VICTORY FORGE OCTOBER FEST

Road to Victory Military Museum set up displays and a military
style obstacle course for kids. We were busy for 2 days with
kids and adults looking peeking and probing our vehicles. We
kept a good eye on the ones dresses in German outfits. We
had crowds all weekend seams that olive drab goes well with
sauerkraut. We already have an invite to return next year.

Veterans Day parade in Tallahassee Fl
These photo's are from the Tallahassee Parade for
Veterans day. They where submitted by Russel Deese.
Who the members are, I have no Idea because Russ did
not submit any names. From the looks of the photo's, it
seems they had a good time. ( Frank Baltra Editor)

Lady Lake Historical Center
September 27, 2008
As members of the MVPA, we get a lot of requests for static
displays. Most of it is to show support for our troops, and honor
their sacrifice for our freedoms, as best we can, in this modern
politically charged society. When asked, most of us will happily
bring out our vehicles and spend a few hours with fellow friends,
discussing life, the world’s events and of course the vehicles. But
every now and again, we get a chance to learn and be humbled at
the sacrifice others have given for our freedoms.
Such was the day when we provided 10 vehicles to help promote
their new WWII exhibit at the Lady Lake Historical Museum, located
in the old train depot on 441 in Lady Lake. The items on display
were the usual artifacts & memorabilia, each brought home or
mailed home from the war front by the brave soldiers in harm’s way.
Many items had been prized by families, but had lain packed away
for a half century. But now it was time for these items to finally see
the light of day. To finally have a resting place, that showcases the
importance of what these young men, and women had to endure to
protect the freedoms that we all tend to take for granted.
On that day, in the shadow of these wartime exhibits, this was made
apparent. This event, this display of our vehicles was before the
presidential election. And as we always do, we all sat in a circle,
enjoying the time spent with friends. Naturally, the discussion
turned to politics, and the upcoming election. Many of us in our
circle were all of a similar frame of mind, some more vocal than
others, in airing their concerns. (Yours truly included). But a
spectator walking past made a derogatory comment about one of
the viewpoints being expressed.

And that brings me full circle back to the exhibit inside the museum,
lovingly dedicated by families of the brave soldiers of long agofighting for our country. They fought for that freedom- the freedom
to express ourselves in a public gathering, and to express our
dissent as well. They sacrificed, as I know I never could have done.
We are honored and humbled by their sacrifices. Let’s not forget
that’s why we bring out our vehicles in the first place.
