Quilt Atlantic 2015 Workshop Descriptions
Friday April 10:
Choose one of three Workshop Options offered 1:30pm – 4:30pm
Design your own baby Quilt, Instructor Linnet Findley
Thinking of a baby quilt? Want to design your own, but where to start?
Linnet will guide you through the process of
•finding inspiration;
•combining traditional piecing with a cute appliqué in the same quilt;
•using drawing paper and tools to create your pattern design;
•using fusible web, fabrics and threads and your sewing machine to bring your
design to life.
We will cover the basics of machine appliqué using satin stitch, and participants
should be able to complete most of a sample block in class.

Penny Rugs, Instructor Donna Veinot
This easy penny rug is called a candle mat and can be used for any purpose you
wish. Once cut, felted wool will not fray. I blanket stitch all around the pennies
and outside edge of the main pieces. It'll be about 6 inches in diameter once
completed, and you'll probably be able to go home with a finished product
depending on how fast you are at embroidery.
Kit fee: $15.00
Materials to bring along: Black Perle Cotton or embroidery floss; Embroidery
needle with an eye big enough for the thread. If you are using floss, you will be
using 3 strands

Cutting it up with Georgina, Instructor Bev Crouse
Bev and the Bunnies at White Point have been busy creating!
Over a snack of carrots, nibbling on grasses, and drawing with EQ7, they’ve
collaborated on a new pattern designed specifically for Quilt Atlantic. Mother
Bunny Georgina has given permission to invite you to stitch up our newest
creation. Unfortunately she says we can’t’ tell you what it is... What a silly thing
to say but….. Georgina has the final word.
We promise it will be fun though!
Hope you can join us 

Felted Tea Cozy, Instructor Karen Miller
The two cup cozy is a practical project that can satisfy the novice and
more advanced and will make a great gift. Once the piece is started no
two will be alike, guaranteed. The kits are designed to offer the student
flexibility in their individual designs. The felted tea cozy kit contains a
variety of wools, from roving to un-carded, hand-dyed; to silk blended
with merino roving, as well as raw natural silk. Using these materials you
will create texture both physically and visually. Once the felting is
completed, you will be using a sewing machine to finish the work. At the
end of the project there will be a machine you can share or bring your
own.
Kit Fee: $20.00.
No Sewing Machine Required.

Sunday April 12:
Choose one of three half day workshop options, 9 – 12noon
Wings & Bugs, Instructor Deb Plestid
For those who love the world of insects, this ½ day workshop will explore
how to make insects and wings. These stand alone bugs are easily added
to your creative quilts. Need an aphid for a lead, a water bug for your
pond, perhaps an ancient mayfly or dragonfly… no fear, with some water
soluble stabilizer, steam-a-seam and regular thread you’ll stitch one or
more bugs and learn this easy technique which can be applied to any small
bit you would want to add to your work. This workshop is suitable for all
quilters.
Kit Fee: $10
Sewing Machine Required
Beginner Hooking, Instructor Jane Steele
Jane Steele studied textile marketing in England, and worked with many
European mills supplying the UK garment industry. Moving to Nova Scotia
in 2010 Jane started to plan a way to put her knowledge and love of
colour, fabric and design into a business. She learned how to hook and
quickly became “hooked”.
In this session, try your hand at a simple starter design from River House
Rug Hooking Studio. Each kit will contain the pattern and wool. The
workshop will illustrate step by step how to begin a project; how to form
the loops; how to hook in straight and curved lines; how to turn corners;
and how to finish.
Each student will experience hooking with cut wool and with wool yarn.
Fast learners may be able to finish hooking in the time, others at home.
Suggestions will be given about end use for the piece – trivet, wall
hanging, framed piece – and how to finish accordingly. Hooks and frames
will be available on loan for the duration of the workshop if required.
Kit Materials: $15
No Sewing Machine required.

Modern Quilts, Presenter Adrienne Klenk
A Modern Quilt? What the heck is a Modern Quilt?
The Modern Quilt Guild movement developed out of the thriving online
community of modern quilters and their desire to start meeting in person.
Adrienne Klenck, president of our Maritime Modern Quilt Guild will share with us
the Modern Quilt Movement here in Atlantic Canada. How and where it started,
what’s happening now, and of course all about who you are, where you meet,
what you sew, etc..
Join us to learn more about this exciting worldwide quilting trend!
