THE GREAT BEASTS OF MATA NUI

Long ago, the island of Mata Nui was a tropical paradise. The great beasts called Rahi worked along with the
Tohunga peasants. Then Makuta came, and Darkness covered Earth. Makuta bewitched the Rahi, and they started
searching for the sacred Kanohi masks. And the Turaga made inscriptions on the cliffs to warn of these dangerous
beasts.
In these dark days the Rahi accepted the Toa without due respect. The Rahi even started duels with each
other, such was the bewitchment...
The Muaka, a giant cat, scoured the jungle in search of the masks. The quick and mighty Kane-Ra bull
roamed the plains. The merciless Nui-Rama swarm flew about hunting the Kanohi...
The Nui-Jaga could hide behind any stone, preparing to pounce...
The horrible Tarakava could hide in any lake...
And in the depths of the underground caves lived the most fearsome beast - the Manas...
The mighty Rahi had to give up their masks so the Toa could complete their search and restore Light to Mata
Nui.
