The Pradera Press The Pradera Press
The Pradera Press July 2011 4th of July The Club at Pradera 5225 Raintree Drive, Parker, CO 80134 (303)607-5700 Turf Care Corner The summer solstice arrives this year on June 21, the longest day of the year, resulting in 8 hour nights and sixteen hour days. These long warm days allow golfers to play from 6:30 am to nearly 9 pm. While this scenario couldn’t be better for members it can be hard on the golf course. The hot sun beating on the course for sixteen hours results in the turf heating up and drying out. The Pradera watering method is ‘deep and infrequent’ this way the turf is watered with heavy amounts in a cycle in soak manor which pushes the water deep in the profile promoting deep root growth and healthy turf that endures the heat of the summer. To accomplish this we need a large window of time to get the correct amount of water into the soil profile which is one half inch of precipitation. The course is broken into zones just like your home landscape; we water tees and greens one night, fairways and rough the next then bunkers, followed by mounds and any other supplemental watering. The entire process requires a three day rotation unless we get cool days or summer rainfall, in which case we postpone the water until the need arises again. Our longest water cycle is the fairways and rough rotation which takes twelve hours to water all the heads in those areas for ½ of precipitation. With only eight hours of darkness to water in, and sixteen hours of daylight to play golf in the maintenance team strives for as little disruption as possible. Please be patient, there may be times when irrigation during play or supplemental watering during a heat wave are necessary. Thanks for your patience and understanding. H. If you would like to improve your game please contact one of the golf professionals for an individual, semi-private, or group lesson! Weekends are now very busy with t-times and heavy play. PLEASE consolidate your groups to 3 or 4 players. Saturday and Sunday mornings are not the best time to play as a single or a two-some. The golf shop will begin to start pairing small groups together to best utilize our t-sheet to its potential. When the golf course is very busy please keep in mind to keep pace moving. This includes limiting your search for balls to only a minute or two. Always make sure to stay up with the group in front. The rangers will continue to monitor pace. If your group falls behind, please cooperate with staff and fall back into place on the course. Your fellow members would appreciate it! I hope to see you at the Club!
