Please see attached photos on page 4. The sport that I learned to love By: Carlos Luis Martinez Taekwondo when I was 4 years old. It has always been my weekend activity. I tried a lot of sports and are still into it, but I just kept on going back to Taekwondo. When people ask me why I am into Taekwondo, my answer would always be…"Taekwondo helps me be humble, disciplined, focused, confident and responsible. During a tournament, when I win I am aware it is because I worked hard for it. While losing gives me a chance to do better next time. I learned to take defeat without shame or regret. It made me realize that I am not the best because others may be better. In Taekwondo, training is important, that is why I make it a point to train every week and to practice very well . Being focused is very important to do the right moves at the right time. Since Taekwondo is also about self-defense , the sport helped me be confident and responsible. I do not use my skill to be boastful but rather I use it to influence others in learning how to defend themselves in case it is needed. Performing in front of many people during a tournament is great experience. Being promoted to a higher belt is always a memorable event and I am looking forward and working hard to wearing the black belt in time. I am very grateful for the skill that God has given to me and I will try best to influence others in a positive way. Carlos Luis Marinez in action. (Continuation of What means to be a GVS teacher…) top priority. A GVSian teacher will hear words like “I can’t.”, in response she’ll say “YOU CAN!” or “I don’t know how?” she’ll reply “Come here, I’LL TEACH YOU HOW…” A GVS teacher will try everything and do whatever it takes- to encourage, motivate, engage, challenge, inspire and instill love for learning… In the heart of every GVS teacher is to enable the child to become much more than he, what he thinks he is capable of. This is GVS teacher at heart. Congratulations to the graduating class of 2013-2014 MRS.
