All abilities welcome Open from 6.15am-8.30pm From the Headmasters I wish the teams every success and enjoyment for the tremendous tour to Australia and Singapore. The College has run so many excellent tours over the last twenty or so years and is particularly indebted to the fundraising team of parents. To these tireless parents and our Australian hosts, I give my sincere thanks and appreciation. Best Wishes Mr S R Borthwick Headmaster Group personal training Train like an individual not a robot Fun effective fitness ...small gym with big heart The K Club, 7b Waterhouse Lane, Kingswood, Surrey KT20 6EB Telephone: 01737 851115 email: [email protected] www.thekclub.co.uk We are very grateful that hockey players and netballers from Epsom have the opportunity of visiting the beautiful and exciting countries of Australia and Singapore. Our thanks go to all those in the United Kingdom and abroad who have made it possible, and especially to schools and families in Australia who are taking our travellers in and making them welcome. The touring party is not simply going down the road to play old rivals and returning to the comfort of home. A tour to the New World is a marvellous experience, an exciting new country, a seemingly endless procession of engaging and welcoming new friends. I am confident that those who make contact on the field will develop a healthy respect for one another as players and as persons, and that new friendships and understandings will be fostered as a result. Best Wishes Jay Pigott Headmaster (from September 2012) What a tour we have planned! Queensland is our first stop on this exciting tour. On arrival we will be swiftly transferred to Moreton Island where we will shake off any jet lag exploring this pristine destination just off the Gold Coast. A highlight will surely be seeing and possibly feeding the wild dolphins. The following day, we return to the mainland for the first of our matches and hosting at St Margaret's and Clayfield. We stay overnight at the iconic Surfers Paradise, another new destination for us and famous for its beautiful beaches. Sydney sees us visit old friends at Barker College and we relish the prospect of playing some top teams here. Home to many of our present and former ‘gappies’, Sydney has much to offer us as tourists. Sport is definitely in the Aussie blood with courts, pitches and arenas round every corner so it is fabulous to meet so many like-minded competitors. The attractions in Sydney are numerous and we hope to sample a few in between our tough fixture schedule. Our Australian leg finishes in Darwin, capital of the Northern Territory. We look forward to seeing the different attractions laid back Darwin has to offer, from the rich Aboriginal culture to the National Park nearby. We know competition is going to be stiff, going on previous years’ experience! With its diversity of culture and lively buzz, Singapore has always been a favourite stopover location. Competition here is ever well prepared and the heat inevitably poses an additional obstacle. A chance to refresh, meet up with a few OEs and sample some amazing sights before we head home. This year the tourists are a talented group of young ladies who love their sport. I know they have been excited about the tour for a number of months now and we are all looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. Meeting old friends, making new ones and experiencing the culture of other nations through sport is a fantastic opportunity. I thank the pupils for training hard, their parents for their generous support, the accompanying staff for their commitment. To our host schools we owe a huge debt of gratitude for making our trip possible. Without all this support and effort, we would not be embarking on a trip of a lifetime. I can't wait! I have very fond memories of playing in Australia, in particular my first game at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 against the hosts Australia. They are a competitive sporty nation; go out there and take it to them. Represent your country with pride and respect. Make sure you let us know how you get on in your matches. They are so passionate about their netball and the facilities they have out their will astound you. Singapore will be equally as exciting. They hosted the World Netball Championships there is July 2011 which was my last ever match and tournament for England. It is a special place with great people who are extremely friendly and love their sport. It’s somewhere everyone has to go and I can’t think of a better way to see its top cities than with my best friends whilst playing two of my absolute favourite sports and just getting a bit competitive! Before I came to Epsom in M4 I was at Feltonfleet Prep but since being at Epsom the sport has taken by breath away, having played for both the under 16A’s unbeaten hockey team as centre forward and the netball team as WA/C this year gone by. I’m definitely most looking forward to the weather in Australia and working on my tan! The three words that best describe me are crazy, sporty and nerdy. I’m Hannah, sometimes known as Wilko. I’m 15 and will be going into L6. I arrived at Epsom in M4 from The Hawthorns and play either right or left wing in hockey as well as making the Surrey squad this year. I also play C or WA in the netball team and I can’t wait for the sports tour as I’ve never had the chance to visit Australia or Singapore before. The three words that best describe me are motivated, sporty and competitive. Amelia Warner Rachel Williams My name is Amelia Warner. I joined Epsom in 2008 in M4 from Greenacre School. I play defence in hockey and in the centre court in netball - mostly as WA, C or WD. I'm really looking forward to going on tour and am very excited about seeing Australia and having the opportunity to improve my sporting skills and meet new people. If I had to describe myself in three words, I would say I was fun, focussed and happy! My name is Rachel Williams; some people call me Rach or more lovingly Ginge. I have been at Epsom since M4 after leaving the Hawthorns School at age 13. I'm now 16 and will be going into L6 in September. In hockey I play wherever I am needed but mainly on the left. At school, for netball I play GA but GD for my club (odd combination, yes) I also spend a lot of time hitting a small white ball around a green field, which some people like to call golf. 3 words to describe me would be athletic, determined and competitive. I'm most looking forward to relaxing with my friends on the sandy beaches and exploring Sydney with all the sights it has to offer. Managing the shape and development of your child’s jaws can be vitally important for improving facial aesthetics and ensuring the best possible results. When researching who to trust with your child’s smile, it’s advisable you look for a Specialist Orthodontist whose expertise and work reflects the importance of facial aesthetics. After all, you will be putting your child’s most precious asset, their face, in their hands. The difference between a Dentist and a Specialist Orthodontist. In the UK, all dentists are permitted to provide orthodontics, and can even call themselves ‘orthodontists’. In contrast, ‘Specialist Orthodontists’ undertake three years of extra full-time training to gain an MOrth, which is required to be registered as a ‘Specialist’ with the General Dental Council. Specialist Orthodontists may also undergo two further years of training in treating the most difficult orthodontic cases to become a hospital consultant. a Specialist Orthodontist, you can be confident they will have had the “ By choosing training needed to ensure your child receives the best possible orthodontic care. “ Creating the perfect smile. When is the right time? It’s never too late to begin orthodontic treatment but we like to meet patients at age eight or nine so that we can plan the best time for starting treatment. This is especially important if facial growth guidance is advised. An early diagnosis of certain problems can dramatically reduce the amount of treatment needed and create extra space to give a perfect smile without losing teeth. Some members of the public wrongly think that orthodontists don’t want to see patients before all their adult teeth are through. If you have any doubts, just self-refer so that if an early phase of treatment would be beneficial, this can start. If it is too soon, a Specialist Orthodontist will be best placed to let you know when to schedule the next visit and you’ll have peace of mind in the meantime.
