Technical tour: Would you like to glimpse behind the scenes of the
Schauinsland cable car?
When inaugurated in 1930, the
Schauinsland cable car was a technical
sensation as the first loop cable car. And
even today, it has quite a lot to offer to
those interested in technology. During
the technical tour, have a look behind the
scenes of the cable car and not only learn
how the loop system and the drive work,
but also visit the carefully renovated
historical control cab from 1930.
From 1 July 2013 on, open tours are
offered every Sunday at 3 p.m.
Information and registration:
• Registration for participation is at
least 30 min. before the tour starts
at the counter of the lower station or
by telephone 24 hours beforehand.
• Minimum age: 12
• Tour length: ca. 30 min.
• Price: € 3,– per person
• Meeting point: waiting hall, upper
station of Schauinsland cable car
• Extra tour dates upon request for
groups of max. 15 people

A whole year of lifts to the top: Lift up on high for
12 months long with your personal Schauinsland cable car annual ticket.
Enjoy the most comfortable and environmentally friendly style of reaching the
top of Freiburg’s landmark mountain
the whole year long with one ticket. Just
purchase your ticket at VAG pluspunkt
or at the lower station of the Schauinsland cable car for 50 euros (adults) or 25
euros (children). It allows you to go up
and down the mountain once a day for a
whole 12 months.

An experience high above the city: The
Schauinsland doesn’t only offer a great view, but a lot to discover as well.
Hover on the summit of Freiburg’s
landmark mountain in the Schauinsland
cable car, enjoy the fantastic panoramic
view of the city of Freiburg and the
Rhine valley and start your day with a
rich breakfast at 1,220m height. After
a short walk, you will soon reach the
Schauinsland Mine Museum. Experience
800 years of mining history in the largest
silver mine in Southern Germany at first
hand. Then speed down to the lower station on high-tech scooters equipped with
hydraulic high-performance disc brakes
on specially prepared and designated
forest routes. Of course, you can also take
a comfortable shuttle back to the valley
by cable car.
Energy trip: Nowhere else will you find more exciting ideas about
energy than on Freiburg’s landmark mountain.

is easy: from Freiburg, take tram no. 2

the Schauinsland cable car? From 1 July 2013 on,
open tours are offered every Sunday at 3 p.m.

Sometimes you just have to observe things from on
high: enjoy regional specialties on Freiburg’s landmark mountain at a height of 1,220 m. Relax with
our rich breakfast buffet on our large sun terrace, a
light evening meal (the German “Vesper”), or a cosy
cake and coffee session in front of the fireplace. We are
open for you every day from 9 a.m. starting on 2 June
2013 and look forward to your visit.

Already from far away, the Schauinsland Tower, also
known as Eugen Keidel Tower, can be spotted. Climb
up the 31m-high viewing tower in wooden timber
frame construction. The overwhelming view is worth
it! From the upper station, you get to the tower in
about 30 minutes.

Mine Museum
With some 100km of length, distributed over 22
levels, the mine developed in the Schauinsland mountain over 800 years in the search for silver, lead, and
zinc is the largest one in the Black Forest and the
Vosges. It shows all mining periods typical of metal
ore mining and is a valuable monument for cultural
history. Experience the history of technology in three
different tours. Walking time from the upper station
is about 10 minutes.

Schniederlihof Farmhouse Museum
Receive a warm welcome in the Schniederlihof, a
400-year-old farmhouse museum. Here, you will be
given knowledgeable and friendly information about
what the often hard life of the Black Forest mountain
farmers was like in the early days. Learn all about
the farmhouse with its “Kuchi”, “Schniedesel”,
“Bühni”, and the “Herrgottswinkel” in the “Stube”.

elevation. It’s not only comfortable and
barrier-free, but also environmentally
friendly. For the same distance, a car
produces 60 times more CO2 emissions
than the cable car. After all, the cable
car has been operated with 100% green
energy since 2009.
