Cycling is a great way to explore the Oceanside area, and routes include both wooded trails and scenic oceanview paths. The mild climate also makes year-round biking possible. Parksville Community Park to Rathtrevor Park Easy, suitable for families - approx 10 km round trip. This route is mainly flat with just 2 small hills. Leaving The Beach Club Resort, take the Parksville Beach Boardwalk South towards Parksville Community Park. Bike through the park (this is a good place to stop if there are kids riding along, as there is an incredible playground and a concession stand in the park). Head out the main entrance and turn right onto Corfield Street. Walk or bike up the small hill for ½ block to the traffic lights at the Old Island Highway. Cross on the crosswalk to the South side of the intersection. Take a left on the sidewalk that veers behind the highway, this will take you to Pioneer Crescent. Stay on Pioneer Crescent for approximately 5 blocks until you reach Martindale Rd, (just before the Orange Bridge). After crossing the bridge, venture down the small hill to the road beside the river, and take a left on Plummer Road, (it is a relatively narrow road, but is safe and flat and scenic). Plummer Road will veer right onto Shoreline Drive. At the end of Shoreline Drive you will turn right on Mariner Way. At the end of Mariner Way will be the gates to Rathtrevor Park. Ride straight ahead on the trail until you reach the campground. Relax and enjoy the many trails of the park, as well as a beautiful, rugged West Coast beach that goes out for miles at low tide! The Beach Club Resort to Little Qualicum Cheeseworks and Mooberry Winery intermediate, suitable for adult riders, a longer distance paved ride approx 15 km round trip Take a left out of The Beach Club Resort driveway onto McMillan Road. Travel up a slight hill, cross the crosswalk, continue straight through the lights at the intersection and continue up McMillan to Hirst St. Take a right on Hirst St. and follow up the hill to Pym St. Turn right onto Pym St., pass Ballenas High School, and then take a left onto Humphreys at Knox United Church. Then take your first right onto Clarkson Place. Come into the subdivision, turn left and continue around to the back left side of the subdivision. Go through Baffles onto Wembley Road. Go straight through the stop sign on Wembley Road. Pass the mall and ice arena on your right. Carefully turn left at top of rise onto Lowry’s Rd, (note this road is narrow and no paved shoulder). Take your first left onto Lowry’s Road. Go straight and cross the railroad tracks to Little Qualicum Cheeseworks (Morningstar Farm). Park your bike on the left in the bike area. This is a wonderful local farm offering tours, cheeses and fruit based wines. Rathtrevor Beach to Top Bridge Mountain Bike Park (and on to Englishman River Falls, if you’d like) Advanced, Continue the ride from Rathtrevor Beach on to the Top Bridge Mountain Bike Park, Approx 20-30 kms round trip Follow the “Top Bridge Trail” at Rathtrevor Beach, a 5km path to the bike park. Hook up with the 5km/3mi Top Bridge Trail at the Rathtrevor Beach end of Resort Drive, then follow the route under Highway 19, and onwards to the bike park. To add on to the ride from there, cross the new suspension bridge and ride all the way to Englishman River Provincial Park. Top Bridge Mountain Bike Park is fun for every level of mountain biker. Top Bridge Mountain Bike Park is regarded as one of the best mountain biking facilities in British Columbia. These well-developed trails are moderately difficult and suitable for most levels of riders. Top Bridge was built by the Arrowsmith Mountain Bike Club and offers eight intermediate loops. The “B Trail” is a dual slalom course with jumps and steeper sections. There are also several great swimming spots on the river on a hot summers day.
