CENTRAL HAYWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
Letter from the Principal
To the Graduating Class of 2016:
I would like to commend the Central Haywood Class of 2016 for successfully completing the requirements for graduating. Each of
you have worked hard and earned the right to be graduates from Central Haywood High School. You have accomplished so much as
students in Haywood County and the faculty of Central Haywood, your parents, family and friends are so proud of you.
Education is a lifelong endeavor and I encourage you to continue. Whether it be Community College, University, Armed Forces,
or work; never stop learning. Never let anyone take the opportunity away from you to learn. You are wonderful young adults and I
know that each of you will be successful. You have worked so hard to earn this distinction.
I have truly been blessed to be a part of your life this past year and I, along with the faculty of Central Haywood, wish you the very
best. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.”
I encourage you to blaze your own path!
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner
voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” - Steve Jobs

CENTRAL HAYWOOD HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR QUOTES
Natosha Davis – My most memorable high
school memory will be the graduation ceremony. Words of Wisdom: There is nothing
terribly wrong with feeling lost as long as
there is a plan on your part to do something
about it. Don’t wear your discomforts like a
favorite T-Shirt. Anyone can feel displeased
where their life is right now, but looking forward to the possibilities it can go in should
make one happy.
Colby Franklin – “A most memorable time
was fixing Brandon’s power steering line in
the school parking lot” Words of Wisdom –
“Go to school!”
Brandon Houck – “Fixing power steering line
in the school parking lot” Words of Wisdom:
“Don’t take the curves at 90 MPH!”
William Howell – “I have so many I cannot
choose just one best memory…there was
a multitude of great memories!” Words of
Wisdom – Eat 2 bowls of Lucky Charms
every morning.
Nicole McElreath – “The best memory was
when the entire school went to volunteer at
The Pathway Center. It was fun and for such
an important cause.”Words of Wisdom – “Get
to bed early and don’t miss school unless
absolutely necessary”
MacKenzie Moffitt - “My best moments were
being thankful for Mr. Haney while he was here
and reading with special needs kids with the
FCCLA club this year” Words of Wisdom – ‘Let
yourself feel good about learning every day;
don’t be lazy’
Joelle Monson – “Best memories were going to
the NC Mtn. State Fair each fall and our work in
the greenhouse” Words of Wisdom - ‘Take life
one day at a time’
Kathy Moon – “My best memory is working
in the school greenhouse.”
Anthony Osborne – “The best thing about
high school was being with my friends and
playing my guitar at music club.”
Tristan Stamper – “Being given another
chance after thinking it best to quit school,
thanks, Mr. Haney” Words of Wisdom; “No
matter what you do, don’t stop believing in
better times and brighter days”
Patrick Stepp – “ I loved when we went to
the Mtn. State Fair, but enjoyed volunteering
at The Pathway Center even more” Words
of Wisdom – Do not think of dropping out
of school, high school is the defining time of
your life; don’t mess with that. Look at the
bright side of things and keep trying for your
best.

HAYWOOD EARLY COLLEGE
Letter from the Principal
Dear Graduates,
Congratulations to the 2015-2016 graduating class of Haywood Early College. I have been impressed and inspired by your commitment and dedication. Your educational experience is not ending, but expanding exponentially. The time spent at Haywood Early
College as high school students and as college students has given you the ability to reach your loftiest dreams. Do not limit yourselves!
Your opportunities are unlimited! Dream big, work hard, and remember that you are prepared and ready for anything.
Throughout your school career you have heard about how the choices that you make will affect your future. You have made good
choices and you are reaping the benefits of your good choices. On May 13, you will have received a high school diploma, and a two
year transferrable degree. The time spent taking community college classes will boost your ability to your four-year degree, Associates
of Arts degree, or some of you will earn an advanced degree laden with college course credits.
I would like to quote Steve Jobs: “the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see
things differently — they’re not fond of rules. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you
can’t do is ignore them because they change things.” I like this quote because you are the change that is coming.
Parents, Guardians, Family members: Thank you for supporting your child throughout their school experience. Graduation is a day
of celebration and without family it would not be possible. Graduates, make a stand for what is right, make good choices, and go
change the world. It has been an honor to serve as your principal this school year. I have truly been blessed.
Sincerely,
Jeff Haney
Congratulations Madison

A Letter from the Head of School
May 16, 2016
Congratulations graduates! You have persevered and successfully completed the first step in your formal
education!
It has been our joy to watch God at work in each of your lives as He has molded and transformed you into
young women and men that He can use for His glory. You have honored Him by pursuing excellence in your
studies and your future is now awaiting you!
May you seek God rather than men, may you find riches in Christ Jesus rather than the wealth of this world,
and may you find God’s calling and purpose on your life and pursue it passionately and unapologetically.
Again, congratulations! Once embraced as children, now released as leaders!

TUSCOLA HIGH SCHOOL
Letter from the Principal
To the Tuscola High School Graduating Class of 2016:
It is my distinct honor to congratulate you on your graduation from Tuscola High School. I am so very proud of all of the hard
work and dedication that you have exhibited over the last four years on “the hill”. As you well know – we don’t simply hand out high
school diplomas. They must be earned – and you have earned yours. Your diploma is not something that you should accept, pack
away in a box somewhere, and then forget about. It is a document that carries with it my endorsement as well as the endorsement
of more than 100 other Tuscola staff and faculty members who have been a part of your journey. We want you to know that we will
remember you. We want you to know that your diploma represents a small part of each of us that you can carry with you. From the
bus driver who brought you safely to school for so many years, to the English teacher who helped make poetry meaningful in your
life, to the cafeteria lady who served you a warm meal and gave you a smile free of charge every day you ate with us – you carry a
piece of each and every one of us on “the hill” that is embedded within the fibers of the diploma that you have earned.
While we celebrate, this year, the 50 years that Tuscola High School has served this great community, I hope that you will
honor those Tuscola graduates who have come before you. But just as importantly, I encourage you to honor the very meaning of the
word “Tuscola” — which can be translated to “digging in many places”, from its Cherokee origin. I often times remind our students
and community of the meaning of this word, “Tuscola”, because I believe it truly captures the spirit of the Mountaineer, the one who
hunkers down when things gets tough, the one who is not afraid to climb the highest peaks, the one who continually searches and digs
to unearth the truth and ensure justice within these hills, hollers and beyond. While the world beyond the Balsams, the high ridges
of the Smokies and the Blue Ridge is changing with great speed, I ask that you slow down a bit and remember where you come from
and the good people that you represent. You are Tuscola High School’s greatest ambassadors. We send you into the world with your
diploma in hand, and with the great hope that you are not only proud to be a Mountaineer, but that you have the courage, resolve, and
strength to show others what it means to be one. Continue to blaze the trail for those who will follow.
In closing, I know this is a time when people question you about your future: Where will you go? What will you do? What is
your plan? These are not simple questions. They require great deliberation and often years to answer. As you ponder these questions,
I offer this simple advice: Be you. Take your time. Be good to others. Enjoy the journey. Take care of our environment. When you
get stressed out, (and you will), stop and pause and remember that you can do this. We believe in you Mounties. Your new diploma
says so.
