It’s fun but a lot of work; expensive but thrilling; exciting but scary as hell on the floor at times; high energy before but sometimes disappointment after. Competition really helped us to improve our dancing skills and our level of comfort dancing in front of people. It also taught us how to communicate and trust each other in a new and different way. Sort of like marriage counseling I always used to say! This month is a busy one as competitors from around the state and country gather in Denver for the annual Colorado Country Classic. This was the event that really got Wayne and I hooked on competing. I remember how awe struck I was watching the competitors in their sparkly outfits, and in those days it was nothing compared to the flashy outfits they wear now! Now that we no longer compete, social dancing is our friend. Our dancing skills can be used for fun and exercise. Hopefully we, and other current/former competitors, provide inspiration and desire for those just stepping onto the dance floor. Social dance is just that – social. There are no pressures, no judges, no right or wrong. Good and bad, definitely, but no wrong. The objective is pure pleasure and what better way to feed your body and soul than with dance. It seems they just glided across the floor and I wanted to dance like that. Where do I sign up? And the workshops – Wayne always said that his head got so full he couldn’t remember anything and even now he and I both feel the same way – overwhelmed at times. Competitive dance or social dance – both are excellent opportunities to meet people, improve your self-esteem, enhance your balance and body tone, and make great friends. Whatever path you choose, I encourage you to dance with your entire being. As the saying goes, “Dance like nobody is watching.” Anyway, we started our adventure. And a great adventure it was. Not easy by any means but a time in our lives that is still special and filled with memories. See you on the dance floor, Rhonda (of Wayne and Rhonda) 3 4 5 June 2007 Sun Mon Tue Wed Thur Fri Sat 1 2 SDC Social Night Lessons at All About Dance (11:00AM–12:00PM) COWBOYS 7PM Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–8:00PM) 3 4 5 6 7 8 Denver Swing Club at the Stampede Denver Swing Club at the Turnvrien Meet at 5:15 behind Wendy’s on N Academy to carpool/rotate driving 10 Meet at 7:15 behind Wendy’s on N Academy to carpool/rotate driving Lessons at All About Dance (6:00PM–9:15PM) 11 Lessons at All About Dance (6:00PM–8:00PM) 12 Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–9:00PM) 13 14 Denver Swing Club at the Stampede Denver Swing Club at the Turnvrien Meet at 5:15 behind Wendy’s on N Academy to carpool/rotate driving 17 Meet at 7:15 behind Wendy’s on N Academy to carpool/rotate driving Lessons at All About Dance (6:00PM–9:15PM) 18 Lessons at All About Dance (6:00PM–8:00PM) 19 Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–9:00PM) 20 Denver Swing Club at the Stampede Meet at 7:15 behind Wendy’s on N Academy to carpool/rotate driving Ballroom Dance 24 Lessons at All About Dance (6:00PM–9:15PM) 25 Lessons at All About Dance (6:00PM–8:00PM) 26 Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–9:00PM) 27 Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–9:15PM) 28 Denver Swing Club at the Stampede Colorado Country Classic (all day/evening) Denver Swing Club at the Country Classic Meet at 7:15 behind Wendy’s on N Academy to carpool/rotate driving Lessons at All About Dance (6:00PM–9:15PM) Lessons at All About Dance (6:00PM–8:00PM) (8:00-11:00 PM) 9 SDC Social Night COWBOYS 7PM Lessons at All About Dance (11:00AM–12:00PM) Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–8:00PM) 15 16 SDC Social Night Lessons at All About Dance (11:00AM–12:00PM) 7PM Dance/Exhibition w/Potluck COWBOYS Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–8:00PM) All About Dance 6:30 PM Potluck 7:00 PM Dance 22 23 Colorado Colorado Colorado Country Classic Country Classic Country Classic (all day/evening) (all day/evening) Club Crawl Meet at 5:15 behind Wendy’s on N Academy to carpool/rotate driving (6:00-9:00 PM) Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–9:15PM) All About Dance 21 Denver Swing Club at the Turnvrien All About Dance Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–9:15PM) Ballroom Dance Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–9:00PM) Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–9:15PM) SDC Social Night COWBOYS 7PM Lessons at All About Dance (11:00AM–12:00PM) Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–8:00PM) 29 30 SDC Social Night COWBOYS 7PM Lessons at All About Dance (11:00AM–12:00PM) Lessons at All About Dance (7:00PM–8:00PM) BOARD MEMBERS and DIRECTORS President Vice President Treasurer Past president and Historian Membership Entertainment Dance Hotline Publicity Calling tree Newsletter Rhonda Bauer Marie Neff David Kitsis John Roff Chuck Rohrer Carole McConnell Kelly Wentling & Martina Retherford Rick Scanlin Ed Bilot open open 6 [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] 660-0467 531-6876 268-0766 380-1675 536-0708 596-4999 391-1361 / 231-5865 548-8133 SPRINGS DANCE CLUB MINUTES May 16, 2007 Meeting called to order at 6:45 Attendees: Rhonda Bauer Chuck Rohrer Kelly Wentling Carole McConnelogue has been released and will not be held.
