Recognizing Blue-Lodge Leadership
If you’ll serve in the East, we’ll serve you a feast
The Valley of Cincinnati will host two separate recognition dinners for Worshipful Masters who
are elected and installed to serve within the Valley’s jurisdiction in 2015. This event is to honor
the leaders of Blue Lodge Masonry in our Valley.
Each Worshipful Master will receive an invitation at their Convocation of Past Masters on
Saturday, December 6, 2014. These Worshipful Masters and their spouses or significant others
will be invited to join the Valley of Cincinnati for a wonderful meal, where each Worshipful
Master will receive the traditional lapel pin for the year 2015.
The first dinner will be on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cincinnati Masonic Center. The second will take place at the Ribber House in Portsmouth, OH on Sunday,
January 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.
Douglas A. Sunnenberg, Most Wise Master of Cincinnati Chapter of Rose Croix, has been
leading the charge with this program to strengthen the ties between our Valley and Blue Lodge
Masons. The Valley’s board of trustees couldn’t agree more with the idea and the approach
we’re taking.
Reservations for these private events are necessary. Please consult your invitation for additional details. The Valley of Cincinnati looks forward to these enjoyable evenings of fellowship,
fraternity, and food.

Valley of Cincinnati Swings into the Spring 2015 Reunion
Join us on April 12 for the one and only Cincinnati Reds Class
The 2014 Major League Baseball Season is now complete, with the San Francisco Giants beating the Kansas City Royals in the 2014 World
Series, 4 games to 3. The 2015 MLB season should be exciting for the City of Cincinnati.
The season will start with Opening Day on April 6, 2015 as the Reds will play host to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Opening Day is always a
special event in Cincinnati as the new season is ushered in. We are all hopeful the Reds will bounce back from 2014 and fight for supremacy in
Major League Baseball next season. Cincinnati will also host the 2015 MLB All Star Game on July 14, 2015 at Great American Ball Park. In
conjunction with the All Star game is the MLB Futures Game and the Legends/Celebrity Softball Game on July 12, 2015; as well as the MLB
Home Run Derby on July 13, 2015.
Next season will be the fifth time the All Star Game has been played in Cincinnati. Crosley Field hosted the game on July 6, 1938 and July
14, 1953; while Riverfront Stadium hosted the game on July 14, 1970 and July 12, 1988. Who will ever forget the image of Pete Rose colliding
with Ray Fosse to score the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning of the 1970 All Star Game?
The team is also planning an event to commemorate the 25 Anniversary of the 1990 World Champion Cincinnati Reds. This team was led
by their fiery manager, Lou Piniella, and his staff. Members of the team included Chris Sabo; Paul O’Neill; Billy Hatcher; Jose Rijo; the Nasty
Boys; as well as local players like Ron Oester (Withrow H.S.); Bill Doran (Mt. Healthy); Todd Benzinger (New Richmond); and Hall of Famer
Barry Larkin (Moeller H.S.). This team led the National League West wire to wire, from Opening Day to the end of the season. The team then
met the NL East Champion Pittsburgh Pirates in the Playoffs.
After defeating the Pirates in six games, the Reds went on to sweep the mighty Oakland Athletics in four games! This marks the last Reds
team to date to be World Champions. A little closer to home, the Valley of Cincinnati is planning to honor the Cincinnati Reds and commemorate the team history by making the Spring Class the Cincinnati Reds Class. The event will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2015. Plans for the
2015 Spring Reunion are still being finalized, so stay tuned to future issues of The Rite Recorder for more details. Mark your calendar now to join
us for what should prove to be an inspirational, convenient, and enjoyable event!

Holiday in Voices: Fun for the Family
The event is open to members and guests at no charge
This year’s Holiday in Voices celebration features “Brother Heinrich’s Christmas,” a classic fable that
tells the story of a monk who, according to legend, notated the carol In dulci jubilo after it had been
sung to him by a band of angels. He is unexpectedly aided to finish it by Sigismund, his donkey The
fable is set to music by John Rutter, a renowned composer.
According to the Oxford University Press, Rutter was born in London in 1945 and studied
music at Clare College, Cambridge. His compositions embrace choral, orchestral, and instrumental
music, and he has co-edited various choral anthologies, including four “Carols for Choirs” volumes
with Sir David Willcocks and the Oxford Choral Classics series. From 1975-1979, he was director
of music at Clare College, and in 1981 formed his own choir, the Cambridge Singers.
Holiday in Voices will include a vocal quintet that will perform Christmas songs. Stop by before the show for a display of Department 56 Christmas Village Cottages, pictures with Santa (free
of charge), and holiday refreshments. The doors open at 2:00 p.m. The show starts at 3:00 p.m. It is
open to all members and their guests. The show is appropriate for children of all ages. Free parking
at the Chiquita Center is available with a current Scottish Rite Dues card.
