Fittingly, the 1993 Independence Bowl marked the start of Tech’s string of bowl appearances under Coach Frank Beamer, who will be coaching his final game on the Hokie sideline in this special event. Kickoff is set for 5:45 pm ET at Independence Stadium against the Tulsa Hurricane. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN. We hope you can follow Coach Beamer and his team to Shreveport for this historic occasion, but if you cannot, remember to follow the action on the Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network. The Hokies have come a long way since then, and, along the way, Beamer has become one of the most respected and successful coaches on the college football scene. As he completes his 29th and final campaign 4 in Blacksburg, Beamer is the winningest active coach in the FBS with 279 career wins. Under Beamer, Tech football has enjoyed unprecedented success with 23 consecutive bowl appearances, four ACC titles, five ACC Coastal Division crowns, three BIG EAST Conference titles, six BCS appearances, two “major” bowl victories and a trip to the national championship game. Under his guidance, the Hokies have finished in the Top 20 in 16 of the past 23 seasons, including four top10 finishes during the past 12 years.
