Janet Searls – (757)435‐7480 Roxann Hart – (352)266‐6445 Debbie Holden – (205)305‐9386 The Spotlight Program is proud to be able to make available for purchase many quality items that have been donated by other horse lovers that are truly determined to make a difference. We ask that you take this opportunity to reach into your pockets and participate in this worthy cause by placing a bid on an item that may have caught your fancy. Our two designated charities for this years silent auction is the Arabian Horsemen Distress Fund and the Miracle Children’s’ Network. The Arabian Horsemen’s Distress Fund was established in January of 2005 as the Arabian horsemen’s community rose to help one of their own, Northwestern Arabian horse trainer Ron Copple. Ron was diagnosed in the fall of 2004 with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma, and while his insurance coverage was excellent, the rigors of aggressive treatment along with the shortfall of their insurance to cover all the extenuating expenses left a void. Horsemen from around the country combined efforts, and as the fund began helping the Copple’s and several other community members during 2005, application was made and granted by the IRS for 501c3 status, making all donations completely tax deductible. Governed by a board of five industry‐involved horse people, the fund’s guidelines are configured so as to award the board the maximum ability to respond to a variety of circumstances. Application for assistance is eligible to any current member of the Arabian Horse Association in good standing, and all applications are kept confidential unless an individual releases the board to outreach to the community on their behalf. As of November, 2010, the fund has disbursed over $350,000 to individuals throughout the Arabian horse community, and virtually all of the money donated is earmarked to directly help our community horsemen during times of crisis. In 2011 an Endowment Fund was created for The Arabian Horsemen's Distress Fund by Hennessey Arabians to give long‐term sustainability to this program. Gifts can be made to either the operating fund or the Endowment Fund; visit the website at www.horsemensdistressfund.com for details on how to donate. Georgia College Miracle is a campus‐wide fundraiser that benefits The Children's Hospital in Macon, Ga. In the past eight years, GC Miracle has raised over $100,000 through an annual event called "Dance Marathon." Students sign up to participate and raise a minimum of $50 individually to contribute to the cause. "Dance Marathon" is essentially a 12‐hour celebration with games, dancing, snacks, crafts, and mingling. During this celebration, students also get a chance to meet families and children that have been impacted by The Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network in general. GC Miracle strives to have a presence on campus during the entirety of each school year. "Dance Marathon" is a one‐of‐a‐kind experience that every student should have before graduation.
