Besson Since 1837
In 1837, Gustave-Auguste Besson (1820-1874), an
acoustic science genius, created the Besson brand
in Paris. His new cornet revolutionized the concept
and has marked minds and hearts even in our time.
His instruments became famous in Europe, and he
has been accredited with over fifty inventions.
In 1858, following a long series of lawsuits with
Adolphe Sax, Gustave-Auguste Besson left Paris to
build a factory in London. Over the following years,
Besson continued to manufacture in Paris and London, and also had warehouses for distribution in
Brussels, Charleroi, Madrid and Barcelona. Following
Gustave-Auguste Besson’s death in 1874, the company changed its name, becoming Fontaine-Besson
in 1880 in France, and Besson in England.
At the end of the 19th century, the Besson factory of
London employed 131 workers, producing 100 brass
instruments a week, and no less than 10,000 musical ensembles appeared on their contact lists. In
1925, Besson purchased Quilter, and Wheatstone
& Co. in 1940. In 1948, the Boosey & Hawkes group
(an English music publisher since 1792) acquired
the Besson London brand.
Always on the leading edge in design and manufacture, Besson became the brand of recognition for
euphoniums, cornets, horns, baritones, trombones
and tubas. Extensive research enables the company
to produce the best valve instruments available
today.
The questions you need to answer before buying your instrument:
1• Is this instrument adapted to the way I want to use it (weight, size, ergonomics, etc.)?
2• What are the accessories sold with the instrument (case, mouthpiece, brushes, etc.)?
3• What is the instrument's life expectancy?
5• Do I know where the instrument was made?
Since joining the Buffet Crampon group in 2006,
Besson has restructured and re-launched its production of professional instruments in Europe. The
student instruments continue to be manufactured
in India, under the supervision of specialists
from the Buffet Crampon group. A global leader in
professional-level clarinets, Buffet Crampon applies
all of its technical, acoustic, organizational and
marketing talent, as well as its international distribution network, to the Besson brand.
6• Has the instrument been made using traditional methods for making instruments?
7• Is it possible to get informations from the manufacturer and the distributor if any
problems arise?
All Besson student instruments are manufactured in the Besson India (Glauthi) factory.
The French horns are made in the Lidl factory near Brno in Czech Republic.
The Besson logo guaranties the original Besson spirit.
Besson brass instruments are esteemed by the
most talented musicians all over the world, who
seek above all “the real Besson sound”.
Besson’s spirit of innovation and tradition continues
to exist worldwide.

TUBAS
With the choice of two models, the Besson 1000 Series
euphoniums provide an excellent start to the careers of
aspiring euphonium players. Both models are free
blowing with an easy of tone production and even
response throughout the register. They have a rich,
warm, centred tone and a reliable, fast and quiet valve
action. Coupled with a comfortable playing position for
both embouchure and fingers, the BE1062 and BE1065
euphoniums provide a classic sound even in the hands
of the less experienced player.
Both the Eb (BE1077) and Bb (BE1087) models are free blowing with an
ease of tone production and an even response. The mouthpipe is carefully
positioned to give the optimum playing comfort and the valve technology
produces complete accuracy and reliability. A ligtweight design makes these
tubas exceptionally easy to hold and carry, with their depth and quality of
tone capturing the essence of the legendary Besson sound.

French Horns
The Besson BE601 and BE602 French horns are the perfect fit for any
small or young beginning player. 3/4 in size, these horns eliminate
the common frustrations associated with playing on a full sized French
horn. They are angled correctly to encourage correct embouchure and
hand positioning and they produce an amazingly free, big sound to
rival any full size horn.
The single F horn BE603 is highly recommended by music educators
because of its close overtone series.
Following the success of the 600 Series, the compensating double
horns BE605, BE701and full double BE810 will be of great interest to
those teachers wishing to start young players earlier on a Bb and
F format horn.
