When the Giant saw the sad boy, he felt sorry. He walked out into the garden to help
the boy. As soon as the other children heard the Giant’s footsteps, they were very scared and ran away. Only the
little boy did not run away. His eyes were so full of tears that he did not see the Giant coming.
“Jump on my hand, I’ll put you up into the tree,” the Giant whispered softly.
And he gently put the child into the tree. The boy smiled and gave him a little kiss. “Thank you,” the Giant said.
====
Quickly, the Giant knocked down the wall. He was not selfish any more. Every day, after school, the children
played in the garden again. Only the little boy was missing. The Giant looked for him all over the garden but he
could not find him. “Where’s the little boy?” he asked the other children. But they did not know.
Years went by and the Giant grew very old. He sat in his big chair and said, “I have many beautiful flowers, but
the children are the most beautiful flowers of all.”
Then, one winter morning, a tree was covered with lovely white flowers. The little boy was standing under the
tree. What a surprise!
The Giant ran out into the garden to meet his friend. The little boy smiled and said, “Thank you, Mr. Giant. You
let me play in your garden. Come with me! I’ll show you my garden.”
That day after school, the children came into the garden like every day. They saw the Giant. He was lying under
the tree with his eyes closed.
“Are you sleeping?” asked a boy. “Wake up, wake up!” shouted a girl. But the Giant did not wake up. He was not
sleeping. The Giant was dead.
There was a lovely smile on his face and he was covered with beautiful white flowers.

35. Listen to the story again and do the tasks after each stop.
====
Let’s play “Simon Says.”
Simon says, “Stomp your feet!”
Simon says, “Spin around!”
Simon says, “Wave hello!”
Touch your nose!
Oops, some are wrong. I didn’t say “Simon says.”
Simon says, “Touch your ears!”
Simon says, “Walk around your chair!”
Clap your hands!
Oops, some are wrong. I didn’t say “Simon says.”
Simon says, “Walk around your chair!”
Sit down!
Fantastic! Now let’s continue the story.
====
What does the Giant look like? Get some paper and draw a picture of the Giant.
Fantastic! Now let’s continue the story.
====
Play different roles.
Be the North Wind and blow things away.
Be the Hail and throw icy balls.
Be the Frost and make people freeze.
Be the Spring and hide.
Be the Summer, be scared and shout out loud.
Be the Snow and cover everything.
Fantastic! Now let’s continue the story.
====
Turn your classroom into the Giant’s garden. Make trees, a wall, tunnels, holes, etc.
Then start playing in the garden. Do you need help from a friend to climb a tree or to jump over a hole?
Fantastic! Now let’s continue the story.

and with my back,
and they all dance
to the beat of my heart.

48. Listen to Antonio Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and draw the picture that
comes to mind, please.
49. Listen and find out which fruits Signor Arcimboldo uses.
A: Ciao, Fred and Frida. Welcome to my studio. Look. I’m painting a new picture.
Frida: Wow, your painting is full of fruit, Signor Arcimboldo.
A: Yes, there are strawberries and grapes, cherries and kiwis. Some lemons and bananas too. There are oranges,
apples and dates and aaahhh, a watermelon.
Frida: Okay, let me see. There are strawberries, grapes, cherries, kiwis, lemons, bananas, oranges, apples and
dates. Where is the watermelon?
A: Here it is, it’s the big mouth.
Frida: Great. What about the colors in your painting?
A: Look. The strawberries are not red. My strawberries are light blue.
Fred: And black grapes?
A: Yes, they are black. Black is my favorite color. And this color on my brush is for the oranges.
Frida: What? Turquoise oranges? I can’t imagine turquoise oranges.
Fred: I see some kiwis. What color do you use for the kiwis?
A: I’ll use red.
Frida: Dark green for the cherries? Yuck!
A: Why not? I like dark green.
Fred: And this, is this a boomerang?
A: No, a banana, of course! I’ll paint it orange.
Frida: The lemons must be yellow.
A: No way, my lemons are purple.
Frida: Strange!
Fred: And the apples?
A: Let’s see. Hhhmm. I guess, I’ll paint them pink.
Fred: Pink? Really? Very funny.
Frida: And these? Are these nuts?
A: No. These are dates. I’ll paint them silver.
Fred: The watermelon makes my mouth water. Yummy.
A: But not a neon watermelon.
Frida: Mr. Arcimboldo, this is an awesome picture. Will you sell it?
A: No, not this one. It’s a present for you.
Fred: Oh, thank you, Mr. Arcimboldo. We’ll put it in our classroom.
Frida: Thank you so much, Mr. Arcimboldo.
Fred and Frida: Arrivederci.
A: Ciao.

50. Come on, let’s rhyme.
Spring is showery, flowery, bowery.
Summer is hoppy, croppy, poppy.
Fall is wheezy, sneezy, freezy.
Winter is slippy, drippy, nippy.
51. Come on, let’s sing the “Four Seasons Song”.
2. Summer’s hot, it’s full of sun.
There’s no school, that’s lots of fun.
Ice cream at the pool – hooray.
Tests and homework? No way!
3. Fall is cool, the leaves fall down,
the colors change all over town.
Days are short, it’s back to school,
raking leaves is now the rule.
4. Winter’s cold, the snowflakes fall,
snowball fights are fun for all.
To the south the birds will go,
it’s too cold for plants to grow.

on the correct buildings, please.
Stevie’s Job Search
“Imagine, Stevie,” Ralph Raccoon says, “Fred and Frida are stars!”
“What? I don’t believe you!” Stevie answers.
“Yes, it’s true. They are on the team of SPLISHSPLASH TV. You know, Fred is clever, he is the new weather frog and
Frida is the new chef. She cooks Froggy meals on a kids’ show.”
“Unreal! They are TV stars?” Stevie wonders.
At home, Stevie thinks, “I want to be a star too. I must find a job.”
He reads:
WINTER WONDERLAND MOVIES

A SNOWMAN
Stevie smiles and says, “That’s the right job for me. I’ll be a movie star.” He asks for an interview.
“A snowman, YOU? Ha, ha, ha, sorry, but you are too thin,” Ms. Winter says. “Goodbye, Mr. Stickbug.”
At home, Stevie is sad. He thinks, “I must find another job.”
He reads:
SPRINGFLOWER MUSICALS

A BALLET DANCER
Stevie smiles and says, “That’s the right job for me. I’ll be a musical star.”
He asks for an interview.
“A ballet dancer, YOU? Ha, ha, ha, sorry, but you are too clumsy,” Ms. Spring says. “Goodbye, Mr. Stickbug.”
At home, Stevie is angry. “I want to be a star!” he shouts. “I must find another job.”
He reads:
SUMMER PALACES

AN ICE CREAM MODEL
Stevie smiles and says, “That’s the right job for me. I’ll be a beauty star.” He asks for an interview.
“An ice cream model, YOU? Hu, hu, hu, sorry, but you are too ugly,” Mr. Summer says. “Goodbye Mr. Stickbug.”
At home, Stevie is very unhappy. Tears are in his eyes. Ralph Raccoon visits him and says, “Don’t worry, one day
you’ll be a star. You must find another job.”
He reads:
HOP ON! BOOKS

A PAGE MANAGER
Ralph smiles and says, “That’s the right job for you. You’ll be a top manager.” Stevie asks for an interview. “Page

Mr. Stickbug, I’m sure you’ll be a star!”
“A Star? No! A hero!” Stevie answers and there is a big smile on his face.
