The Baylor Scoliosis Center is a special resource for physicians and patients—one that is committed to
innovative treatments for spinal deformity, within the framework of a patient-centered and physicianfriendly atmosphere.
The Center emphasizes continuity of care. Patients of all ages are treated at the Center, from adolescents
to adults, and families whose children are treated at the Center will have the same physicians care for
them once they reach adulthood. This approach allows life long treatment plans to be implemented
without interruption.

Michael F. O’Brien, M.D., medical director of research at the
Baylor Scoliosis Center, is a fellowship-trained and boardcertified orthopaedic surgeon. In his role as medical director
of research, Dr. O’Brien oversees all scoliosis and complex
spine deformity research efforts and studies, including efforts
with other scoliosis and deformity institutions.
Dr. O’Brien has a strong interest in spinal deformity research.
His research accomplishments include 14 published book
chapters and numerous journal articles. He has also presented
his research papers at more than 100 professional meetings.

ScoliScore™ AIS Prognostic Test
What is the Scoliscore AIS Prognostic Test?
ScoliScore™ is a clinically validated, multi-gene test that provides a qualitative and quantitative
assessment of the likelihood of spinal curve progression for patients who have been diagnosed with
Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), the most common type of scoliosis. The ScoliScore™ is leading the
way to individualized scoliosis treatment by providing patient-specific information that is used to help
health care providers personalize treatment plans.

How is the Scoliscore Test Interpreted?
Using a scale of 1 – 200, the risk of progression increases with increasing test score. Given the tightness of
the confidence intervals at the extremes, intervals of group risk were identified as follows:
• In indicated patient with a score in the low risk range of 1 – 50 has a >99% probability that she or he will not experience progression to a severe curve.
• In clinical trial, 75% of the patients tested fell into the low risk category, while 24% were in the intermediate risk group.
• Only 1% fell into the high risk group.
