It all happens at the DoubleTree Hotel in Denver again this year.
The Club Crawl is Thursday evening with competition, social
dancing and Jack-n-Jill events going throughout the weekend.
This is one of the great dance events that goes on close to home,

fun and dance until your feet ache.

Cinco de Mayo may be a day of celebration for
the Hispanic community, but the Springs
Dance Club sure picked up on the excitement
of the day and held a wonderful celebration of
their own.
More than 75 dancers joined in the party at the
Paragon Ballroom. The ladies came in high
style with sparkles and a variety of fancy
fashion. Not to be outdone, the guys put on
their best apparel and really put on the ritz.

Social Dancing or
Competitive Dancing
Competition isn’t for everyone. It’s fun but a
lot of work; expensive but thrilling; exciting but
scary as hell on the floor at times; high energy
before but sometimes disappointment after.
Competition really helped us to improve our
dancing skills and our level of comfort
dancing in front of people. It also taught us
how to communicate and trust each other in a
new and different way. Sort of like marriage
counseling I always used to say!
This month is a busy one as competitors
from around the state and country gather
in Denver for the annual Colorado Country
Classic. This was the event that really got
Wayne and I hooked on competing. I
remember how awe struck I was watching
the competitors in their sparkly outfits, and
in those days it was nothing compared to
the flashy outfits they wear now!
Now that we no longer compete, social
dancing is our friend. Our dancing skills can
be used for fun and
exercise. Hopefully
we, and other
current/former
competitors, provide
inspiration and desire
for those just stepping
onto the dance floor.
Social dance is just that – social. There are
no pressures, no judges, no right or wrong.
Good and bad, definitely, but no wrong.
The objective is pure pleasure and what
better way to feed your body and soul
than with dance.
It seems they just glided across the floor and
I wanted to dance like that. Where do I sign
up? And the workshops – Wayne always
said that his head got so full he couldn’t
remember anything and even now he and
I both feel the same way – overwhelmed
at times.
Competitive dance or social dance – both
are excellent opportunities to meet people,
improve your self-esteem, enhance your
balance and body tone, and make great
friends. Whatever path you choose, I
encourage you to dance with your entire
being. As the saying goes, “Dance like
nobody is watching.”
Anyway, we
started our
adventure. And a
great adventure it
was. Not easy by
any means but a
time in our lives that
is still special and filled
with memories.
See you on the dance floor,
Rhonda (of Wayne and Rhonda)

CSSC – Colorado State Swing Championships
By separate vehicle, they all made their way
north, traveling I-25 and then conquering Denver
City traffic to make their way East to the Denver
Turnverein. The Turnverein, site of the 2007
Colorado State Swing Championships (CSSC),
was to be the final destination and hang-out for
Saturday April 28th & Sun. April 29th!

2nd Place- Mike Niewoonder & Kelly Wentling
4th Place – Honorable Mention- Jim Sisneros &

WCS Pro-Am Intermediate/Advanced
2nd Place – Carole Newhouse & Manny Viarrial
Individuals from the Colorado Springs Dance Club
(CSDC) that made their way north, included
James A.K.A. Jim Sisneros, Carole Newhouse,
Kay Bryan and Kelly Wentling. These individuals
which represented a mere 0.03% of the entire
Springs Dance Club represented the CSDC well
with five different placements listed below.
Patti Spika and Stacy Giovino, Event Directors,
did a wonderful job organizing the event.
Contests were on time through-out the week-end,
plenty of time was granted for open dancing, we
were treated to a dessert bar on Saturday night
and a great Sandwich buffet on Sunday afternoon.
This is a “backyard” event that you need to
consider for 2008!
