PRESIDENT’S
THOUGHTS
Dear Greater Belen Community,
Wow!! The school year is now back in session! The
Greater Belen Chamber of Commerce is extremely grateful
to State Employee Credit Union for once again sponsoring
our New Educator’s luncheon in August. We appreciate all
the teachers and administrators that were able to join us
that day as we kicked off the 2016-2017 school year.
Have you been utilizing the local businesses for start of school needs? How about if
you potentially need some help with home projects as summer is winding down? Have
you had the opportunity to try some of the delicious restaurants in Valencia County?
We have some very tasty and unique menu sites that are available in our community.
Please visit our website www.belenchamber.com to see our complete membership
directory and keep shopping locally!
Please come and join us for our After Hours Mix & Mingle event on Wednesday,
September 14th at Mitchell Theaters in Los Lunas at 5:30PM. This is an opportunity to
visit with the membership and give feedback on happenings in our community.
Our community has many opportunities for you to come out and be involved. Our Lady
of Belen Fiestas were full of many fun activities, the National Night Out was an
opportunity to meet with our local police departments that keep our communities safe,
the Valencia County Fair with the parade and other activities; and Belen MainStreet has
been working on cleaning up our buildings along downtown Becker street. Please come
out and show your love of your community in these events – it is with all of our
participation that has our community flourish and be successful.
The GBCC is working on a full day of wonderful activities, vendors and bands for our
Rio Abajo Becker Street Festival on September 24. Please come and join us for a full
day of fun – Live bands all day, Al Hurricane, Jr., Keith Sanchez and the Moonthieves,
Kevin Michael Band, Howard Stansell Band and DJ Ragon, poker bike run, Hot Air
Balloon Glow, Dance contents, a huge classic/custom car show, 75-Foot Water Slide,
Wellness Fair, Lots of food and non-food vendors, a 43 inch TV Giveaway to end the
night!
Your Networking Chamber 2016 President,
Carl Gallegos

Greater Belen Chamber of Commerce Office News
To Our Dear and Cherished GBCC Family and Friends!!!
Rhona Baca Espinoza,
Executive Director of Greater
Belen Chamber of Commerce
First of all, thank you for your great support and friendship. The
huge turnout and response at our New Educator’s Luncheon Shake
Rattle and Roll, Our Educators Rock!!! was indicative of this. You
are so appreciated!!! We salute and honor our educators. They
work so hard and mold our future generations. A special thanks to
State Employees Credit Union as our Title Sponsor once again.
The GBCC- sponsored Valencia County Fair Parade was another
indicator of the community’s support. Wow!!! A special thanks to
our judges: Luz Chavez, Honorary Member of GBCC, Dolores Padilla, Pilot Club of Belen and
Rita Stump , President of the Pilot Club of Belen. We honored Valencia County’s First
Responders and Veterans as our Parade Marshal reflecting the theme of this year’s parade:
Honoring our Veterans, First Responders and Police. A Perfect Look took first place for the
Commercial category, BHS Cheerleaders for School Groups, Land of Enchantment Miniature
Horses for Horse Groups and Concerned Veterans for America for Non-Profit!!! Thank you to all
who came out and participated!!! We had close to 50 entrees.
Now to our largest event of the year: Rio Abajo Becker Street Festival. It is always scheduled
for the last Saturday in September and this year’s is on track to be the best ever. We have
added new events and have improved existing ones such as the Classic and Custom Car Show
and added the 75 foot water slide, a Wellness Fair and brought back our Poker Bike Run!!! It all
begins at 10:00am and runs until 9:00 pm. We will be offering a free raffle for a new 43’ Flat
Screen and will be having a Dance Contest for Two Step, Swing, Line Dance and Ranchera!!!
Great prizes for these contests!!! Award winning Black Smuggler’s and Jaramillo Winery and
Fat Sats will be offering their wines and beer selections at a huge Beer and Wine Garden with a
common seating area. Also the Balloon Glow will be going strong at 8:00pm. This year our
entertainment line up will include NM’s own Al Hurricane, Jr., Keith Sanchez and the
Moonthieves, Kevin Michael Band, Howard Stansell Band, DJ Ragon!!!
The best part of Rio Abajo Becker Street Festival is that it is free admission and jam packed
with great events and vendors all day long. Come out and support it. We will continue to
accept vendor applications until the week of the event as well as sponsorships.
The success of these events is imperative to the continued operations of the Chamber. As long
as we are able to be successful in these fundraising efforts, membership dues can remain a
great value. Thank you for all you do.
Call the office if you have any questions or would like for us to send you a Rio Abajo Becker
Street Festival Schedule of Events!!!
Blessings Always,

while training in Albuquerque and he and his wife made a $500.
donation to the scholarship program!)
This brings to a total of 44 scholarships they have awarded in
Tammy's name for a total of $22,000.00.
Sensei Richard and Sensei Cindy presented this year’s to: John Fanta,
Mattea Demick, Gwendolyn Dike, Joshua Demick, Brice Proctor and

Also, they recently submitted a Great

shovel ready plans for revitalizing our 1st

Becker Ave. The grant amount would be
for up to $75,000.00 towards these plans.
This coming September, Belen Mainstreet
