Moisture, organic liquids, acids, oils, cleaning agents or bacteria attack coverings in slaughter houses, industrial kitchens, car wash facilities, swimming pools or garages and cause damage. The consequence is expensive repairs. Over the past decades reaction resin mortars on epoxy resin basis were specified by planners and were used on many industrial and commercial surfaces that were subject to heavy loads and high mechanical use. Epoxy resins are beneficial in areas with mechanical stresses due to their diverse chemical resi- 4 stance, high mechanical strength and low abrasion. However, epoxy resins tend to show weaknesses when subjected to hot water, organic acids or oxidants. Another weak point of epoxy resins is at the same time every swimming pool operator’s nightmare: Microbiological growth, which causes mould formation at overflow gutters and underwater lights. Epoxy resin still hasn’t shaken off the worry of it potentially harbouring health hazards; the processing of epoxy resin also requires more diligence and takes longer compared with standard cement joints. Lately, Botament® has launched two products for these problem areas, BOTON® EF 500 and BOTON® EK 500, that have been tested and approved in accordance with the latest KTW/KSW Certification 2008, i.e. they have met the latest, highly demanding test criteria in drinking water approval procedures. Coupled with this is outstanding processability – which is virtually unique for epoxy resins. The success for both products since the market launch attests to that. A real benefit for any professional applicator who has to work with these materials on a regular basis. KSW/KTW certificati on BOTON® EK 500 BOTON® EF 500 Epoxy resin adhesive 2 comp. Epoxy resin joint grout, 2 comp. Industrie_Objektbau IRL.qxd:Layout 5 19.10.2010 For surfaces that are less suitable for epoxy resins, based on the limitations mentioned earlier, Botament® has been developing minerally-inorganic silicate-based tile adhesives and joint mortars. These product systems are also durable, economic and most importantly, their application is kind to the environment. Our product BOTON CF 200, BOTON® S 250, BOTON® MF 300 and BOTON® SF 100 feature, depending on the respective product, higher resistances in terms of either temperature, acids, leaches, organic liquids or oxidants. On top of that, they have clearly improved application characteristics compared with epoxy resins. ® 10:45 Uhr Seite 5 Their major advantage, however, is their high resistance against micro-biological attack, which eliminates undesirable mould, e.g. in food production or in swimming pools and wellness facilities, when combined with adequate cleaning. Irrespective whether product systems are silicate-based or epoxy resin-based, to produce a rather durable and low-maintenance tile covering the installation materials must always be matched exactly to the loading to be expected. The company Botament® has sound know-how in the development and manufacture of epoxy resin-based products. Botament® was also the first company to launch a minerally-inorganic system on the market after years of painstaking research and development efforts. Since then this area has seen continuous expansion and improvements by way of working closely with professional applicators all over Europe. Botament® Productsystems: Building materials for professionals 5 Industrie_Objektbau IRL.qxd:Layout 5 19.10.2010 10:45 Uhr Seite 6 Bonded Waterproofing Building structures and components must be built in such a way that moisture or other chemical, physical or biological influences cannot pose any hazards or cause unreasonable nuisances. This has been regulated in all the building regulations of the German Federal countries. As a consequence, building structures, such as pools, showers, terraces, balconies and similar must be protected against moisture penetration. Building components subject to moisture load are usually fitted with tiles or slabs. Ceramic coverings can withstand moisture and are water-repellent, but are not water-impermeable; they are however water-permeable to such an extent that necessitates additional sealing. 6 Moisture loading Bonded waterproofing with tiles and slabs in interior and exterior areas are defined according to socalled moisture penetration classes. Such bonded waterproofing has proven successful in practice. Depending on moisture load the distinction is made between high loads (application area regulated by building authorities) in classes A, B and C and moderate load (not regulated by building authorities) in classes A0 and B0. Bonded waterproofing against non-pressing water at high load, e.g. in wet rooms in public and commercial areas, as well as against pressing water from the inside in interior and exterior areas, such as in swimming pools, are published in the Building Regulation List A, part 2 of the Deutsche Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) [German Institute for Construction Technology]. Building Authority Certification The construction chemicals industry is obliged to produce a building authority certification (abP) based on agreed test principles. This attests that a product is fit for the purpose of bonded waterproofing. Products that have been so tested are identified with the Ü-sign. By contrast to building structure waterproofing in accordance with DIN 18195 bonded waterproofing of coverings made from ceramic or natural stone do not require any further protective layers. This means lower installation heights and construction thicknesses can be realized. Another advantage of this construction method is the fact that the substrate cannot get soaked by hygienic and/or chemically questionable waters. Mineral mortar systems offer micro-organisms a bad breeding-ground, but have limited resistance against cleaning agents and chemicals. BOTON® S 250 and BOTON® MF 300 are minerally-inorganic silicate mortars. They have high mould resistance and are therefore particularly suited for use in swimming pools and wellness spas. They • are water vapour diffusion open • are highly steam-jet resistant • have drinking water approval in accordance with DVGW W 270 and are KTW and KSW tested Should epoxy resin joint mortars nevertheless be used in swimming pools, they must be approved in accordance with the ZDB datasheet “Swimming Pool Construction“ and must hold valid KSW/KTW certification from the “Deutschen Gesellschaft für das Badewesen“ [German Association for Swimming Pools]. This also includes the W 270 Test, which gives proof that the formation of micro organisms – compared with standard trade epoxy resin joint mortars – is not promoted using BOTON® EF 500. by preparation Background -pressure means of high asted! rays or sandbl 1 2 Priming wall and floor areas with BOTACT® D 11. 3 Insertion of the sealing tape and interior edge BOTACT® SB 78. 4 Application of BOTACT MD 28, a two-layered special sealant. ® 5 Application of Flexible Superior Adhesive BOTACT® M 21 Classic or of Flexible Fluid-Bed Mortar BOTACT® M 29. 6 Insertion of slabs into BOTACT M 21 Classic using the combined method. ® Reliable jointing of the cover using the Swimming Pool Grout BOTON® S 250. This demands a sophisticated floor construction, especially with regard to tile adhesive, joint mortar and sealant. For a high chemical-resistant epoxy resin waterproofing we recommend for such areas under heavy loads BOTON® E 170 Epoxy Resin Waterproofing. In most cases, however, it is possible to use the BOTACT® Sealing and Decoupling Membrane, which secures a more rapid installation progress. 1 Priming of wall and floor areas with BOTON® E 120. In this area our special adhesive mortars and joint mortars with high electrostatic discharge offer reliable protection. The threshold value of the resistance to ground (RTG) depends on the respective local conditions. In general, an RTG of 106 is sufficient. Where particularly cap-sensitive, potentially explosive substances are present, a reduction of the earth resistance value (correlates to an improvement of conductivity) may be necessary. 1 Fitting of copper conductive tape onto the floor areas. 3 Inserting the conductive tiles into BOTON® TK 150 adhesive bed 2 Application of BOTON® TK 150 with suitably sized notched trowel. 4 Preparing the base with BOTON® TK 150. Waterproofing membranes in wellness areas Sealing Membrane in wellness areas The waterproofing of floor covering constructions are especially challenging, because these areas are characterised by high room temperatures coupled with high humidity. Sealing membranes are not just water impervious, highly alkaline- and chemical-resistant, but also have high resistance against micro organisms. Here Botament® provides with its flexible superior adhesive BOTACT® M 21 Classic or BOTACT® M 10 Speed and with the BOTACT® Sealing and Decoupling Membrane a couple of products which are all that is required to produce the entire structure in terms of sealing and bonding. Use of building boards The water-repellent BOTACT® Building Boards allow almost endless creative design possibilities. They have the advantage that they can be easily cut with a utility knife and are simply bonded with silicone. Building boards can either be used as carrier substrates for subsequent tiling or can be used for decorative work or filling. Benches, shower cubicles, shelves and wall claddings can be quickly and easily created from these carrier elements and can then be worked on. With these quality coated carrier elements loungers become real eye-catching building parts. 1 2 Priming with BOTACT D 11. ® 3 Application of BOTACT® M 21 Classic / BOTACT® M 10 Speed after the sealant and interior corner BOTACT® SB 78 have been installed. 4 Fitting of the BOTACT Sealing and Decoupling Membrane into BOTACT® M 21 Classic / BOTACT® M 10 Speed. ® 5 Fitting of the cover with BOTACT® M 21 Classic / BOTACT® M 10 Speed. Waterproofing systems in car wash plants Here oil is ever-present: everywhere where vehicles are washed and repaired, lubricants, alkaline cleaning agents and acidic rim cleaners are unavoidable. Floors in car wash plants are subjected to all of the above loads. Specially developed adhesive mortars and joint mortars deliver improved safety in this area. Depending on the respective loading we recommend our silicate-based adhesive and joint mortars BOTON® CF 200 and BOTON® S 250 or even the epoxy resin-based joint mortar BOTON® EF 500. It’ll pay off; even in car wash places, where oil residue and wash foam enter into a particularly risky marriage. 1 2 Priming the screed with BOTACT® D 11. 3 Installing sealing tape and interior corner BOTACT® SB 78 into BOTACT® M 21 Classic / BOTACT® M 10 Speed 4 BOTACT® Inserting the Sealing and Decoupling Membrane into BOTACT® M 21 Classic / BOTACT® M 10 Speed. Different load requirements call for variable and sound solutions. The aspect “floor“ is no different. The highest stresses put on garages, supermarkets or on showrooms are typical spheres of action for vibration floors. Investors like these floors, because of their early usability and high stability. 1 Application of the special contact slurry BOTACT® M 25 Flex as a bonding course. 3 Application of contact slurry BOTACT® M 25 Flex. 5 Filling the joint with MULTIFUGE or BOTON® CF 200. 2 Floating of screed. 4 Insertion of tiles into the still fresh screed containing the contact slurry BOTACT® M 25 Flex. 6 Streak-free washing of MULTIFUGE or BOTON® CF 200.
