President`s Report
President's Report Happy New Year! I hope that each of you had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a healthy, prosperous and active 2016. I also hope that you had a chance to enjoy some of the many parties and gatherings held at NCC in December. Our staff hosted 22 parties in 18 days and from all accounts a good time was had by all. Thanks to our members for using your Club for your holiday and family get-togethers. We are planning on a busy social schedule in 2016 and will kick it off with our "Fine Dining" experience on Friday, Jan 8th. Make your reservations now. NCC enters 2016 with the most members-almost 400-that we have had in many years and we will be rolling out another membership drive shortly to add more. If you know of any friends or business associates that would enjoy the many benefits of our Club, please let us know and we will reach out to them. We also come into the new year in solid financial shape thanks in large part to the support of our members and the hard work of our Finance Committee. 2016 brings a new Board and new Committee chairs. Julie Hoffman will be the Board member working with the Social Committee which will be chaired by Lori Drake. Vice President Dan Hensley will work with House Committee Chair Nina Fanning on issues regarding staff, operations and our facilities. New Board member Todd Browning will head the Membership Committee and seek to build on our membership growth in 2015. Walker Moody will continue to bring his expertise and experience to the Greens Committee. Michael Whiteside will chair the Finance Committee which just finalized our budget for 2016. Gaston Green will be the Board member in charge of our Tournaments and will be assisted by Tournament Committee Chair Jason Brady. Finally Ansley Kersey will head our Pool/Tennis Committee. Thanks to all of these folks for their service and I would urge any of our members who want to be involved with a particular Committee to contact the Board member or Chair of that Committee or let the NCC office know of your interest. Finally I want to make our Members aware of two decisions recently made by the Board which will impact your monthly bills. First we will be implementing a dues increase of $10/month effective January 1. This is a modest increase but is necessary given rising expenses and the fact that we went many years without any dues increases at NCC-a fact which left us far behind similar clubs and impacts our cash flow. To help lessen the impact on our Members we have also decided that all beverages-alcohol and otherwise-will now apply to your monthly food minimum. Come out and enjoy our new menu offerings and your favorite drink! Here's to a great 2016 at NCC! See you at the Club. Skin Edge A Word from Our Club Controller, Gail Biggs Dear NCC Members, As the year 2015 gives way to 2016, I send my heartfelt wishes for the best year to come for you and your family, as well as Newnan Country Club and its extended family. Gail Biggs NCC Controller A Word from Our Superintendent, Andy Scott What a crazy "Winter". In the 15 plus years working on golf courses, I have never experienced a season quite like this. This really describes 2015 in a nutshell. We started cold, then warm, then cold then rainy, then weeks of no rain. It has been the one of the most challenging years for me. As of December 28, we have received right at 70" of rainfall. Before week’s end, we are expected to receive 2-4 additional inches. In comparison, we received 47.5" last year. Talk about what a difference a year makes! By the way, our annual rainfall average is 51". Not only is rainfall a story, temperatures are out of whack, too. We are 3 days from January and we still have a few green fairways and we still continue to mow grass on the greens. We have come within a few degrees of record highs on many occasions. We are ready for a cold snap to send the entire course into dormancy. It needs it! My crew is working hard (when we can) to make it as great as possible. This weather has slowed us down on completing projects. Thank You for your understanding and cooperation. I look forward to 2016 and another great year at NCC. We have many great projects and ideas for the upcoming season. I hope your 2016 is great. See you on the course! Thank you for the opportunity to serve you this past year, and I am looking forward to providing you with an even better social experience in 2016. Happy New Year to you and yours, Teresa Taylor Looking to 2016 What is your goal for 2016? I like you to meet George, a middle aged man, eagerly anticipating the 2016 golfing season with much hope because he had practiced more and his practicing is showing up in more solid golf shots. His handicap is getting lower and lower and it looks like he may have a handicap low enough to play in the “A” Division of the Club Championship. Wait a minute, what is that noise? Oh no, it’s George’s alarm clock going off, not again. Is getting better going to be just another dream for George this year? The vast majority of golfers relate their golf game improvement to only one thing. 99% of the time, that one thing is what score was shot. Think about it for a moment, when one of your friends approaches you after finishing a round of golf, what question is mostly likely to be asked? You are correct if you answered “What you shoot”? Yes, ultimately, what one shoots is the bottom line, particularly in a golf tournament. There is no room on the score board to show that the winner had five less putts for the tournament than his nearest competitor. Don’t get me wrong, scoring is everything when it comes to winning the tournament. So, what’s wrong with shooting the lowest score? Are you kidding? That’s the name of the game. But, is the winner of the tournament always the person that has hit the most greens or fairways? Not very often. So, how are we going to shoot lower scores? Hit more solid shots and feel that great sensation of the ball melting on the clubface while you watch it fly straight toward your target with your swing in a state of perfect balance. Then it will become easy hit more greens & fairways? When you do miss the green having practiced your short game, shot will be saved and that number at the end of the round will be lower. So, where does one start to improve their golf game? 1. Commitment of time This is the hardest 2. Changing how one thinks This concerns how a proper golf swing functions vs. pre-conceived ideas 3. Properly dividing kinds of practice 80-85% short game 4. Being sure that your equipment is right for you. I will be happy to evaluate your equipment, no obligation; I will let you know if your equipment can be adjusted to fit you or making a change of equipment would be best. As far as cost we match all large box stores pricing with the advantage of hitting off natural turf. 5. My commit to you. A couple times a week throughout the season I will be on the practice tee to help anyone that asks me for help. For those that are currently taking lesson from me this can be a time for a quick check-up to insure you are practicing properly and for those that are yet to have been instructed by me a chance to see if you like what you hear. Hope to see you on the practice tee and don’t forget the putting and chipping greens. Happy New Year, Art Credit Book Update 2016 Great news!
