This year kicked off

and volunteers in the construction of seven new
homes. This accomplishment marked some pretty
impressive milestones.

Along with these sponsors, hundreds of volunteers
from all over the city and around the country
made these homes possible, and we are grateful for
everyone who took part. Together we have helped
achieve the most important milestone of all – seven
new families moving into their first home.
Since he began building with us 20 years ago,
Clark and his partners have built 61 Habitat homes,
and all before his 60th birthday! The completion
of these homes also marks Cox Enterprises’ 20th
and 21st Atlanta Habitat homes, earning the
company a spot on our coveted Sponsor Wall of
Fame. And lastly, these seven houses complete
Atlanta Habitat’s newest subdivision on the aptly
named Clark Howard Lane – a cul-de-sac of 13
Atlanta Habitat homes near the soon-to-be
redeveloped Ft. McPherson.
Clark welcomed three new sponsors this year –
Atlanta-based MailChimp, which sponsored two
homes, Charles Schwab, and Signature FD.

Leadership’s Report
Atlanta Habitat is in full swing in our new
headquarters and Family Support Center at
824 Memorial Drive, SE in Reynoldstown!
We have settled in but have certainly not
slowed down!
We kicked off 2015 building with Clark
Howard in the Howard Point subdivision,
named in honor of Clark and his wife, Lane.
In partnership with Cox Enterprises, other
sponsors, and hundreds of volunteers, Clark
led the completion of the cul-de-sac, which
now boasts 13 beautiful, energy-efficient
homes. We are grateful to all the Clark Howard
build sponsors and volunteers for their generosity in helping seven new
families build and buy their first home this year.
Speaking of volunteers, Atlanta Habitat celebrated all of the volunteers who
support our mission at the annual Appreciation Event in April. We honored
several outstanding volunteers whose many years of service have made a
tremendous impact on affordable housing in Atlanta. We simply could not
do all that we do without our volunteer force. Look inside for information
on all the winners of our Volunteers of the Year.
Two of our longtime build sponsors Peachtree Presbyterian Church and the
Marist Women Build reached milestones in their support of Atlanta Habitat.
Peachtree Presbyterian became our first faith-based sponsor to participate
in a blitz build, constructing a home in seven consecutive days. The women
of Marist completed their 15th home in partnership with a qualified,
working family. Check out the complete stories of these special sponsors.
We hope you have had the opportunity to visit our brand new ReStore
at 271 Chester Avenue, SE – our retail outlet store that sells new and
gently-used merchandise. All net proceeds from the ReStore go directly
to our affordable housing mission. The ReStore has been in high gear
with special events, and our sales have increased thanks to the support
of our shoppers and donors. The ReStore provides a unique but critical
revenue stream for Atlanta Habitat, while also helping to divert hundreds
of tons of waste from the landfill.
When you see our donor list inside this issue, you will be amazed at all
of the organizations and people it takes to help us deliver our mission
and serve more families. We are humbled by this outstanding support.
Lastly, we would be remiss if we did not give our thanks and appreciation
to Larrie Del Martin, our longtime president and CEO who retired at the end
of March. Larrie Del’s commitment to bettering our city’s neighborhoods
and improving the lives of hardworking families will continue to inspire us.

Marist Women Build 15th House
Since they drove the first nail on March 21, close to 300
women had a hand in building the 15th Marist Women
Build (MWB) house alongside the Stafford family.

celebrated Mother’s Day weekend

Exciting Things Are Happening at the ReStore
It has been such an exciting spring
season at the ReStore. Since the
beginning of 2015, generous
donations have been provided by
individual families as well as large
corporations. Items included the
“usual” things such as: sofas, armoires,
cabinets, and doors. But, in the past
few months, some unique items have
arrived as well. You could walk into the
ReStore showroom and see a towering
vintage organ, large quantities of
trees and flowers, a tall lamp in
the shape of a human, or possibly
hundreds of pieces of artwork. You
never know what you will find!
One special donation included an
antique Minton china set with the
Bellemeade pattern. A customer
was wowed and explained that this
particular pattern was her wedding
china 30 years ago, but the dishes
had been discontinued. She was
immediately able to add these to her existing set.
Another exciting event that took place this spring was
the first D.I.Y. workshop in the new ReStore. Karen
Cooper, with the blog “Dogs Don’t Eat Pizza,” led a

class on how to give new life to old
chairs. She guided over 25 customers
in how to sand, paint, and reupholster
wooden chairs. In her teaching, she
revealed that she recently used
ReStore doors to create a headboard
for her guest room bed. The customers
discussed ideas on how to repurpose
windows, desks, and shutters. Sign

As the ReStore closed out the
spring season, staff said farewell
to Atlanta Habitat President and
CEO Larrie Del Martin. Before she
retired on March 31, the ReStore
held a special presentation for her.
Martin spent much of her final
years at Atlanta Habitat planning
specific details for the new facility.
Because of her efforts, the ReStore
now has significantly more
storage room with a mezzanine level - a dream come
true for the ReStore. From now on, this will be known
as the “Martin Mezzanine.” Thank you for a great
start to 2015!

Clark Howard Society Event
Atlanta Habitat held its seventh annual Clark Howard Society
event on April 29 to celebrate donors who make significant
gifts to end substandard housing throughout our city. Bill
and Judy Vogel graciously hosted the event at their home.
This year marks Clark’s 60th Habitat house, and during the
program, he spoke of the incredible men, women, and children
he has met over the past 20 years of partnering with Atlanta
Habitat. He explained, “Folks come out year after year to help
build homes for people they have never met before. It is
absolutely incredible. And our homeowners are some of the
very hardest working people I know.”

Peachtree Presbyterian Blitz Build
Peachtree Presbyterian’s commitment toward Atlanta
Habitat shined throughout the week with several
volunteers taking time off work to volunteer on
weekdays so that the house would be finished on time.
In 2014, Peachtree Presbyterian Church sponsored
their 150th Habitat home, becoming the first sponsor
to do so. This year, Peachtree Presbyterian had yet
another first with Atlanta Habitat.
In April, they became the first faith-based
organization to participate in a blitz build. Over the
course of seven consecutive build days, beginning
on Saturday, April 25 and ending the following
Saturday, May 2, more than 275 Peachtree Presbyterian
volunteers worked tirelessly to build a new home with
the Thurston family.
There was tangible excitement in the air as volunteers
and Ms. Thurston witnessed the construction of
the home progress day by day. Thanks to OxBlue
Corporation, a time-lapse video recorded the
construction process, and volunteers were able to
watch a streaming video of each build day on both
Atlanta Habitat’s and Peachtree Presbyterian’s websites.
Finally, after seven long days of laboring in the heat,
Peachtree Presbyterian and Atlanta Habitat dedicated
the home to Ms. Thurston and her family in a touching
ceremony. The volunteers felt accomplished after
successfully completing the blitz build challenge and
achieving something incredible as a church community.
Most importantly, Peachtree Presbyterian members
felt proud to have provided funding, volunteers,
prayers, and hope for 151 homeowners in the city
of Atlanta over the past 29 years.
