You’ll never know if your child is the next Olympian, until they try curling! Please call in advance at 519-733-3056. The Winter Olympic Games hosted in Sochi, Russia are sure to include some of the greatest curlers playing the game this year! These Games will be Jennifer Jones, skip for the Canadian Women’s Team, first appearance as an Olympian. Her teammates include Dawn Askin, Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer. Skip Brad Jacobs for the Canadian Men’s Team will be joined by fellow teammates, Ryan Fry and brothers, Ryan and Ej Harnden. According to www.sochi2014.com, Curling first appeared at the 1924 Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix but only in 2006 was it formally accepted by the International Olympic Committee and played inTurin. Curling was a demonstration sport at the 1932 (Lake Placid), 1988 (Calgary) and 1992 (Lillehammer) Games and has been an official Olympic sport since 1998 (Nagano). Let’s cheer for our Canadian Curlers! Our new hot water heater. Our old water heater was a commercial low efficiency 175,000 BTU 90 gallon A.O. Smith. The bottom had rusted out and the water heater was kaput. Our new one (after looking at many options) is a residential high efficiency power vented 75,000 BTU 75 gallon Rheem. It is currently being financed as a rental unit from Reliance. We are attempting to change the project for the grant commitment we received from the Windsor Essex Development Committee from the roof re-shingling to the water heater. If approved we may buy the water heater. We expect the new unit will satisfy our requirements for hot water. One problem we are currently having is with the booster hot water heater for the dishwasher. We are hoping it simply requires replacement elements which will not be that expensive. We need to have this back on line by the Sweet Hearts. First half Monday Night Men’s championship team. Congrats to Skip Graeme Robson, Vice Les Kovacs, Second Bruce Cooper, and Lead Jason Wingerden. The Robson rink defeated the Carl Young rink in a close battle. Everyone was a winner in the Monday Night Men’s League. Thanks to Sarah for managing the bar (and Amber), thanks to Carl Young for picking up the prizes (Sanford & Son provided meat at cost – thank-you), and thanks to Andrew & Nik Willemsma for helping yours truly (Convenor, John Campbell). The painting that the guys are holding in this photo is actually the Men’s first half trophy. COLTS ZONE PLAYDOWNS IN OUR CLUB!... Be sure to mark your calendars for Feb 15th & 16th... Our Club is hosting OCA Colts Zone 16 playdowns featuring the Rick Law team representing the Curling Club of Kingsville!.... There will soon be a call for volunteers to help run the event and in any event plan to come out and Cheer on our own competitive curlers!
