The Architects of Time are universally recognized for
creating models distinguished by their visionary inspiration.
Ebel watchmakers have a proven ability to build on
traditions and are fired by a constant quest for innovation.
Ebel watches are characterized by a commitment to
distinctiveness and quality. This determination is revealed
through a number of unmistakable design features that
enable an Ebel watch to be recognized at first glance.
The predominant impression is one of sleek, flowing lines
and voluptuous curves, free of any sharp edges. Fully
integrated cases and bracelets confer an elegant charm
that enhances the power of the emblematic shapes and
motifs. Authenticity, sensuality and refinement are the visual
keynotes. These are confirmed and enhanced by the soft
caress and incredible comfort of the bracelets, and the

THE VILLA TURQUE

The Villa Turque in La Chaux-de-Fonds was designed by Le
Corbusier who began work on it in 1916, completing the
construction in 1917. The world-renowned Swiss architect
was thus a contemporary of brand founders Eugène and
Alice Lévy and, like them, a native of La Chaux-de-Fonds.
The destinies of their most significant respective legacies
were to become closely entwined through this beautiful
and revolutionary creation. “A work of art and true
architecture,” as Le Corbusier himself liked to describe it,
the Villa Turque is a miracle of ageless perfection and
majestic equilibrium, enshrining a vision of architecture
that now appears more contemporary than ever.
Within this unique construction, the association of rigorous
straight lines and gentle curves enhances its striking
structural purity, accentuated by the groundbreaking use
of materials combining bricks with concrete. Perhaps the
most all-pervasive quality is the way the light floods in from
the south, east and west, bathing the Villa in a magical
luminosity and creating a subtle interplay of shadows and
reflections.

Representing the very essence of the range and depth of
brand know-how, Ebel Caliber 137 called for five years of
development before it emerged from the company
workshops in 1995. This sophisticated and exclusive
automatic chronograph movement is based on a
fascinating principle: instead of “bolting” a chronograph
movement onto an automatic movement, its 360
components are integrated in parallel. This results in a
slender movement able to power the hour and minute
hands, chronograph seconds, date display, as well as 60second, 30-minute and 12-hour counters.
Clearly a genuine architectural achievement, Ebel Caliber
137 is also an impressive technical feat incorporating
innovative technical solutions. The latter include an offcentered reversing device enabling the oscillating weight
to be wound in both directions for enhanced performance.
The superlative aesthetic finish and decoration of the
movement, entirely in keeping with this proud
accomplishment, may be admired through the transparent
sapphire crystal.
As the ultimate guarantee of the excellent performances of
this movement, each Caliber 137 has been submitted to
and duly chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official
Chronometer Testing Institute).

In 2005, celebrating the 10th anniversary of its proprietary
Caliber 137, Ebel launched a newly developed automatic
chronograph movement named Caliber 139.
Inspired by the conviction that architecture is based not
only on aesthetics, but also on a perpetual quest for
superlative technical achievements in the service of
ergonomic functionality; the architects of time have
created a new exclusive manner of displaying
chronograph functions through apertures rather than
counters.
Starting from the fact that regular counters on automatic
chronographs were generally too small for fast and
accurate legibility of the elapsed time, Ebel watch-makers
worked on a new architecture of the chronograph display
functions on the basis of the highly reliable Ebel Caliber 137.
The result of the brand’s watch-making know-how is a 120°
register displaying the chronograph minute hand in an
optimally readable manner compared with regular
chronograph sub-dials.
Consistently with the minute display, the chronograph hour
display has also been revised. Rather than a hand, a disc
graduated from 1 to 12 turns under the dial and precisely
indicates the hour in progress through an aperture. This new
Ebel mechanical movement is naturally chronometercertified by the Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC)
as is the original Ebel Caliber 137.
