New Annapolitans News December 2012 www.Annapolitans.org New Annapolitans P.O. Box 5251 Annapolis, MD 21403-0700 410-216-6000 GENERAL MEETING: Wednesday, December 5, 2012 PROGRAM: Backswing Barbershop Quartet WHERE: Unitarian Universalist Church, 333 Dubois Rd., Annapolis WHEN: Social time at 9:30-10 a.m.* Meeting at 10 a.m. followed by the program Optional lunch: The Wild Orchid Cafe, 200 Westgate Circle, Annapolis *Prospective members are invited to check in with the VP-Membership at 9:15 a.m. General meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month except February, July and August. . PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Charlotte Featherstone (410-280-5173) [email protected] Oops. Please accept apologies — and, I’m afraid, plan to pay $25 rather than $15 for the NA February luncheon. Last month I shared the Board’s plan to pay down part of our excess reserves by covering a significant portion of the costs of our February and June 2013 luncheons. After some procedural confusion, we now have determined that doing so would run afoul of our Standing Rule 1. The Board will rethink what to do with the organization’s excess reserves. Stay tuned, but please be patient as we regroup, starting with our November Board meeting. The February luncheon will still be quite the bargain — and quite the elegant affair. It will be held at Loews Annapolis Hotel on February 20 (reservation form in next month’s newsletter), with a theme of “Champagne, Roses and Rosalie.” Who’s Rosalie? Find out next month when we announce some very special early 2013 plans. Be an angel: Please, please bring nonperishable baby items (or a cash/check donation) to the December 5 General Meeting. Our thoughtful Community Outreach members will pass your donations on to our local Food Link Emergency Baby Pantry. This worthwhile charity meets the urgent needs of babies suffering from poverty and family crises. What better way to get into the holiday spirit? See details in the Community Outreach section of this newsletter. We give thanks… It’s our good fortune to have been spared the worst of Hurricane Sandy. Keeps everything in perspective, doesn’t it, even as our hearts go out to our neighbors to the north. Have a happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the December holidays. It’s a short walk from there back to our cars. Contact [email protected]. December 25: No walk on Christmas Day. PEDAL PUSHERS (Fridays from 10 a.m. – noon) Allison Travers (510-220-3534) [email protected] Pedal Pushers will resume riding in the spring. Check the April newsletter for details. PLEIN AIR PAINTING (Tuesdays, 8:15-11:30 a.m.) Jane Ferguson (410-544-3436) [email protected] We are taking some time off due to the cooler weather. RECOLLECTIONS Deke Kidwell (443-949-8182) [email protected] Recollections will not meet in December. Our next meeting is January 28 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. If you have been meaning to write down some of your memories for your family, why not start with us. No one will judge your grammar and you read your work aloud, so spelling doesn’t count! In Recollections we write a one-to-two page essay about a special memory. The topic is chosen by the hostess of the month and we meet to read our writings to the group. If you wish to start the new year by being included in our email list, contact Deke Kidwell: 443-949-8182 or [email protected]. TENNIS (Mondays mornings) Jo Ann Cesari (410-757-5351) [email protected] New Annapolitans Tennis plays on Monday mornings; time and place vary according to the weather, so you must be on the email list in order to keep current with the schedule. Please email your contact information or questions to Jo Ann Cesari. There are no commitments, no levels, no fees, no obligations -- just a fun group of 9 women getting some outdoor exercise on area tennis courts. If Mondays are not ideal for you, you might meet other tennis players who would rather play on another day. Give us a try! WALK & TALK (Daily) Judy Hatton (410-280-1770) (no email) Walk & Talk is a group of women who enjoy walking almost every day in the Westfield Annapolis Shopping Mall. The group often ends the walk with coffee somewhere. If you are interested in joining the group, please call Judy Hatton to learn more. WOMEN ON WATER (WOW) Rebecca Snure (410-919-8617) [email protected] Susan Veccia (410-777-5428) [email protected] Women on Water is a group of savvy sailors who get together for fun day sails, primarily during the week.
