Page 2 Drive -Up Changes to Moscow Main Branch Recently we purchased the Chevron Station south of the Moscow Main Branch to help increase our visibility and to help keep our Moscow members safe as they enter and exit the parking areas. The current plans call for moving the Drive-Up Teller out onto the newly purchased property, allowing us to expand the lane size and height of the canopy for our members who drive larger vehicles or are towing trailers. It has always been a high risk maneuver to pull around the corner onto Washington and make it into the parking lot. By having the Drive-Up away from the building we are going to change the drive pattern to access it and the surrounding parking area. Plans are also being drawn to give members an access from the north side parking area so you will not have to walk around the building in inclement weather. We will share all the plans with you as soon as we get them put on paper and approved. Newsletter Changes Coming Another change is how we will be communicating with you. You will continue to receive a Quarterly Newsletter but we will be supplementing it with a monthly News Update featured online and through email. If you haven’t given us your email address yet, stop in, call or email us at [email protected] and get on the list. The new format will keep you up to date on all that is happening around your Credit Union in a more timely fashion. That’s a lot of extra cash that can make a big difference in your financial situation. This year, instead of impulse purchases, consider these options: Pay Off Outstanding Credit Cards If you’ve got high interest rate credit cards or loans with outstanding balances, using your tax refund to pay them off can reduce or eliminate future interest charges and free up monthly payments. Alison Harless – Member Service Representative – Moscow Office “I was born in Hemet, California, and have lived here almost 8 years. I love it here – everyone is so nice and knows each other. I graduated from Moscow High School in 2012. I have been working here for about a month, dealing with customers and working with money. I have learned so much just by being here a short time!” Avoid Pitfalls Down the Road Is there car or home maintenance repairs you’ve been putting off? Using your tax refund money now may end up saving you a bundle later. Save for a Rainy Day Start or add to an emergency fund with a Latah FCU Savings or Money Market Account, and you’ll avoid running up credit card balances for unexpected expenses Start or Add to an IRA for 2014 Latah offers a full range of Traditional and Roth IRA options that can help you save for future retirement or education expenses. Plus, you may be able to reduce your tax bill for 2014 (please consult your tax advisor for details). Should You Co-Sign for a Loan? Things to Know Before You Sign on the Dotted Line… Certain financial situations can make it difficult to get loan. A person may not have any credit history, or they may be trying to get back on their feet after unforeseen circumstances like a job loss. In these cases, a family member or close friend may ask you to co-sign. Before you sign on the dotted line, it’s important to remember that you will be responsible for making payments if the borrower fails to do so. Any loans you co-sign for will also appear on your credit history, including information on missed or late payments. If you do decide to co-sign, it’s a good idea to only do so for short-term loans, not long-term obligations like private student loans, mortgages or business loans. The longer the term of the loan, the more risk there is of default. If you are considering co-signing on a loan, a Latah FCU loan representative would be happy to discuss your particular situation and other options that may be available. Neighbor to neighbor Anastasia Orr – Member Service Representative – Moscow Office “I was born and raised in Twin Falls, Idaho. I moved to Moscow to attend the University of Idaho, majoring in child development. Helping children and pottery have always been passions of mine so one day I plan on opening my own art therapy office. I have been with Latah FCU for a few weeks and I am currently a part-time teller. I also work part-time at Moscow Pizza Hut as a shift manager. I love being in the customer service industry where I meet new people every day!” Courtney Wallen – Member Service Representative – Moscow Office “I was born in Couer D’Alene, Idaho and moved to Moscow when I was very young. I am a student at the University of Idaho, and will be graduating in May with a Sociology degree. I have two dogs that live at my parents’ house, Kiya and Bella, who are my little babies. I played volleyball throughout high school and I miss the sport very much. My favorite kinds of music are hip-hop, rap and R&B.” Page 3 Mark Your Calendar for LATAH FCU’s Annual Meeting June 26, 2014 This year the annual meeting will be held on Thursday, June 26th at 6:00 p.m. at the Moscow Main Branch located at 912 S.
