WISHES
As this is National Volunteers Week I would like to thank all those parent
helpers that assist in our school to support student programs. The main
organisation which supports our school is the P & C Association. Their
guidance and funding assistance are essential for the smooth running of our
school and the donation of time by members is greatly appreciated.
We have parents who regularly listen to students read. A big thank you to;
Chris Lamb, Elizabeth Dempsey, Wendy Mayne, Jacque Hall, Teresa Hall,
Amy McIntosh, Mandy Curtis, Bec Parker and Kate La Fontaine.
We have parents who regularly help in our canteen under the guidance of Mrs
Sue Smith and many parents help with transport on excursions and sporting
events. At our recent school cross country I had more helpers than jobs.
The assistance of volunteers greatly enhances the learning opportunities of our
students and I thank all our volunteers for this.
Students return from Lake Ainsworth
Students travelled to Lennox Head last week. On arrival at Lake Ainsworth
they set up their cabins, played ‘Golden Orb’ in the new stadium, celebrated
Bailey Turner’s birthday and then settled into bed for the night. Every morning
students went on a beach walk, followed by breakfast and daily activities. The
daily activities included: sailing, canoeing, snorkelling, biking riding, archery,
rock climbing and low ropes. Students particularly enjoyed archery and water
activities. Each night students participated in organised activities including:
Golden Orb, County Fair, Mini Olympics and social skills activities.
The weather was fantastic all week. Miss Cole and Mr Porter commented on
the excellent student behaviour and the fact that all students had a go at all
activities. Miss Cole said it was a joy and pleasure to take these students
away.
NAPLAN testing this week
Students in Year 3 and Year 5 have been sitting NAPLAN tests this week. All
tests will be completed today. Students were tested in writing, spelling, reading
and numeracy.
Sporting Events
Our cross country team of 30 students will travel to Tingha next Friday with Mrs
Hancock and Miss Wendt. The Open Primary netball team will play Moree
East Public School in round 1 of the PSSA knockout competition next
Wednesday at 11.00am. We have entered three teams in the Year 3/4
‘Captains Cup’ 7-a-side league and league tag to be held in Moree on
Thursday 31st May. Open Primary league and netball and 3/4 soccer teams
have been entered in the Bingara carnival on Friday 1st June and one boys and
one girls teams (Yrs 5/6) have been entered in the ‘Phil Bailey’ 7-a-side league
and league tag carnival which will be held at Ashford on 12th June.
Mother’s Day Raffle
A mother’s day raffle was drawn on Friday. Prizes were won by Sarah Clark
and Cheyenne Flor. The beautifully handcrafted prizes were donated by
Makayla Brice’s grandmother, Mrs Madeline Butterfield. This donation was
greatly appreciated by our school.
