Club News
From the General Manager
As another busy summer season fast approaches, the time is again right to remind you all of
certain Club Rules. I’ll preface this by saying that without rules there is chaos, and these rules
are far from unreasonable. Like all of the rules, they are in place for the benefit and
enjoyment of the Club by the membership as a whole. Also, the vast majority of you follow
the rules, so thankfully this is not really applicable to you.
 Guests are both welcome and wanted here at the Club, subject to the limitations outlined
in the Club Rules document, which you can access through the website. Please just
remember that you must always accompany them (unless arrangements are made in
advance) and you must sign them in. This is your Club and you pay significant dues and fees
to belong and use Club facilities—please help us protect your investment by abiding by
guest rules.
 Another issue that arises during the summer especially is supervision of children. Simply
said, the Club rule is that children under the age of 16 must be supervised at all times unless they have completed the
Youth Orientation Course (available at age 12, see page 11). To the members who want to dine and let your young
children be children and run around on the outdoor patio for example, this rule seems harsh. However, I can assure
you that there are a host of members on the other side of this issue that want to see it enforced. A couple of other
factors are that there may very well be a paying function in the ballroom while children are running around, and there
is a fear of injury for children running full force on patio pavers.
 The final rule reminder relates to those adorable, lovable little creatures we call pets. We are certainly not anti-pet,
but a Club Rule has long existed that simply reads: Pets are not allowed on club premises, including the golf course. Now
we all think of course that our pet is the cutest, friendliest one alive. However, if you imagine what the Club might
look like if pets were allowed I think you will understand why the rule exists. We wouldn’t want multiple dogs for
example at the outdoor pool, for various reasons. I highlight this rule because over the past couple of years I have
seen a significant increase in the presence of dogs, in areas such as the parking lot, the golf course, near the tennis
courts, and in other areas immediately adjacent to the Clubhouse.
Thank you very much in advance for following these and other rules and making The Woodlands Club a fantastic hub
for your social and recreational enjoyment.
Until next month, we will see you around the Club,
Bill Robinson
Message from Membership
We’re off to another great start in the year, but sadly we lost about 20 full golf members
over the course of this never ending winter. In an effort to gain some full golf growth at the
start of the golf season, we will be offering 12 full golf memberships at preferred initiation
fee rates. These rates will be available to new full golf members by your invitation only.
Please think of friends and family who love golf and who love a great deal.
As an incentive and thank you to our own members, we are offering a one-month dues
credit to the referring member for each new member who joins as a result of your referral.
Complete Golf Pride Membership details are on the front page.
I am looking forward to seeing you around the Club,
Mary Anne

Fitness
From the Director of Fitness
So I am in the middle of class this morning and I
hear from one of our beloved members the old
saying “April showers bring May flowers” and it just
got me thinking. Aside from making me reflect on
my crazy grade school days, that saying reminds me
warmer weather is coming and coming soon. It has
been a tough winter, no doubt, but we got through
it. I always try to stay positive, no matter the
situation…at least try to see a positive point in any
circumstance, so I am hopeful that the month of
May will be warmer than April. Even if the average temperature for May is
higher than April by .0000001 degree, I will be a happy man. It is the little
things in life my friend.
We have had a number of recent complaints that a group of children who
are non-members are using the fitness center. Not cool. Please do not
hesitate to leave me a note, send me an email or stop in and see me and
let me know if you are suspicious of a person. Let me know what time it
happened and their description. That would help me put a stop to it. I
appreciate your help with this situation.
Summer is a great time of year for your children who are 12 and older to
come in and get a fitness room orientation. Please email Damian at
[email protected] if you are interested.
Yours in health,
Damian

ULTRA-ATHLETE X
This program had a little of
everything this year. I am sure if
you asked some of the participants
they would say it had a lot of
everything. Either way, the goal was
set and achieved with some hard
work. Great job by all involved and
thank you for challenging yourself.
Thank you so much for
participating in this Year’s UltraAthlete Fitness Challenge. We
appreciate you having as much fun
doing the program as we did
putting it together.

Here are some factors contributing to slow
play:
1. Not arriving at the facility on the time.
2. Not arriving at the first tee on time.
3. Not warming up or stretching properly
before the round.
4. Hitting ‘Mulligans’.
5. Playing the wrong (difficult) tees.
6. Searching for balls in hazards when there is
no hope of retrieval.
7. Parking carts in the wrong position around
greens.
8. Discussions about scoring at the green.
9. "Honors" - let the short hitter hit first.
10. Congregating in the fairways. Don’t watch
your fellow competitors hit EVERY one of
their shots.
Here are a few simple techniques for
improving the pace, without detracting
from the game:
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
Be aware of your position with regard to
the group in front.
Do not concern yourself with the group
behind; the fact that you are not holding
them up is irrelevant, as it is your group’s
responsibility to keep up with the group in
front.
If you feel that your group is falling behind,
advise the other players in your group.
If your group is behind, try to catch up
quickly.
Do not wait until it is your turn to play
before putting your glove on.
Do not wait until it is your turn to play
before calculating your yardage and
selecting your club.
Look at your own line of putt while the
other players in the group look at theirs
(within the bounds of normal etiquette).
At the green, position your bags so as to
allow quick movement off the green to the
next tee.
Move off the green as soon as all players in
your group have holed out; mark score
cards at or on the way to the next tee.
Play a provisional ball if your ball may be
lost outside a hazard or out of bounds.
If you keep up with the group in front, you cannot
be accused of slow play.
From the Director of Golf
An early season reminder…pace of play
can be boiled down to two simple phrases:
be prepared and be ready to play.
The Woodlands Club Pace of Play Policy won’t
affect most of our golfers because most of you
know the little things you have to do to keep a
group moving, but for those players who have
trouble keeping up a reasonable pace we’ve
devised a plan to help them keep track of their
pace of play.
PACE OF PLAY CLOCKS – (identified by a bright yellow tag) When the
group reaches a PACE OF PLAY CLOCK on the course, the time on the
clock should be before or the same time, but not later than the time
shown on the first tee pace clock. If for example you began your round
at 9:00AM, when you reach the PACE OF PLAY CLOCK on #6 tee it
should read 9:00AM or earlier. If it reads anything later than 9:00AM, you
are behind pace and need to catch up.
We’re happy to assist a group that is not sufficiently able or willing to
maintain our defined pace of play with ways to play more quickly (taking
enough clubs when leaving a cart or taking fewer practice swings, for
example).
We Want To Encourage Brisk Play. This way, a very slow player or
group–for whatever reason–will not be able to ruin the rounds of
everyone else. In fact, we want to encourage a culture of brisk, but not
rushed, play.
We believe most players will welcome this policy because it will
encourage shorter rounds of golf and put on notice those people who
really are not entering into the spirit of the game. We hope golfers will
soon get used to the reasonable pace of play and by not having to wait so
long between shots, will have better scorecards at the end of the day.
See side bar to left on what can contribute to slow play, and how to
improve it.

Irrigation pumps installed. Tanto returning 4/20, estimate of 5 weeks of remaining work.
Plan to communicate with members regarding opening and procedures. Green aerification
scheduled for early May.
HR Committee:
TIM WALKOE COMEDY NIGHT, APRIL 11
April 4 Meeting: Minutes from previous meeting approved as written. Chair welcomed new
members to the committee. Nominated Bill Goodspeed as new chair. GM presented a list
of tentative questions for use in employee survey to be rolled out late-summer.
Committee will provide feedback on questions. HR Director presented committee
members with current employee handbook. Management asked committee to review
handbook and suggest edits to ensure policies are up to date.
Membership Committee:
April 7 meeting: Positive feedback received on Committee Mixer, Comedy Night sold out
at 104 and preparing for Spring Fling 9 Hole Scramble & Cocktail Party. The committee
continues to feel that having over 20 Full Golf openings should necessitate a Full Golf only
spring membership promotion for a limited time with a limited number of openings. The
motion will be presented at the Board’s April 15 meeting.
Tennis Committee:
April 8 Meeting: Budget ahead of target for month and year. Discussed measures to
decrease pickleball noise, such as quieter paddles, avoiding play Saturday morning 9-10:30
and considering a noise dampening curtain. Comment cards reviewed.
