COMING THIS FALL! Our New Chip-Enabled VISA Credit & Debit Cards LA Financial VISA cardholders will soon be getting a big upgrade in the security of their credit and debit cards, thanks to the addition of a little EMV microchip. The new chip-enabled debit cards are scheduled to arrive in members’ mailboxes in October; the new credit cards, in November.. . in time for safer holiday shopping around town, and greater acceptance if you travel abroad. This fall, LA Financial will be mailing out our new EMV chipenabled VISA debit and VISA credit cards. Providing the latest in fraud protection technology, the new cards will replace your current debit or credit card. Upon receipt of your new card, activate it immediately and destroy your old card for security reasons. This is important for both debit and credit cards. The chipenabled debit card has a whole new card number. The chip-enabled credit card will have the same number, but a new expiration date. So, if you have arranged recurring payments with any merchants, you should contact those merchants and update your card information. (This can usually be done online, quite easily, at the merchant’s website.) The new cards will work any place that accepts VISA. But they offer maximum advantages at chip-enabled terminals, where the chip generates a unique transaction code that safeguards data from being used fraudulently. To make purchases at one of these terminals, follow these simple steps: 1.) Slide the chip end of your card into the terminal with the chip side facing up. 2.) Keep the card in place and follow the prompts on the screen. 3.) Remove the card when directed and take your receipt. In some instances, you may be required to sign for your purchase. Chip-encoded terminals are becoming increasingly widespread nationwide. But if you’re not using a chip-enabled terminal, you can just swipe your card’s magnetic stripe, as you always have before. It’s that simple: another free benefit from your Credit Union.
