Rendezvous 2016 - The Great Lakes Cruising Club
Rendezvous 2016
Barker’s Island • Superior, WI
July 16-20
As your Commodore of the Great Lakes Cruising Club, I am pleased to
welcome all members and guests to our 55th consecutive Rendezvous.
We return again to the western end of Lake Superior and the twin ports of
Duluth and Superior. Whether traveling by boat, motor vehicle or plane,
you will be rewarded by a fantastic array of natural beauty of this region.
But that is just the beginning of another opportunity to experience the
very traditional experience of a GLCC social celebration of fellowship,
seminars, culinary delights and tours by land and sea.
While in the area, we hope you will enjoy the friendly community and
area attractions available before during and after the Rendezvous.
Your Rendezvous Committee has worked tirelessly with local officials
and the Chamber of Commerce to provide a memorable experience.
The local folks and especially the staff at Barkers Island Marina have truly
rolled out the “Welcome Mat”.
The Rendezvous is traditionally the largest of the club’s social events and
this year is no exception. I would like to express my deep appreciation
to all who have made it possible this year, including Rear Commodore
Duane Flynn and Immediate Past Commodore Niels Jensen and their
tireless committee members: Director Jim Passe, Director Bill Rohde,
Port Captain Stan Cory, Port Captain Scott Kellet, Port Captain Don
Larson, Port Captains Dave and Donna Steffens, Chuck Wendle and Bob
Hansen along with the known, but not always recognized, spouses.
Please take the opportunity to thank them for their contributions.
Joann and I look forward to meeting all of you, friends, new members and
guests over the next few days of the Rendezvous. Please join us in paying
special attention to our first-time attendees, ensuring they feel welcomed
and included in all the various activities at our 2016 GLCC Rendezvous!
Thank you for what you bring to our club.
Chuck Mead, Commodore
Welcome once again to all braving the waters of Lake Superior to
attend this year’s Great Lakes Cruising Club Annual Rendezvous.
Your committee has tried to provide you with a variety of experiences
which we hope you will enjoy. Duluth Superior has a lot to offer the
traveler. We have attempted to give you at least a touch of what is
available. Something for everyone. This year we are offering a trip
aboard a retired Coast Guard ice breaker restored to its original
operational condition. Enjoy a ride and dinner aboard a historic
excursion train up the north shore for an evening ride. There are
seminars and some of the usual activities you expect at this event, and
so much more. Come spend some extra time with us and maybe check
out the 20 micro breweries in Duluth. There is a special luncheon
prepared for the ladies to enjoy. We are arranging a tour of the Cirrus
aviation facility that many of you enjoyed last time. They are now in
production of their new personal jet, soon to be released. If you have
any questions or needs don’t hesitate to ask one of the friendly
committee members and I’m sure issues will be addressed.
Welcome and have a good time.
Duane and Marlene Flynn
