Why WalkGreen?
How our decking compares
Specifications
Durable & Long Lasting
To Redwood and Cedar
Sizes
WalkGreen™ hardwood decking is strong and can last
over twenty years, giving you years of enjoyment.
Easy to Maintain
The dense and natural properties of WalkGreen™ hardwood makes cleaning easy. Annual cleaning to remove
dirt, debris, and any other build-up can be done with a
brush or broom, soap and water.
Beautiful Appearance
WalkGreen™ hardwood decks look great for years. Leaving your deck unfinished will allow it to gray naturally
and looking great years after it is installed. If you like to
keep the fresh wood look, an annual application of, stain,
or sealant will keep your deck’s rich color from year to
year.
Real Wood
Enjoy a real wood deck that blends in with the quality of
you home. Great Northwest homes are distinct in their
ability to blend in and complement the natural beauty of
the region.
Great Value
Great value comes from a long lasting, easy-to-maintain,
beautiful appearance.
Environmentally Friendly
All WalkGreen™ hardwood is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®), widely recognized as the global
“gold standard” for sustainable forestry practices. FSC®
certification validates responsible forest management
practices that respect the economic value of commerce,
the rights of workers, and the values of local communities.
Most redwood and cedar available today is second-growth
and less weather resistant than old growth. Our hard, rotresistant decking will outlast cedar and redwood by years
or even decades.
To Pressure Treated Wood
Hardwood is naturally resistant to decay, unlike pressure
treated wood, which is injected with chemical insecticides
and fungicides such as copper oxide, chromatic acid, or
arsenic acid.
To Composite Decking
Although hardwood is very resilient, it is a completely natural material that will eventually return to the earth and
build soil for new growth. Composite decking may contain
recycled plastic, but it cannot be recycled further and will
pollute the environment after its useful life is over.
About FSC
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is an independent, non-profit organization that sets standards for
responsible forest management in order to protect forests
for future generations. Over the past 20 years, FSC has
earned a reputation as the most rigorous, credible forest certification system and is the only forest certification
system supported by groups such as WWF, Sierra Club,
Greenpeace, Natural Resources Defense Council, and
National Wildlife Federation.
5/4 x 4” x 7’ – 18’ (net size 1” x 3.5”)
5/4 x 6” x 7’ – 18’ (net size 1” x 5.5”)
WalkGreen™ decking ranges in length from 7 to 18 feet
with odd even lengths on 1 foot increments. These lengths
are inherently functional and maximize yield in the forest.
Clear Grade
Decking planks are clear of defect on three sides. We allow
minor visible defects on the bottom side.
Kiln Dried
Our decking is kiln dried to approximately 15% moisture
content. Drying is important to stabilize wood from undue
twisting and cupping.
End Sealed
All WalkGreen™ is end-sealed to stabilize the wood and
prevent or minimize end-splitting.

Garapa
Cumaru
Garapa (ga-RAH-pah)
Storage and Handling: Keep your decking
covered with a tarp prior to installation to prevent bleaching from the sun. Your hardwood
decking is kiln dried but it should be allowed
to acclimate to your outdoor environment one
to two weeks prior to installation.
Cumaru (COO-ma-roo)
►Spacing
►
Garapa is a South American hardwood with yellow to brown-yellow
appearance. Garapa has a medium
luster, interlocked grain, and a fine
texture that accentuates the wood’s
rich gold and brown tones. Garapa
is rated as durable and resistant to
fungi and insects.
between Planks: Spacing between
planks should be determined by the climate
conditions in the various regions throughout
North America. Some suppliers recommend
as much as 1/4” between planks; we suggest a
minimum of 1/8”.
Cumaru is a tough, dense South
American Hardwood that has an
irregular, somewhat interlocked
grain, with a wavy and coarse texture. Because of its density, it is very
resistant to termites and decay. Cumaru is a medium brown with distinctive tan shades.
Maintaining Your Hardwood
Deck
One of the great benefits of hardwood decking is that it requires minimal maintenance.
Your deck will give you decades of troublefree service even if you do little maintenance.
If you do not seal, stain, or finish your
deck, all exposed areas will weather to an attractive silver-gray color similar to the color
of driftwood within a couple of years. As it
weathers, your deck will tend to develop small,
hairline cracks in the faces of the boards. This
is a natural occurrence and will not negatively
affect the performance or longevity of your
deck.
Fasteners: We suggest using stainless steel screws for the best results and predrilling prior to fastening. Using exterior
wood glue from deck to joists, as well as fastening with SS deck screws, is the best method to
ensure trouble free service.
►Decking
Because our hardwoods are beautiful, some people wish
to preserve their deck’s original appearance before it weathers. This can be achieved by applying any of a variety of finishes or stains intended for outdoor use. The disadvantage
of doing this is that you may find yourself having to renew
the finish periodically in order to maintain a uniform look.
For this reason, we generally recommend that our customers do not finish their decks, but rather allow nature to take
its course.
Installing your Hardwood Deck
The following are suggestions only. Please consult a qualified contractor.
About Natural Wood
Our hardwood decking products are carefully
manufactured and inspected to ensure quality;
however, they are natural wood and are subject
to variations in weight, density, color, grain,
and performance. Wood decking undergoes
dimensional changes as the humidity in the air
alters the moisture content in the wood. Swelling, shrinkage, and other movement of individual pieces are normal.
The Rainforest can be Saved

“People wonder how you can save the rainforest
by logging it. For decades, rainforest have been
cleared for farming, cattle ranching and other
economic reasons. But in more and more
places, forests are being preserved because,
through responsible timber harvesting and
other sustainable uses of forest resources,
they have become more valuable to local
people standing than converted to other uses.”
- Richard Z. Donovan Senior Vice President & Vice
President of Sustainable Forestry, Rainforest Alliance
Most people are aware that rainforests are treasure
troves of biological diversity and provide vital ecosystem services such as oxygen production, carbon
sequestration, and the regulation of regional climate. People are equally aware that rainforests are
in peril: if deforestation rates in the tropics were
to continue unabated, almost half of the vast Amazonian rainforest would be cleared by 2020 and
the world’s tropical rainforests would be wiped out
completely by the end of this century.
Given these facts, it’s understandable that
people are concerned about using
tropical timber; however, leading conservation groups like the
Rainforest Alliance actually advocate responsible forest useprovided that it comes from
well-managed forests that are
certified to the stringent standards of the FSC®. Forests that are
managed to the stringent standards
of the FSC® can help keep primary forests standing.
