Hill Country Hearing hosted a Community Appreciation event December 2nd through December 6th. Some RSC
members attended including Rudy Capen, Janie Murphy, Al Stevens, and Mitchell Tomasini. All of the guests were
treated to cookies and apple cider. Those in attendance were invited to vote for one of the gingerbread houses that
were made by members of the staff from Hill Country Hearing. The competition was stiff and so all were deemed
winners.

periences and advice. It can be helpful just getting to
talk with others. A support group can help you cope
better and feel less isolated as you make connections
with others facing similar challenges.
When: Third Monday of the Month
Time: 10:00– 11:30 am
Our Executive Director, Joe Granados announced that the recent style show on November 23rd raised over $5,000 for
our center. He also announced that the old center on West San Antonio Street was nearing a sales completion. Next,
an application was made for funding from the Kronkosky Foundation. It’s been a very busy past few weeks for our
staff. We are fortunate to have this talent working on our behalf.
For more information please call: 830-249-2114
Everyone is welcome to attend!
Mr. Granados further acknowledged the tremendous membership growth we are experiencing. On one December
day we received 30 new members alone! When you see a new face, please introduce yourself and make them feel
welcome.
There were no surprises in the Wacky Wednesday Sweater Contest, December 18th as table 7 once more were all
decked out in interesting attire and blinking lights along with a Christmas tablecloth and lights.
Of the 6 decorated doors vying for 1st place in the Décor a Door contest, the winner was door 138 decorated by crafty
crafters, Betty Neal, Mary Alice Payton and Sue McCrary. Congratulations to this team of ladies as they received the
most member votes.
Sadly, we have lost several of our wonderful member friends this month, and we are truly blessed to have known
them.

Yoga classes are starting this month. According to Webster, “Yoga is a philosophy, teaching the suppression of all activity of body, mind and will in order that the ‘self’ may realize its distinction from them and obtain liberation. It is a
system of exercise for attaining bodily and mental control and well-being.” Come join in to discover your inward

Who ‘Dat
How the Days Got Their Names
She’s a Native Texan, pert, a bit saucy and loves to
dance. B_______ W_______ arrived in Boerne a few short
weeks ago, coming from Houston, TX where she lived
most of her adult life. In her younger years she lived in
San Antonio and attended Jefferson High School.
Saturday is the only day of the week that retained its Roman origins in the wake of the English invasions of the
Angles and Saxons. This may have been because there
was no Norse God to roughly correspond to the Roman
God of Time and the Harvest, Saturn. The Anglo-Saxons
simply adapted the Roman “dies saturni”, making it saterdaeg.
B_______ was employed in a hospital administrator department for many years but after injury to her back,
she began working at the local YMCA, first for her own
therapy but lastly assisting Y members for the last 7.5
years.
Besides his ownership of the day of the week, Saturn presided over a Roman festival known as Saturnalia. It was a
celebration of the harvest, but it was also a time when life
was turned on its head. Crimes committed on these days
often were not punished; masters frequently waited on
their servants; and revelry was taken to excess.
Her two Kendall County Resident sons persuaded
B_______ to move to Boerne and into a new apartment
complex nearby. She is still trying to find her way
around our area and seeking new adventures.
Saturday is the seventh day of the week and as such was a
day upon which the Hebrew God commanded people to
rest. Through to our modern age upon which the Hebrew
God commanded his people to rest. Through to our modern age Jews keep Saturday holy as the Sabbath—quite a
contrast to Roman principles.
When you see this new face a B_______ W_______ please
say hello and introduce yourself.
-Snoop
Before the advent of the 5 day work week (which began
to come into vogue in the early 1900’s) Saturday was
much like Friday, in that it was the final workday before
the day of rest. It is interesting to note that before the last
few generations the long work week was standard and
endured without complaint from most workers. In our
own time the 5 day work week is often depicted as long
and difficult.
