The 2014 Fordham offense set school marks for rushing yards (2,353) and scoring (569). • The 2014 Rams led the Patriot League in passing offense, total offense and scoring offense while on the national level the Rams ranked fourth in passing offense in the NCAA FCS and ranked among the top ten in scoring offense, team passing efficiency, total offense and first downs. • The 2014 Rams also performed in the classroom as two student-athletes were named Capital One Academic All-American®, Brett Biestek (first team) and Dan Light (second team). • Accomplished what is believed to be a first in 2013 when Fordham had a 4,00-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and three 1,000-yard receivers. • After going 6-5 in his first year in 2012, Moorheard led the Rams to unprecedented success in 2013, guiding the team to a 12-2 overall record and an appearance in the NCAA FCS Championship. • Fordham won the first ten games of the year for the first time in school history and was ranked as high as fifth in the NCAA FCS polls, Fordham’s highest-ever ranking on the FCS level. • The Rams set a school record for most wins in a season in the modern era (since 1920) and accomplished a plethora of firsts, including the first win over an NCAA FBS team (Temple), the first win over a top-ten ranked NCAA FCS team on Jack Coffey Field (Villanova) and the school’s first ever home NCAA FCS championship win on Jack Coffey Field (Sacred Heart). • Named the 2013 Patriot League Coach of the Year, the 2013 AFCA Regional Co-Coach of the Year and a finalist for both the Eddie Robinson Award as the NCAA FCS national Coach of the Year and the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. 3 - Fordham University Football Game Notes RAMS AMONG FCS LEADERS Over the past three years, the Fordham University football squad is tied for third in the NCAA FCS in overall wins with 23 and third in winning percentage at .821 (23-5). MOORHEAD BEST RECORD FOUR YEARS • Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead has a 30-10 record in his first three-plus years at Fordham, the best record for any head football coach at Fordham over his first three-plus years. • • NO EXPERIENCE – NO PROBLEM The Fordham Rams entered the 2015 season opener at Army West Point without a quarterback on the roster who had attempted a pass in a college game (the lone player to have attempted a pass in a college game is punter Joe Pavlik, who threw a touchdown pass to Marc DeSisto last year at Army). But not to worry. Junior Kevin Anderson completed 15 of 23 passes for 322 yards in the 37-35 win. It wasn’t just quarterback where the Rams lacked experience heading into the opener. Fordham also did not have a player on the roster who had attempted a field goal or extra point in a college game. Not to worry. Junior Makay Redd was two-for-two in field goals, hitting one for 22 and one for 27 yards, and three-for-three in PATs. • FORDHAM NAMES TEAM CAPTAINS Juniors Kevin Anderson and George Dawson and seniors Stephen Hodge and Garrick Mayweather, Jr. have been named 2015 Fordham University football team captains it was announced by head coach Joe Moorhead, who served as a captain for Fordham as a senior in 1995. www.fordhamsports.com 2002, 2007 & 2014 Patriot League Champions Fordham Football Adds New Teammate Jonah Shainberg Becomes A Ram Despite the fast start our roster. The ax, first brought out in his first season at Fordham, is there to remind the players that when Abraham Lincoln was asked if he was given six hours to chop down a tree what would he do and he responded that he would spend the first five hours sharping the ax. It's to show the players that preparation is as important as execution. The Preseason Prognosticators 2015 Patriot League Coaches/SIDs Poll TeamPoints (First Place Votes) 1. The former record of six was set by the 1987 squad (the Rams have used Jack Coffey Field since 1970). NFL CONNECTIONS • Three members of the 2015 Fordham University football squad have connections to the NFL: • Senior linebacker Andrew Erenberg’s father, Rich, played at Colgate and then for three years with the Pittsburgh Steelers. • Junior defensive lineman Josh Klecko’s father, Joe, played for eleven years with the New York Jets, while his brother, Dan, won three Super Bowl titles, two with the New England Patriots (2004 and 2005) and one with the Indianapolis Colts (2007). • Freshman Dylan Mabin’s brother, Jordan, is a member of the San Diego Chargers. RAMS IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY • Over the past three years the Fordham Rams are 14-4 in non-conference play (not including the four NCAA FCS Championship games). • In 2013 the Rams were unbeaten against non-conference opponents with a perfect 6-0 5 - Fordham University Football Game Notes www.fordhamsports.com 2002, 2007 & 2014 Patriot League Champions BY THE NUMBERS 1 Collegiate passes thrown by a mem- ber of the Fordham opening day football roster (Punter Joe Pavlik who threw a touchdown pass to Marc DeSisto on a fake punt at Army last year) 3 Patriot League Titles (2002, 2007, 2014) 4 NCAA FCS Championship Appearances (2002, 2007, 2013, 2014) 18 Number of Fordham All-Patriot League selections last fall, a league record 30 Wins over the past three years, the most of any New York City area team 30 Freshmen on the 2015 Fordham football roster Did You Know? Fordham Appeared in the First Televised College Football Game 76 Years Ago On September 30, 1939, Fordham hosted Waynesburg College at Triboro Stadium on Randall’s Island. The game was the season opener for the Rams, who beat Waynesburg, 34-7. Announcer Bill Stern called the contest over station W2XBS (now WNBC) as a demonstration of this new medium at the World’s Fair. Two iconoscope cameras, which had just been patented by RCA, were used to televise the game with the images being sent to a relay station 10 miles from the stadium and then, by cable, to the top of the Empire State Building, where a large transmitter broadcast the game to the lucky few who owned a television in those days. A top-of-the-line set in 1939, a Clifton, sold for about $600. Notable Fordham players who appeared in the game include Len Eshmont and Dominic Principe, who went on to play in the professional ranks, as well as Ralph Friegden, father of former Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen, who scored twice in the game and Donald Lambeau - son of Green Bay Packer legend Earl Louis "Curly" Lambeau. Against Army on Friday night, Edmonds opened his season by rushing 20 times for 126 yards and three scores and also catching six passes for 140 yards, as he led the Rams to a 37-35 win, Fordham's second win over an NCAA FCS program over the past three years. His third touchdown from 10 yards out put the Rams up 37-29 with 12:04 to play, a lead they would not relinquish. Edmonds had 65 of Fordham's 82 yards on the go-ahead drive (31 receiving/34 rushing). Edmonds' receptions and receiving yards marks each were career highs, and the 140 receiving yards were the most by a Patriot League running back since Bucknell's A.J. RAMS PERFECT FOLLOWING LOSSES UNDER MOORHEAD • The Fordham University football Rams are a perfect 7-0 over the past three-plus years coming off a loss under head coach Joe Moorhead (not counting the season-ending loss – but even so, the Rams won season openers in 2013, 2014 and 2015 after dropping the last game of the previous year). SO WHAT & #OAT • The Rams have two sayings for the 2015 season: So What and #OAT. Here are the explanations of each by head coach Joe Moorhead. • So What - “No one cares how many starters you lost. Football is a bottom line endeavor. When asked how the team will be with the loss of so many starters we reply, ‘So what?’ We’re not going to make excuses. Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure.” • One at a Time #OAT - “One rep, one drill, one period, one practice, one day, one week, one game at a time,” explained Moorhead. “We’ll keep stacking those on top of each other and make sure we’re investing our time rather than spending our time.” WHAT’S NEXT? • The Rams will host the Columbia University Lions on Jack Coffey Field next Saturday, September 19, at 1:00 p.m. in the annual Liberty Cup Game which will also be Homecoming for the Rams. 2015 GAME-BY-GAME STARTERS - OFFENSE Opp RT Army West Point Marlin Villanova Columbia Monmouth Lafayette Penn Holy Cross Lehigh Colgate Bucknell Georgetown RG Boyd C LG Hartman Mayweather LT Coyle QB RB Anderson Edmonds TE Odom WR B. www.fordhamsports.com 2002, 2007 & 2014 Patriot League Champions The 2015 Season GAME 1 GAME 2 Fordham 37 Army West Point 35 September 4, 2015 - Michie Stadium The motto of the 2015 Fordham University football Rams is “So What?” as in: You lost over 30 seniors to graduation? “So What?”. You have 18 new starters due to those losses. “So What?” You’re opening your 2015 season with 30 freshmen and their first collegiate game will be at Army West Point. “So What?” There were loud shouts of “So What?” in the visiting locker room at Michie Field tonight as the Rams pulled off another win over an FBS team, defeating Army West Point, 37-35. Fordham head coach Joe Moorhead may want his agent to start shopping the screen rights for tonight’s game as what the Rams accomplished tonight is usually seen only in Hollywood scripts. Starting a quarterback who hasn’t thrown a pass in over two years. No problem. Starting a placekicker who had never kicked a field goal in a college game. Big deal. Starting nine new players on defense after allowing over 350 rushing yards to Army last year. Fuhgeddaboudit. Junior Kevin Anderson, who last attempted a pass in a game as a senior in high school in 2012, looked like he’d been a three-year starter, completing 15 of 23 passes for 322 yards and rushing for a score, while Patriot League preseason offensive player of the year Chase Edmonds showed why he was the 2014 Jerry Rice Award winner as he rushed for 110 yards on 20 carries with three scores and also caught six passes for 140 yards. Defensively, the Rams allowed Army 256 rushing yards, more than 100 fewer than last year, and came up with big plays when needed, especially on a late twopoint try by the Black Knights. Trailing by eight, 37-29 with 2:32 left, Army scored on a 27-yard pass to make it a two-point game, 37-35. The Black Knights went for the two-point conversion to tie the game but the rush attempt was thwarted by the Fordham defense, led by Marcus Fulmore and Niko Thorpe.
