Spring Art
Colorful Countryside by M. Smith The simplicity of the countryside, combined with earthen colors make the new works by M. Smith very enticing for home and office. Smith was born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, he arrived in Canada in the late 1980s. This new one is 18x36, museum wrapped. Winding Roads, Paths by JP Courchia The interplay of light and shadows is not by accident in the works by French artist & doctor Jean-Paul Courchia. And the basic constriction of many famous works of art is also not by accident. Jean-Paul Courchia comes to the Westport River Gallery by way of France. The physician-lecturer-artist's oil paintings on canvas are displayed in Marseille in the famous Provencal Gallery Jouvène, which Van Gogh and Cezanne called home for their art work. Her Highness Queen Paola of Belgium and Madame Nobutaka Shinomiya, wife of the Consul of Japan in Marseille, are avid collectors of his work. We now have 10 new oil paintings, ranging from 13x16 to 20x24. Click for two others. Snoopy Boom Shaka Laka by Everhart Tom Everhart is the only artist with full creative rights to the "Peanuts" characters created by Charles M. Schulz. In 1980 Tom graduated from the School of Art and Architecture at Yale. He got a freelance job drawing renderings of Schulz's characters. He began working with "Peanuts" imagery exclusively. In 1980, he was introduced to cartoonist Charles M. Schulz at Schulz's studios in Santa Rosa, Cal. A few weeks prior to their meeting, Everhart, having no education in cartooning, found himself involved in a freelance project that required him to draw and present Peanuts renderings to Schulz's studios. Shown here is one of 3 available signed/numbered & framed lithographs. Each is $1700, about half their market value. Click for others. Beloved Provence by D. Olaf's Rich Tapestry of Colors New art has arrived by Canadian Artist Olaf, who uses color, light, and brushwork to achieve visual harmony. He captures the movement of water, as well as the freshness and clarity of sunlight, which seems to glisten on his surfaces. In describing himself as well as other artists of "representational art," he writes: "Each dab is stimulated by the details that I observe; we see what others miss and then make it compelling." This original is 30x40. Click for others. Poumelin's Blustery Regatta Day French artist Richard Poumelin's art is expressed in his music as an accomplished guitarist. His landscapes, Venetian seascapes, still lifes, and his other paintings are filled with a spiritual exercise...filled with powerful harmonies and magic reality, and sensitive serenity. He remains faithful to the motif, to the object, to the unmistakable poetic elements. His works evoke a feeling, a sense of place, and sometimes the gold paint jumps out against the serene black and white. A silver medallist in 1996 at the Grand Salon International de Peinture, and the grand prize gold medalist in 1997 at the International d'Arts Plastiques Poumelin's work are in a number of significant private and corporate collections. All Poumelin 50% off thru Jan. 15, 2016. Click for others. Gabbert range from the Flower Girl to The Seven Sisters of the Pleiades. The Sisters is a cluster of blue dwarf stars in the Taurus constellation. The Mayans believed this is where the universe began. Today they are named for the seven daughters of the Atlas and Pleione of Greek/Roman mythology. "My mother said I was always building something out of Tinker Toys or cardboard and scotch tape. Each is unique, a limited edition, and cast bronze. "Spring provides no better evidence of life's creativity and playfulness. We humans try to control too much. We fear too much. Life is meant to unfold. There are always new possibilities. Our challenge is to get ourselves and our "plans and goals" out of the way so we can see the possibilities, the better opportunities, before us. I don't believe in destiny. Time is linear.."
