David Andersen
Athlete Biography
David Andersen will earn a slice of history in Rio by becoming one of only eight Australian men’s
basketballers to appear at four Olympic Games.
The 7-footer from Melbourne began playing basketball at Frankston East Primary School and after
impressing in the junior ranks moved to Canberra to join the AIS. He would join the Wollongong
Hawks in the NBL for a season before beginning to play in Italy.
After breaking into the senior national side in 2003 he made his Olympic debut at the 2004 Athens
Games where Australia 㜭㩦nished ninth. He would play the majority of the next four years in Russia,
where he won three national titles and two Euroleague Championships, before moving on to play
for Barcelona. He would again be a part of the Australian side that competed at the Beijing 2008
Games where the side 㜭㩦nished in 7th.
His superb form did not go unnoticed with the Houston Rockets trading for him and then buying
out his Barcelona contract after a decade in Europe. He made his NBA debut in 2009 and went on
to play 103 games in the NBA with the Rockets, the Toronto Raptors and the New Orleans Hornets
across two seasons.
With Andrew Bogut on the sidelines, Andersen became the starting centre for the Australian side
and went on to produce his best Games performance at London 2012 averaging 12 points and 6
rebounds in just over 25 minutes per game. The Aussies were eventually knocked out of the
competition by the US side in the quarter-㜭㩦nals. He has since played in Italy, Turkey and won the
2016 French title with ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne.

Andrew Bogut
Athlete Biography
Andrew Bogut will return to Olympic competition having missed out on the London 2012 Games
due to a shoulder injury. Bogut was a key part of the Australian teams in Athens and Beijing that
䘀쐂nished 9th and 7th respectively.
The seven footer began playing basketball in Melbourne before moving to Canberra where he
attended the Australian Institute of Sport. He impressed on the international stage at the 2003
FIBA Under-19 World Championship when he led the Australian team to gold and was voted the
MVP of the tournament.
After a stellar three years at Utah College, Bogut was the number one draft pick in the 2005 NBA
draft where he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks. After seven seasons with the side, which
included leading the league in blocks in 2011, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors.
He helped the Oakland based side to their 䘀쐂rst NBA Championship in 40 years in 2015 when the
Warriors defeated Bogut’s Australian teammate Matt Dellavedova’s Cleveland Cavaliers to be
crowned NBA champions. He would return home to ensure Australia quali䘀쐂ed for Rio by helping
the side take out the 2015 Oceania Championships.
The Melburnian’s success continued in the 2015-16 season with the Warriors breaking the NBA
regular seasons win record after 䘀쐂nishing with 73 wins and just 9 losses. Bogut’s side again made
the Finals but this time fell to Dellavedova’s Cavaliers in seven games. Shortly after the season he
was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

Chris Goulding
Athlete Biography
Sharp shooter Chris Goulding will get his chance to represent Australia at his 湩慴rst Olympic Games
in Rio after a strong couple of seasons has seen him become a key contributor for the national side.
The Tasmanian shooting guard has spent the majority of his career in the NBL, winning a
championship in the 2007 season with the Brisbane Bullets before excelling in recent years in
Melbourne. After being the NBL’s highest scorer for the Tigers in 2014 the door opened to playing
in Europe.
He was signed by Zaragoza in the Spanish League for the 2014/15 season and then returned to
Australia to help the national side qualify for Rio 2016 by winning the 2015 Oceania
Championships. In limited game time in the green and gold his deadly accuracy was on show as he
hit six of his seven shots as he scored 12points across the two game series.
If there were any doubters, Goulding’s 2015/16 season for Melbourne United would have silenced
them quickly. He led the side to the grand 湩慴nal having scored 18 points, grabbed four rebounds
and dished out three assists a match throughout the year.
His stellar season in the NBL saw him signed by Auxilium Torino in the Italian Serie A ensuring he
had plenty of game time between the end of the NBL and the start of Rio 2016.

Damian Martin | AUS Team | Rio 2016
Oꊜ믩cial Home of the 2016 Australian Olympic Team
Damian Martin
Athlete Biography
Over a decade after captaining the Australian U19 team to the gold medal at the 2003 World
Championships, Damian Martin will get his ㌫눟rst shot at Olympic competition in Rio.
After the U19 success he headed to the US in 2003 where he would spend the next four years
playing for college side Loyola Marymount. The point guard returned to Australia to play with the
West Sydney Razorbacks and Sydney Spirit in the NBL and would go on to make his senior national
debut at the 2009 Oceania Championships.
Martin made the move the Perth Wildcats for the 2009-10 season and has enjoyed plenty of
success since. He was a part of the 2010 championship winning team before 2011 saw him named
in the All-NBL ㌫눟rst team and started a run of ㌫눟ve consecutive seasons where he was named the
best defensive player in the competition. He is largely recognised as the best defensive player the
NBL has ever seen.
After ㌫눟nishing runner-up with the Wildcats in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons he helped the side
to again win the title in 2014. He proved he was still one of the nation’s best backcourt players by
winning the 2016 Grand Final MVP in the Wildcats 2-1 series victory over the New Zealand
Breakers.
Having just missed out on selection for the London 2012 Games, Martin also missed out on the
2015 Oceania Championships after being injured in the lead up to the Rio quali㌫눟cation series. His
strong 2016 season and defensive prowess helped ensure the veteran will become an Olympian in
Rio.
