About the Cover: This photo was taken by Rich Tsai and was reprinted with permission. I happened to see Rich’s photo in
the Jan/Feb issue of the Porsche 356 Registry magazine. Rich stated that if you only noticed the car that you were spending
way too much time in the garage. Rich took the photo at the Niello Porsche concours at Serrano last October. The caption
in the Registry stated: The lady was wearing a Ferrari outfit while detailing a Porsche. Rich gave her grief about that and
she complained to him about not being able to find any “cute” Porsche outfits to wear. He then sent her to the Porsche
Design Store. Thank you Rich for setting her straight and for letting us use your photo. Check out Rich’s website at www.

President’s COLUMN
It’s February, and the end of winter is finally is sight. If you feel
like single digit temperatures
and snow in the forecast sounds
like the end of winter that is!! Our
CIA had its first board meeting
at Old Chicago in Coralville on
Saturday and we have a great
looking schedule coming together for your Porsche Pleasure
in the coming year. We will be
starting in April with a tech session at Stalltech near Wellmen
Iowa, where we will inspect the
inner workings of a 915 5-speed
transmission and install a new
set of syncros. Lee and Neil will
also give a tour of their ongoing
356 restorations. It’s always a
great time to visit their shop and
see the ultimate in 356 restorations. Just remember that there
is about a ¼ mile or so of gravel
road just before you arrive. Final
details and a map to their shop
will be forthcoming. Our May
event will be a return to the St.
Donatus Body & Paint Shop for
their open house and tour. This
is a really fun event because of
all the types of collector cars that
show up. You can expect to see
full classics, hot rods, muscle
cars and, of course, the greatest sports cars in the world. We
are also planning two events
in June in conjunction with the
Schonesland Region with a return to autocrossing at the Marshalltown go-kart track and a
Porsche Paddock for the Indycar
race at Newton Speedway. All of
these plus an ice cream social,
Botham Winery Car Show, Sertoma, Fall Leaf Tour and other
events will make for a great driving season in 2011.
See you on the road.

Two priests died at the same time
and met Saint Peter at the Pearly
Gates.
St. Peter said, “I’d like to get you
guys in now, but our computer’s
down. You will have to go back
to Earth for about a week, but you
can’t go back as priests. What’ll it
be?”
The first priest says, “I’ve always
wanted to be an an eagle, soaring
above the Rocky Mountains .”
“So be it,” says St.. Peter, and off
flies the first priest.
The second priest mulls this over
for a moment and asks, “Will any of
this week ‘count’ St. Peter?” “
“No. I told you, the computer’s
down, there’s no way we can keep
track of what you are doing.”
“In that case” says the second
priest, “I’ve always wanted to be a
stud.”
“So be it” says St. Peter, and the
second priest disappears.
A week goes by, the computer is
fixed, and the Lord tells St. Peter to
recall the two priests..
“Will you have any trouble locating
them?”, He asks.
“The first one should be easy,” says
St. Peter. “He’s somewhere over
the Rockies, flying with the eagles.
But the second one could prove to
be more difficult.”
“Why”, asks the Lord
“He’s on a snow tire, somewhere in
Iowa “

My 9 (of 11) Years of Porsche Parades
By Marisa’s Milavetz
For my whole life I have
been going to the Porsche
parades and have had a
blast at all of them. We usually get a bag full of special
Kid’s Porsche stuff and then
there are planned kid-specific activities, such as the
kid’s autocross, crafts, movies, karaoke, remote control
cars, coloring, slot cars and
drawings. Most places had
swimming pools as well as
other fun activities.
2002 Idaho – This is one of
my favorite memories. I
was 3 and my family wanted me to do the kids autocross. When it was my
turn, my cousin Brain Teresi
strapped me into my stroller
and started pushing me full
speed around the course.
My hair was flying back and
my hands were gripping the
side of the stroller. It was
awesome!
2005 Hershey- We toured
Hershey’s
factory
and
learned how chocolate
was made. We also went to
a pretzel place and made
our own pretzels.
2000 Sacramento- was my
first Parade - I was only one
and I don’t remember anything about it.
2001 Milwaukee- Our friends,
the Asmus family met us
there. They have a daughter
Natalie that is about my age.
The hotel had an awesome
water park, which we spent
tons of time.

They gave us

were “cool”.

additional power in an intelligent
manner. The 911 GT3 R Hybrid
obtains its additional power from
its own vehicle dynamics when
braking. Porsche is now transplanting this technology into the
mid-engine coupé 918 RSR, the
motor sports version of the 918
Spyder concept car.
From the tradition established by
classic Porsche long-distance
race cars such as the 908 longtail coupé (1969) and the 917
short-tail coupé (1971), the
Porsche designers created a
link to the postmodernism of the
“form follows function” philosophy. In the 918 RSR, the lines’ elegant flow is dominated by muscular wheel arches, dynamic air
intakes and a pulpit-like cockpit.

Motor racing technology also
dominates within the particularly
light, torsionally stiff carbon fiberreinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque. The V8 engine is a further development of the direct
injection engine from the successful RS Spyder race car and
now offers an output of precisely
563 hp at 10,300 rpm in the 918
RSR. The electric motors on the
two front wheels each contribute
75 kW, i.e. a total of 150 kW, to
the peak drive power of exactly
767 hp. This additional power,
which is generated during braking, is stored in an optimized flywheel accumulator.
In the 918 RSR, the two electric
motors offer a torque vectoring
function with variable torque distribution to the front axle. This
additionally increases agility and
improves steering response.
Mounted upstream of the rear
axle, the mid-engine is integrated
with a racing transmission also
based on the RS Spyder race
car. This further developed sixspeed constant-mesh transmission with longitudinally mounted
shafts and straight-toothed spur
gears is operated using two shift
paddles behind the racing steering wheel.

The team is still finalizing this already strong line-up in what will
be the team’s fourth entry.

the Porsche feels strangely similar. The Porsche is more nimble, you can carry more speed

The car is easy to drive.”
