Description
Duvals Farmhouse is an delightful Grade II listed house with timber frame
and weather boarding under a plain tiled roof. The house dates back to
the 16th century, possibly earlier, with hall house origins and alterations
c1670 and early 19th Century. The house in its present form was almost
certainly built for or by John Deval (from the French ‘Dervale’) in the early
1640’s around a much older hall house.
Enjoying a secluded, yet not isolated setting, with pretty gardens and
grounds, this charming property has many period features. The family
accommodation is arranged over three floors and points of note include:
• Exposed beams and timbers including several mullion windows and
a 7 light range to 1st floor, polished brick flooring and two stone fire
surrounds with simple chamfers.
• The inter-connecting reception rooms provide excellent areas for
entertaining and comprise sitting/dining room with wood burning
stove and drawing room with fireplace and French doors opening onto
the terrace and garden.
• Well proportioned kitchen/breakfast room with cream fitted units, Aga,
electric hob, space for dishwasher and stable door also opening onto
the terrace and garden.
• The first floor, which can be accessed by two separate staircases,
has master bedroom with built-in cupboards and en suite bathroom,
two further bedrooms with built-in cupboards and ‘Jack and Jill’
bathroom.
• Two separate staircases lead to the attic with two further bedrooms,
each with built-in cupboards, and a ‘Jack and Jill’ bathroom with
further storage.
• The annexe is single storey with open plan kitchen/sitting room,
bedroom and shower room with night storage heating.
Outbuildings, Gardens & Grounds
• Duvals Farmhouse is approached from a quiet country lane, through
double wooden gates onto a gravel driveway with central island,
ample parking and triple bay garage to the right of the house.
• The delightful garden consists of lawns and well stocked borders
with various shrubs, yew tree garden, mature trees, a pond and
stream, and an enclosed vegetable garden. There is a substantial
summerhouse with power and light connected, which could also be
used as an external office. There are two further garden sheds for
storage.
• Another 17 acres of land are available consisting of paddocks
currently down to pasture.
