Carex `Evergold` (Sedge)
Carex ‘Evergold’
‘Evergold’ is evergreen. Not actually a grass,
but grass-like in appearance. (Sedges have
triangular blades where grasses are flat.)
White stripes in the center with dark green
edges will brighten up any shade garden.
‘Evergold’ stays short which allows it to act
as a ground cover under large shrubs or taller perennials. Proper maintenance includes
pruning to two inches in early March before
new growth begins. A weed whip can speed
up the process, though not entirely earthfriendly. Water well before winter to avoid
drying before spring. In the absence of
snow, mulch lightly around the base.
