The new exhibition pavilion for the Institute of Technology is located centrally within the old part of the university. In an axial relation
to the existing building of the “Carolo-Wilhelmina”, the main access starts across a foot bridge from the stair podium of the old building to the pavilion gallery level. From here a flight of stairs leads to the courtyard level. Further leaf doors on the west façade open up
towards the inner courtyard with trees and integrate the outdoor space during events. Mobile wall segments of four square meters
allow for flexible exhibition concepts with a 280 square meters hanging area. The exhibition walls can be stored in so-called “parking
positions”.
The architectural concept with one gallery level, the reduction to simple materials (fair-faced concrete, steel and glass), story heights
of three meters and floor bases of fifteen meters square make the pavilion appear as a light cube. The double-skin façade from glass
planks with integrated translucent thermal insulation, produces the indirect incidence of light suitable for exhibition purposes. The
building changes its appearance according to the time: during the day is it shimmering and reflecting, at night a shining cube.
