HOW TO USE THE RECORD REPORT
All singing calls are checked and rated by our reviewer
and by dancers who dance to each recording . Recording quality, instrumentation, clarity of commands, presentation, body mechanics, flow of dance and choreography are all considered. The rating is given on an
overall consensus although an outstanding or a detracting feature in one or more points may contribute to the
final rating. The tempo, key and range - high and low are includ~ for each singing call, while the key and
tempo are Included for hoedowns. Whether you individually agree with the review is not as important as it is for
you to be able to count on the consistency of the reviewer's comments. Comparing these with your own
viewpoint will allow you to determine which records are
most suitable for your own use. Star ratings range from
to
or below average to outstanding. A
synopsis of each singinlil call is included while selected
records are reproduced In their entirety in the Workshop
section of the same issue.

THE WINE REGIONS
I
In addition to the wineries close to Adie/aide,
there are another 100 or so wineries within an
easy day return trip from Adelaide. Most famous
of all Australian wine regions is the Barossa
Valley. Gennan heritage is evident everywhere.
From the foods and the festivals to the buildings,
arts and crafts.
The Valley's wines are world famous. You
available at Mannum and Murray
Bridge for weekend retreats
or longer.
You can take day cruises on
t he Murray or if time permits
book a cabin on the luxury
cruise ship "Proud Mary" or the
large paddlewheeler "Murray
River Queen".
The Big River has so much
to offer if you wish to cruise, sail, _.I'":
water ski or fish within easy
reach of Adelaide.
FURTHER AFIELD
can enjoy crisp whites,
full bodied reds, ports,
sherries and sparkling
wines which represent
one quarter of Australia's
total wine production.
Every two years the
wine, food and German
heritage come together at the famous Barossa
Vintage Festival.
Just south of Adelaide, you can take a
scenic drive to the Southern Vales wine region
which comprises more than 40 boutique wineries.
They have acquired a reputation for fine quality
and a broad selection of wine styles.
Or you could go north to Clare and discover
the home of some very well known wines and
others you may never have heard of before.
Th the west of Adelaide, there's the
tranquil seaside atmosphere of Yorke Peninsula
which contrasts with the wild west coast of the
Eyre Peninsula
The Sout h E ast is full of history and
intrigoe. Th the nort h discover the Flinders
Ranges and the opal fields of Coober Pedy.
Adelaide is also the ideal gateway to Alice
Springs and Ayers Rock.

Centennial Hall is the only venue in South Australia. c urrently
lar ge enough to stage a National Co nve ntion . The very high hiring
cost is therefore r e fle cted in t he registration fee. As t he hall
is so cent r ally situated, tran s port costs are minimal, i.e. just ove r
$2.00 per head. Transport to the venue from official pick-up points,
and return , is included in the registration . Please no t e it is not
nece ssary to be staying at the Mot el o r Ca ravan park, which is t he
official pi c k-up point . Eve ry registrant is entitled to avail
themsel f of transport , whi ch will be available for each session of the
Convention proper, i.e. Friday to Sunday.
39 To p calle r s fr om allover Australia plus 2 each from New Zealand
and Japan, and Wade Driver fr om Texa s , USA will add up to a weekend
of unpa ralleled enjoyment.
Inc identa lly , all of Wade's expenses are being met by a grant from the
South Australia Jubilee 150 Board .
The Round Dancers haven ' t been for go tten, 16 Australian and 2
New Zeala nd Cuers , including J ohn Stallard, have been programmed.
There will a l so be Contra and Clogging sessi ons , plus workshops and
the usual meetings.
There is no late registration fee for dancing, t here is still time,
but we must have final number s for meals 2 week s before the bi g day.
See you in Ad e laide.

It is the intention of the National
Committee that South
Australian dancers should be able to dance as much as possible
at the convention.
For this reason, tea, coffee, creche and
cleaning will be contracted out.
There are however some very
important duties which, as host state, are necessary for South
Australians to perform.
If you are able to help in any way with the following will you
please complete and return to a member of the committee I, or
post to GPO box 1588, Adelaide, 5001.
Jan Woodget,
Thank you in anticipation.
