Upcoming Activities
Your Activity Committee has come up with some great trip
ideas for the upcoming months. We hope to plan something without the chance of snow or biting Cold.
Trip to The Outlet Shoppes of
the Bluegrass: We have been
Anita Ennis
offered a shuttle bus to pick
Chairperson
up volunteers at Saint Joseph
Main at 10:00 and return
after 2:30. We will also receive a 2015 VIP Coupon
book. The minimum attendance for this shopping
trip is 15.
Trip to Horseshoe Casino on
Wednesdays. We would
Joyce Fister-Daley
leave from the Walmart on
Co-Chairperson
New Circle Road at 10:15.
The cost is $20 which
includes a $5 gambling
coupon and a $15 food voucher. This makes the
trip FREE! We will leave Horseshoe Casino at 5:00.
No minimum required number of attendees, we
just need to pick a Wednesday.
On March 11th, Studio Players at the Carriage House, 154 W. Bell Court,
will be presenting their dress rehearsal of:
What Would Jesus Pack?
by Ross Carter
Directed by Eric Seale
When a holy war erupts between a gun advocate and an evangelical fundraiser, a U.S. Senator
get caught in the comedic crossfire.
The show is free and starts at 8:00pm. Sign-up sheets will be posted in the Volunteer Offices.
Only 25 seats are available, so sign up early.
22. We love our volunteers because they
wear the “yes face,” which says “I am
here to help and will not leave you”
without uttering a word.
23. We love our volunteers because they
welcome patients entering critical
units or surgical departments, where
the “unknown” looms around every
corner.

Lexington News Brief
Helen O. Hamilton (right) was recognized at the Saint Joseph
Foundation’s STARS event for the 2014 Outstanding
Community Volunteer. Helen was raised with the teaching by
her mother that, “You must give back, expecting nothing in
return to the community you live in.”
Helen found
“that place
to give back”
at Saint Joseph Hospital where she has
volunteered and recently celebrated 40 years of
service. Helen created the Patient Representative
program in 1974 and continues to lead the
program. Helen has donated funds for the
administrative conference center as well as for the
upcoming launch of communication screens to
enhance employee communication. We are so
blessed to have Helen as part of our team!
Changes Coming Soon at SJH
The SJH Patient Representatives (in the
green jackets) got together to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary
Celebration.
Saint Joseph Hospital will be adding and
expanding nursing units very soon. Here is what
we are going to have very shortly:
• The sixth floor will become the Ortho and Spine
Center, with a satellite Physical Therapy
department. It will open about February 16,
2015. (This unit used to be located in 5B.)
• The fifth floor will have a Neuro (Stroke) ICU
unit built where 5B is currently. It will open about
July 1. The 5th floor will then be entirely
dedicated to stroke
patients.
Dear SJH Volunteers,
Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness & your kindness. The Sarah
Stedy you guys purchased & gave to
us really will lighten our load, it will
truly make a difference for all our
patients. You all are wonderful and
we appreciate what you do for us.
We mentioned this need only once,
yet you did not forget our request.
Thank you all so very much. Your
kindness & generosity is truly appreciated!

London News Brief
Breakfast With Santa!
These adorable girls participated in the SJL
“Breakfast With Santa” event. This is a
Volunteer Services facilitated event for children
and grandchildren of employees. Children must
by 10 years old or under. Santa and Mrs.
Clause met and were photographed with 110
children on December 6, 2014.
Instead of standing around waiting for their
photos to print, families went into the workshop
and the children made gifts for their family
members.
Needless to say, this will be done again this
year!
The volunteers served drinks (cafeteria staff
served the food), cleaned tables, printed and
assembled photos and cards, and even
provided the ever popular elves (in full
costume).
For the first time ever there was a Santa’s
Workshop, coordinated and staffed by
employees. This was a huge success!!!
SJL Noggineers Keeping Babies’ Heads Warm
Fortunately for them, the SJL Noggineers had
been busy knitting/crocheting hats to keep their
little heads warm. These volunteers, who so
lovingly share their talents, offer a visible
example of the mission of compassion that
KentuckyOne Health strives to present to the
communities in which they serve.
What joy the nurses get when they can give these
babies something handmade just for them. The
parents are touched, too, when they receive
these gifts for it brings a little special touch to
their happiness found in their new baby.
It was a cold weekend in December when the
labor hall at Saint Joseph London started
bursting at the seam! This picture shows 16 of
the 17 babies that were born that weekend,
while anoter baby was on it’s way to join them!
Thank you, SJL Noggineers, for all you do!
Let’s get the word out! Volunteers make all these things happen! Tell your
friends how wonderful it is to serve others and invite them to join us! We
need their help!

Noggineers & Crafters
Cuddler Dolls: The word had gotten out about
how crafty you are! Now your services have
been requested! The managersof NICU has
changed the design requirements for the
Cuddler dolls needed for the babies born
addicted to drugs.
All she’d like to have is the shape of the doll cut
out from fleece fabric. The shape would be like
a bear without the ears. Please do not put any
Pocket Prayer Quilts: The

you. You can then deliver the finished squares
to your Volunteer Office. Please be sure to
include your name and how many hours it took
you to make them.
Pocket Prayer Quilts can be made in quilt
patterns or, if you prefer, you can simply stitch
two pieces of fabric together. Make sure the
edges of the square are turned to the inside
before stitching.
Place a wooden heart inside between the two
pieces of fabric.
Tie a small piece of ribbon or yarn on to the quilt
card.
*You can pick these up in the Saint Joseph
Hospital Volunteer Office, One Saint Joseph
Drive, Lexington, KY; or you can call our office at
Hand stitch or machine stitch the square closed,
stitching in the ribbon or yarn as you go.
