December 2015 Fircrest Neighborhood Association Winter Hours in effect for LeRoy Haagen Memorial Community Park Leaves [cont. from pg 1] Residents can also find the coupons in a variety of sites: in the Recycling Refresher newsletter, sent to all households in Clark County; on the City's website at www.cityofvancouver.us/ solidwaste and at Vancouver City Hall and other various City offices. This year’s designated free leaf disposal sites include City Bark, H & H Wood Recyclers, West Van Materials Recovery Center and Triangle Resources. The free leaf disposal program is intended to provide options for Vancouver residents with a lot of trees. Other options include subscribing to Waste Connections of Washington's yard debris collection services at www.wcnorthwest.com or by calling 360-892-5370 or emailing [email protected]. You can even compost leaves at home. Click here to learn how through the regional Green Neighbors Program (www.clarkgreenneighbors.org). From November 2, 2015 to March 13, 2016, gazebos and shelters at LeRoy Haagen Park will be closed each day from 6pm to 6am. The facilities at the park are best used during the daylights hours,” said Julie Hannon, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. “We want to ensure that our visitors have the safest and most enjoyable experience at our parks. As it gets darker earlier in the evening during the winter, gazebo and shelter hours at parks change to reflect that. Come spring, these structures at our parks will be open longer.” Annual Women Build Tea Save the date for the Annual Women Build Tea this holiday season hosted by Evergreen Habitat for Humanity! The tea will be Saturday, December 5th from 11:30 am to 1 pm. The festivities will be held in the beautifully restored Artillery Barracks in Historic Fort Vancouver at 600 East Hatheway, Vancouver, WA. It's the perfect setting to kick off the holiday season and give back at the same time. The guest speaker this year will be Ellie Alexander, local author of the Bakeshop Mysteries. No community will ever have enough firefighters, medics, police, public works and community health workers to fully address a catastrophic disaster. The answer is advance planning and family preparedness. Every family should Build a Kit, Make A Plan and Be Informed. Involve all family members in disaster planning. Set a deadline for completion and make it a priority. Go to www.ready.gov and get started. Make a plan Prepare your family by making an emergency plan. Download the Family Emergency Plan at www.ready.gov, and fill it out. Plan for the care of pets and family members who need help. Learn how to shut off your utilities. Learn the school, workplace and daycare emergency plan. Gather family members and discuss the plan. Establish a meeting place. Practice your plan twice a year. Identify an out-of-area contact for your family.
