july 2016 Message From Mayor Frank A. Pasquale It’s summertime in Bellwood again, and every year that means a number of fun and enjoyable events and activities are coming up in the village for our residents and business owners. It’s also a time for each of us to be safe and to pay careful attention to our youth who are playing all around town. First, I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended the village’s Memorial Day Celebration that gave us all an opportunity to say thank you to the men and women who selflessly served our country. I trust everyone had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July holiday, which is the time to celebrate America’s independence. And as August continues to approach, don’t forget to mark your calendar for two great events: first, our residents will have a great time at the fun, food-filled Annual Family Day Picnic on Aug. 6. Second, I encourage all parents and guardians to register their children to come to the Ronald McDonald Mobile Unit on Aug. 12 to benefit from onthe-spot medical screenings and advice. Have a great, safe summer! Summer Youth Work Program Kicks Off T he village kicked off its Summer Youth Work Program on June 13 by providing more than 27 teens ages 14-16 with a leg up in the job market. Village Clerk Lena M. Moreland coordinates the program that is supported by five supervisors who gather Monday – Friday in front of the village hall at 9 a.m. for roll call with the youth. They are transported to various locations throughout town on the Youth Program bus to paint curbs and beautify Bellwood.
