We purchased this car in Atlanta GA in 2002. We are the 3rd
owners and we have all of the original papers from the
dealership. Shortly after purchasing the car we bought land in
Genesee. We sold our house and lived in a small rental property
for 14 months. During this time we took the car apart and put it
into storage until we could get our new house and shop built.
During this time a 1965 Dodge Coronet that Dan had been
looking for, for a long time, came up for sale on eBay. We
purchased it and had it shipped to us from Hawaii. A 1965
Dodge Coronet was the first new car that Dan ever bought and it
was the car that we were married in. Next, another 1965 Dodge
came up for sale. Dan wanted to make an exact clone of his
original 1965 Dodge so, these two cars were built before the 56’
Chevy was ever started.
The time finally came when Dan told his son Nick it was time
to get started on the 56’. Dan wanted this car to be one of the
best cars we ever built. The 56’ was taken out of storage and a
frame up restoration was started. We started with the frame.
Dan welded close all the holes that were not needed to give the
frame a smooth look. Also all of the holes in the firewall were
welded close to make it smooth. The body was put on a
rotisserie, stripped of all paint and sand blasted. The body work
was done by Dave Michaelis.
The car was finished in two-tone, Green Tea over Silver Green
Effects at Nagel Auto Body. While the car was being painted
we spent many hours finding and looking at fabric samples we
finally found what we wanted to match the two tone paint
scheme. Riki did the sewing and the seats were completed.
During this time Dan, Nick and Dominic (Grandson) fabricated
and covered the center console, door panels, trunk panels. Dan
installed miles of wiring for the computer and accessories to
work properly. Other features of the car are polished S/S A
arms, coil over springs, rack and pinion steering, 9” Ford rear
end, all brake lines, fuel lines, fuel tank and 2 1/2 exhaust. A
2010 Camaro LS3 motor with 42 miles on it was the donor
motor coupled to a 6L80E 6 speed auto trans with paddle
shifter. Dan added a Whipple Super Charger to give it an
estimated 590 HP. The 1956 Chevy accessories are, A/C, P/B,
P/S, P/W, P/Seats, P/door locks, cruise control, intermittent
wipers, an AM/FM, Ipod, CD, GPS stereo radio.
Last summer the car received 6 “Best of Shows”, including
2013 Wisconsin Dells “Autorama”, Good Guys “Billet Award”
and at this years ISCA, “World of Wheels” show at State Fair
Park, it received 5 outstanding awards.

68 members. He said the count was substantially down from past years. He did not
know if the count was down because it was the same evening as the World of

said that this is something the Board will have to look into.

My Garage @ Hopson Auto Repair
My Garage is scheduled for May 10-at Jerry Kawatski's "Hopson Auto
Repair”. This is sort of a show and tell program. You get a chance to
put your car up on the rack and give other members a chance to see
what the underside of the car looks like. A perfect time to see aspects
of a car which are important when planning to buy a collector car or
plan a repair of your own.
Jerry Kawatski is planning a trip in May on a Friday
evening to Great Lakes Dragway with members and
students from the Waukesha high school tech auto programs. This was an annual event which was not held
last year due to the poor response from the schools. We
now have a member, Tom Garibaldi Jr, who is teaching
autos at Waukesha North who will be working with Jerry
to make this activity happen again. It is a great time to
meet the students and catch up on what is going on in
the schools.

Waukesha Preservation Alliance weekend is May 17. It includes tours
of Waukesha's classic areas and selected homes. Also, this year,
there will be bus tours of the famous Waukesha Springs.
The car gathering will be from 9:30am to 3pm in the parking lot across
Madison Street from Waukesha State Bank and will be focusing on
original cars produced prior to 1955. We will be having the Club fire
truck there. Water, orange juice and donuts will be available.
