THE TRIENNIAL RETURNS TO LAS VEGAS
AQUACULTURE 2016
Every three years, the Triennial is held somewhere in the
United States. In 2016, the Triennial returns to the exciting
city of Las Vegas, Nevada!
THE TRIENNIAL IS THE LARGEST
AQUACULTURE MEETING IN THE WORLD!
The Triennial is the largest aquaculture conference and
tradeshow held in the world with nearly 4000 attendees
from over 90 countries and even more countries are
expected to have attendees at AQUACULTURE 2016.
The Triennial combines the annual meetings of the World
Aquaculture Society, National Shellfisheries Association,
Fish Culture Section of the American Fisheries Society, and
the National Aquaculture Association. In addition to the
annual meetings of the main sponsors, look what else is
happening at AQUACULTURE 2016!
• AQUACULTURE AMERICA - Annual Meeting of the U.S.
Chapter of World Aquaculture Society, the National
Aquaculture Association, and the U.S. Aquaculture
Suppliers Association.
• Annual Meeting of the American Tilapia Association
• Annual Meeting of the Striped Bass Growers Association
• Annual Meeting of the U.S. Trout Farmers Association
• Special sessions organized by Aquacultural Engineering
Society and International Association of Aquaculture
Economics and Management
• Many other meetings of working groups, government
agencies and related aquaculture activities
• Program with technical sessions and producers seminars
covering virtually all species grown by aquaculture
• AND - look at all of the Associate Sponsors who are
participating in the program development!
The last Triennial was held in 2013 in Nashville where it
was pronounced a huge success by the nearly 3000 people
who attended. Don’t miss this Triennial!

James L. Anderson is director of a new Institute for Sustainable Food Systems and professor of Food and Resource Economics at the
University of Florida. Prior to joining UF, he was the advisor for Oceans, Fisheries and Aquaculture and leader of the Global Program on
Fisheries and Aquaculture (PROFISH) at The World Bank. He joined The World Bank in 2010 after chairing the Department of Environmental
& Natural Resource Economics at the University of Rhode Island. His research has focused on natural resource management, fisheries
and aquaculture economics, markets and international trade. Recent work has been directed toward the role of seafood in food security,
constraints to aquaculture development, and evaluating how aquaculture is changing global natural resource use in both developed and
developing nations. He received his Ph.D. from U. California, Davis.

STATISTICS IN AQUACULTURE –
Multiple Comparisons and
Response Surfaces including
Mixture Experiments
IN STRUCTOR
Dallas E. Johnson, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS.
BIOGRAPHY
Dallas Johnson is Professor Emeritus and former Head of
the Department of Statistics at Kansas State University.
In a career spanning 35+ years, Dallas has held numerous
consulting, research and teaching appointments and
continues to teach short courses and workshops on a
variety of topics in statistics. His outstanding teaching
and professional achievements have been recognized
through several awards from professional societies,
faculty, and students alike, including election as a
Fellow of the American Statistical Association. In
addition to co-authoring Volumes 1, 2, and 3 of the
seminal series Analysis of Messy Data, now in its second
edition, he is the founding editor of the Journal of
Agricultural, Biological, and Environmental Statistics
and has served on the editorial boards of The American
Statistician, Communications in Statistics - Statistical
Reviews, and Communications in Statistics - Simulations
and Computations.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Several studies have pointed out the misuse of multiple
comparison tests in agricultural sciences. Aquaculture
researchers have only recently begun to pay attention
to this area of data analysis. However, misconceptions
and a lack of understanding are evident in our journal
articles. The current workshop will critically address a
variety of mean comparison techniques and give you the
tools to understand and correctly apply those techniques
to your data. Response surface models are especially
useful when one of the important goals of an experiment
is to determine values for a set of treatment factors
that will give near-optimum responses for the variable(s)
being modeled. Consider an experiment where one
desires to study the effects of k different factors,X1,
X2, X3, …, Xk, on one or more dependent variables
y. It is assumed that y is a function of the k different
factors, i.e., y = f(X1, X2, X3, …, Xk) + e and that the
function f(X1, X2, X3, …, Xk) can be approximated by
a polynomial function,. such as a quadratic function
when k = 2, as in . Mixture experiments will also be
considered where there are restrictions on the predictor
variables such as X1 + X2 + X3+… + Xk = 1.
