The Greatest Gifts
Heartfelt thanks in words and pictures.
There are no words to express our gratitude to you for your participation and
commitment to the 2013 Operation Stocking Stuffer Toy Drive.
On behalf of the nearly 4,000 men and women of the Houston Fire Department, please accept our
deepest, heartfelt thanks to you, all of your employees, vendors, customers and volunteers who made
the 2013 Operation Stocking Stuffer Toy Drive such an incredible success.
Sincerely,
Terry Garrison
Fire Chief, Houston Fire Department
Our Heartfelt Thanks!!!
T
he greatest gifts are always those given from the
heart. A toy might seem like just a plastic action
figure or a stuffed animal but to a child in need it
means so much more. It can mean hope to child who lives
everyday under the poverty line-Hope that there are people out there who really do care and want to make a difference. It may restore faith to a child-Faith in a system where
they are not forgotten. A toy may make the love between
a parent and child stronger-The love parents show their
children by waiting in line for hours just to receive a bag
of toys for Christmas. No, it is not just a toy. To a family in
need it represents hope, faith and love...and those are the
greatest gifts of all.
During the duration of the 2013 Houston Fire Department’s Operation Stocking Stuffer Toy Drive, thousands
of Houstonians gave from their hearts. It is estimated that
close to 400,000 toys were collected and distributed by the
end of the toy drive which is a new record for this event.
1,890 families received toys just at our annual giveaway on
December 20th. Hundreds of other families received their
toys through other non-profit agencies supported by Operation Stocking Stuffer.
National and local corporations, area small businesses, restaurants and schools hosted their own toy drives and fund
raisers to assist Operation Stocking Stuffer. Hundreds
of caring citizens volunteered to collect, sort and distribute all of these toys. While even more offered storage and
transportation services, promoted the event and provided
meals to the scores of hungry volunteers. It was truly a
team effort like no other.
On behalf of everyone at the Houston Fire Department,
I want to offer our heartfelt thanks to each and every one
of you who were there for Houston’s neediest children. I
would also like you to reflect on the positive impact you
had on thousands of children who, without your help,
would not have had a Christmas. You are the embodiment
of the Christmas Spirit. The members of the Houston Fire
Department all know that we could not succeed without
your support and assistance.
We look forward to working with all of you for an even
bigger and better 2014 Operation Stocking Stuffer.
Sincerest thanks to all of you,
Paul
