Keeping carts on the paths within 50 yards of the green, filling in divots with sand and fixing ball marks. One of the major reason for the grass to lay flat during the cooler months is due to cart tires rolling the blades of grass. This type of motion flattens the grass which makes the short game shots more difficult. TITLEIST & CALLAWAY CLUBS AND MUCH MORE Jennifer So while it's true that Thanksgiving only comes but once a year, we should actually celebrate thanks each and every day. It's just a matter of learning to live with a spirit of gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving 5 News from WIC Tennis Association “Tennis Shorts” Did you know? 30% of all tennis players will suffer some sort of tennis injury each year. With people playing tennis longer and longer, this statistic is likely to rise annually. The most common injuries associated with tennis are rotator cuff (shoulder tendonitis), tennis elbow, wrist strains, hand pains and knee pains. What’s the best thing you can do to avoid these injuries? Warm up! Not only do muscles “work better” once you’ve increased the temperature in them, but a warm up also increases blood flow and oxygen to the muscles, improving the speed of nerve impulses and increasing your range of motion at the joints. A good warm up should be a gentle jog ( or other form of pulse raiser) as well as dynamic or active stretching drills and tennis specific exercises. Your warm up should last between 15 and 30 minutes and the effects will wear off after 30 minutes, so don’t start too soon. Proper equipment and technique also make a huge difference If you’re feeling some aches and pains, check with Amy or Alan in the Tennis Shop. New shoes, new racquets or even some new techniques can all make a difference in how you feel on and off the court. Tennis News Rita Wilhelm It has been a very busy Fall Season at the courts with Savannah Tennis League matches on Thursdays in divisions in C2, C1, B2, B1, A2 and A1 in the Westin/WIC A1 Team. We have also been hosting USTA teams in the new 40+ age group, as well as the original Adult/18+ Saturday Leagues, Mixed Doubles and will begin play in the Seniors’ 55+ Division the first week of November. Be sure to reserve courts early if you plan to play because league matches and practices are happening quite frequently. Call Amy or Alan in the Tennis Shop if you are interested in joining a tem or want to schedule a lesson or hitting session with the “best pros in town”! Don’t forget our “gentle reminders… ~Call ahead for court reservations. 897-0332 ~ All guests MUST be signed in. ~ Please adhere to proper etiquette and clothing. ~Please turn off the lights if you are the last to leave. ~Please notify the Tennis Office of any change in phone number, mailing or email address. 6 November 2012 Sun Mon Tue Wed Golf Course and Club House are closed on Mondays. 4 5 6 Taste of Italy 7 Quesadilla Special Tennis Facility and Fitness Center are open.
